General Motors class 071, 084 at the helm of the 10.05 hrs Ballina to Dublin Port IWT freight arriving into the North Wall.
Today, along with the various containers is General Motors class 201, 228 which had failed & was being returned to the Irish Rail works at Inchicore for repair.
A nice treat to get a double header.

To the right, in battleship grey, the 071 class from the late 1970's & still going strong on various frieght duties up & down the country, represented above by 076.
To the left, Irish Rail 201 class, operating since the mid 1990's, found on both passenger & freight services, 232 seen above in standard Irish Rail livery.

At the rear having just passed through Connolly Station, Dublin city centre on the way to Grand Canal Dock.

Still factory fresh having just gone into service earlier in the week, the wide gangway between two carriages creates a great sense of space & openess, its London without that "underground " feeling.
The new Elizabeth Line linking Reading / London Heathrow in the west with Paddington & then out east to Shenfield branded the Elizabeth line in honour of Queen Elizabeth II who opened the line on 17 May 2022 during her Platinum Jubilee.
Using British Rail Class 345 Aventra with 7 or 9 carriages per set, constructed at Bombardier's Derby Litchurch Lane Works
Features include open gangway throught the entire set, with no doors between carriages.
Trains have a mix of longitudinal and transverse seating max speed 90 mph (145 km/h), with free Wi-Fi and 4G available, as well as being fully accessible for wheelchair users
There are no toilets onboard nor any USB sockets.

Northern Ireland Railways General Motors class 111, 8112, makes its epic trip down from York Road depot to Dublin Connolly, seen above passing Clontarf Road Dart Station.
Northern Ireland Railways are attending the upcoming CIE Inchicore open day on Saturday 7th May 2022, celebrating the Iarnród Éireann Inchicore 175th Anniversary.
NIR are also sending down a modern 3 car CAF set.
