"Allow beauty to shatter you regularly.
The loveliest people are the ones who have been burnt and broken and torn at the seams, yet still send their open hearts into the world to mend with love again and again and again.
You must allow yourself to feel your life while you're in it."

there's no simple
explanation
for anything important
any of us do
and, yeah, the human
consists in
the necessity
of living with
the consequences
under pressure
under pressure
It's like I'm drowning at sea
Hoping that you reach for me
I know you're there, but I can't see
'Cause I'm so drunk off tragic endings
I'm dying to breathe
And all you do is strangle me
Such a beautiful relief
'Cause I'm so drunk off tragic endings
Now I'm the one thing you couldn't hate more
But you're the one thing that I would die for

The tragic remains of the Mary Stanford lifeboat house, near Rye. From Wikipedia:
On 15 November 1928 the Mary Stanford capsized, drowning the entire 17-man crew. The lifeboat was launched in a south-west gale with heavy rain squalls and heavy seas to the vessel Alice of Riga. News was received that the crew of the Alice had been rescued by another vessel and the recall signal was fired three times. Apparently, the lifeboat crew had not seen it. As the lifeboat finally came back into harbour she was seen to capsize and the whole of the crew perished
After the tragedy the lifeboat house was never used again. It stands abandoned as you see it in the photograph.
A little tragic love story played out that afternoon, when the heron caught two breeding dragonflies in flight.

The spectacular Boldt Castel is a testament to the tragic love story that began in the late 19th century between the millionaire George C. Boldt, a prominent hotelier and proprietor of the famous Waldorf Asteria Hotel in New York, and Louise Augusta Kehrer known for her grace and beauty. She was the light of George’s life, and he credited her for much of his success. The dream and grander of the Rhineland-style of Boldt Castle began in 1900 in Alexandria Bay, on picturesque Heart Island, nestled in the calm waters of the St. Lawrence River in the Thousand Islands area of New York State.
It was to be a gift to Louise, a symbol of his undying love and devotion. George spared no expenses with the finest architectural details of the six story, 120 luxurious room castle, complete with tunnels, Italian gardens, playhouse and dove-cote. However, the love story took a sorrowful turn in 1904 when Louise tragically died due to heart failure at age 42. Her sudden death left George devastated and he immediately stopped the project; he never returned to the island. The fairytale castle was abandoned for 73 years. In 1977, the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority acquired the property and started important restoration efforts. Today, it is a major tourist attraction for visitors from around the world. Their love, though marked by sadness, continues to resonate through the halls and towers of Boldt Castle, capturing the hearts of all who visit.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

Vintage streetcar 1010 makes its way along Market Street on a dismal winter day in San Francisco. The steam, for the record, was rising from a network of underground heating pipes beneath the city streets ... and had nothing to do with Castro and cigar smoke :) Thanks for viewing! Dream a little steam and have a nice trip :)

On November 7, 1971 WP 920-D was involved in a tragic accident on the Highline at Westwood. Due to apparent tampering of the siding switch which resulted in a North train side swiping a South train which was in the siding. The resulting collision toppled the WP 920-D and trailing locomotives onto their sides while derailing the opposing trains locomotives. Two crew men lost their lives in the accident, and three others were severely injured.
WP 920-D is seen post recovery sitting on the Stockton roundhouse whiskers. The 920-D, with it's large steam era snow plow, will be trade in fodder for new GE U30Bs, and also solving the question I had to the fates of the remaining large steam era plows adapted for use on the first generation EMDs.
I would like to thank long time family friend, Frank Brehm, for helping me identify this locomotive and adding some detail to the incident. You can check out Frank's extensive encyclopedia of WP information on his website at: wplives.com/

21st September 2014 - English Electric Canberra PR9 XH134 of the Mid Air Squadron with a nice topside pass at Southport Airshow.
The 'English Electric' Canberra was sold to air forces all over the world and a total 1,347 were built. During its first ten years of service with the RAF, the Canberra broke nineteen flight records and three altitude records including winning the London to New Zealand Air Race in 1953 with a world speed record and the first jet flight over the North Pole in 1954.
The Canberra is believed to be the world’s longest serving bomber and most recently provided support during conflicts in the Balkans and Middle East. And, because of its ability to fly at nearly 60,000 ft., it was also used for clandestine photo reconnaissance work during the Cold War. The aircraft retired from active duty in 2006.
It had been fully restored with complete airworthiness certification, experienced engineering and maintenance support – and highly qualified senior RAF pilots - Canberra XH134 was the only air-worthy Canberra of its type in the world.

Sadly, after the tragic events at Shoreham this classic type of aircraft has found it harder and harder to find the increased finances involved to keep up with the now tightened CAA airworthiness certifications and associated insurances and many by 2018 have already been sold and exported to other more sympathetic countries..
Event was 01.28.2023

well, what's the worst thing that can happen to a photographer? My camera died! Apparently moisture got in while I was taking those wonderful winter shots. I'm kicking myself. I should have been more careful! All I can do is put it in a bag with silicone salt gel packets for a week and hope it dries out! I feel lost without it. I've been wanting to get a "full frame camera" for awhile which is a huge expense, but now it may be that I will have to buy a new camera if my rebel t4i is beyond help! Time for a Guinness.
I don't know how this little fellow met his end ~ maybe the power lines by the orchard. I found him on his back in the dust. I brought him home for a burial in my garden.
The ruins of St. John's Episcopal Church in the town of Glen Allan, Washington County, Mississippi, USA. This church was built in the 1850s using slave labor. During the American Civil War, locals removed the stained glass windows to use the lead for bullets. The structure was wrecked by a tornado in 1904, and the ruins now sit among graves of the Greenfield Cemetery. My dear little dog Rooney passed away in January - a tragic loss for me as he has been my constant companion for the past 12 years. I miss him terribly but I don't know if I will have another at some point.
