Day 227.....traded in

On black

EXPLORED #41 8/15/09

trade-in on used car lot of McDavid Honda priced at $79,000

Most of you know how I first came across Barbie as a very young child at my Mum’s work Christmas party, where they had a whole table full of old leftover stock ‘Trade-in TNTs’ from the Mattel headquarters down the road, that they gave away to the daughters of staff, while I got a stupid TV board game. It was the only time in my life where I really wished that I was a girl! LOL I think that also started my life-long Barbie obsession. And even though I have amassed quite a few lovely TNTs for my collection, I never had one of those ‘Trade-In’ gals…. until now. And what’s more, she is in my favourite hair colour, that deep, rich ‘Chocolate Bon-Bon!’ She came in her ‘baggie’ and her hair cello was still on, (you can just make it out in the photo with her OSS and box, lying near her feet,) so she was virtually unplayed with … her hair and ribbon bow are perfect! (Though I had to remove that cello as it was starting to actually stick to the back of her hair!!!) She’s not totally minty perfect as parts of her have faded somewhat , and she was missing her wrist tag, but it was SO great to finally fulfil a childhood longing… only took 45+ years! :P I decided to dress her in my favourite ‘Pajama Pow’ which looks so great with that hair bow! (I have the original yellow flats but changed it up with some orange bowed flats… the groovy pink belt is Becky’s!)

Now, you probably all also know about Mattel coming up with that genius trade-in program to launch their new Twist ‘N Turn Barbie in 1967, where one could trade in their old Barbie doll for this gal for less than half price... It was a massive success. (Please enjoy the TV ad that launched this gal and that trade-in program, starring none other than Maureen McCormick, ‘Marcia Brady’ from the Brady Bunch!) www.youtube.com/watch?v=TB0va0jaFYE

Yakima, Washington - July 6, 2021: Sunset falls on a Ford car and truck dealership in the summer

I recently got the trade-in version of Dusty from Kenner, (Isn’t her box groovy? She is wearing that funky polka-dotted ‘Trendsetter’ pants set here!) She would have probably been a later issue as the trade-in box date says 1976 instead of 1975 for the other original Dusty, who is displaying the complete Tennis sport set and Skye, who is wearing a very 70’s ‘Trendsetter’ fashion I recently bought NRFB. There are lots of differences between the two Dustys so I thought I would photograph them together for comparison. The trade-in version has lighter, ‘peaches & cream’ pink skin than the original Dusty’s deep tan and her makeup is also much pinker, especially her lips. She also doesn’t have the original’s freckles. Her straight, rubbery, non-rotational arms are different to the original’s rotational, bendable arms and rotational wrists, (the hands on the original Dusty also have a ‘grip’ feature so she can hold her tennis racket as you see here, and just like Skye, one arm is ‘spring-loaded’ as is her waist so she can really ‘hit’ that tennis ball!) The trade-in version also has a head that just moves from side to side, unlike the rotational head of the original. Her hair is also much longer than the original’s very 70’s ‘shag’ do, and her head is much bigger, as the original Dusty and Skye are usually now found with heads that have shrunken somewhat, (but I tend to think the original Dusty’s head size now suits her body better, anyway!) You can see Dusty and Skye wearing these fashions in the vintage TV ad on them here! www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciJebPa3ZLA

Seaboard Coast Line Uceta Yards with ALCO RS-3 locomotive 1130. along with numerous others lined up for disposition in Tampa, Florida, 12-24-1974, Fred Clark, Jr. These locomotives may either be condemned, sold, traded in, or scrapped, but I do not know the final outcome. For the most part the ALCO RS-3 locomotives have been replaced by the GE U18B locomotives.

Mr Fox and Mrs PB have been getting a bit old and crusty, so we've replaced them with newer models. We hope you don't mind.

Seaboard Coast Line Uceta Yards locomotive storage area tracks with engines for disposition to either be condemned, sold, traded in or scrapped including numerous ALCO RS-3 locomotives along with others at Tampa, Florida, 12-24-1974, Fred Clark, Jr. In this group of locomotives there is an EMD GP7 and in the middle of the group on the second track there is a RS-3 wearing the SAL paint scheme. Most of the ALCO locomotives came from the SAL. perhaps all. Originally there were three lines of locomotives going through the disposition process which also included some ALCO switchers. If you notice the track nearest the camera it has a special section of concrete ties that are undergoing a test process.

Sorry Wrong Numbers™: The Way Apple Pricing & Trade-In Offers Work.... - IMRAN™

In full disclosure, I am a MacUser since 1984, and (mostly) love (most of) my Apple products. My day job is with Microsoft. But this tongue in cheek comment in the meme is based on reality. Apple did a good thing when it started offering trade-in offers to switch to newer model iPhones or even Apple Watch devices.

Then some beancounter just couldn't help it. They decided to find a way to screw loyal customers who had paid massive full prices for top of the line models with basically peanuts values on trade-in.

That is what made me comment that when Apple's next super-duper-I-don't-even-try-price-it maxed out Mac Pro comes out it may add up to $60,000 but a week later the beancounters there would maybe offer $60 in trade-in value for those. One hopes they learnt some embarrassing lessons from that whole recent episode and it does not happen this way.

Not much was happening when I arrived at the crossing so the first thing I did was check out the Southern units I’d seen from I55 while driving to Glenn yard. I was hoping for brand new GP50’s fresh from nearby EMD, but it turned out to be trade in GP7’s headed for Pielet Brothers to be parted out and then scrapped. Maybe this was a better catch, after all in a few days these units would be gone forever!

Y, oh Y? Don't know what it was about Alexander Y Type bodywork that caused even me to excuse the fact that there might be a lightweight chassis hidden underneath... but this was often the case. If you had to run a Ford (or a Bedford) on bus service work, then the Alexander product was the best way of disguising your choice!

During the early 1990's the Knotty business expanded to take in outside work which necessitated another piece of yard across the road from the principal facility still used by RBW. Chief amongst the customers was a fellow Flickrite's bus dealing business which is how this Ex Alexander Northern Ford R1014 USO 161S came to be with us. My memory is a touch sparse when it comes to this era, as so many things came and went. I seem to recall that this bus had been traded in by Express Motors of Hulland Ward (Nr Ashbourne) Derbyshire in return for another ex LT Bristol LH. Shortly afterwards the Express business was acquired by Stoke on Trent based operation D&G on their perpetual expansion trail.

I had my mobile phone (a Samsung J5(6)) since 2016 and decided to take the plunge into a quality camera phone with the Samsung S23 Ultra. With my old phone's mediocre camera I was hoping for great things from the new one, and I have not been disappointed! I traded in my old one (fully working but with a cracked screen) and used a discount code to get £300 off. My Canon R5 and Sony RX10m4 are still to the fore, of course, but this is great for days out and having a good camera available at all times.

Seen in Sweden less than 1km from Neo-MAN Helsingborg where this Copenhagen bus was the 67th of 70 1997-1999 LPG DABs traded in for new CNG MANs. All were scrapped 2 years later although one was kept alive in 2011 as a demonstrator there was zero interest in 10-12yo LPG buses.

Okay - I acquired a new camera and haven't had a chance until today to get outside with it. In fact, after being outside I'm pleased but need to read the manual. Actually, I'm very pleased. This is SOOC other than a crop. Now that said, I love moon shots but it's way too hot to go bird hunting - I tried and all I can think about is how dumb that was.

Still a wet blanket on the parade. This can last moments or days. Then I have to kick myself around a bit before I'm back to being me. One thing for sure, if the weather weren't so hot I'd be me with that camera out bird hunting but I won't shoot them with a Canon now.

I never hide my camera or exif details. It's a Sony SLT-A65V that uses mirrorless technology. I've been thinking about this camera since EOY 2011 and decided since I'm retiring EOY 2012 that if I wanted it I should get it now. Took my old Sony as a tradein and then changed my mind since I have two granddaughters who like cameras too. I figured I would need to upgrade my lens but probably not. Sony will use an old Minolta lens so you'd better believe I'll be checking pawn shops. Such an easy camera to use! Manual just begs to be the only mode on this one.

From a distance the units looked like they were in great shape, but up close you could see the years. All three were missing the doors over the generator area, I have no idea what that was about. Two of the three still had their builder’s plates but I didn’t even consider “saving” them; that would be pushing things a bit!

New to Wallace Arnold, Leeds, SWW 134R is a Leyland Leopard PSU3E/4R with Duple Dominant II C53F coachwork.

It later passed to Tay Valley (Cosgrove), Dundee and was used on WA feeders along with other work.

It is seen here on the premises of SMT (dealer), Glasgow on 6th March, 1985 after being traded-in for a new Wright Contour bodied Bedford YNT.

The only lens I kept from my Nikkor collection was the 18mm 3.5 AI-S, love it on my FE.

A very bittersweet photo. this is my daughter's former car. It was purchased for her to use for transportation after she learned to drive. Requirements were simple if you can hook up the seatbelt, get it started and in gear...and *BACK IT OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY* The most daunting task mentioneed. (I only had to get it off the wall once!) It wound up on a salvage title...oh yes, she and her sister were driving to school when one of her classmates(late for school and intent on having werck number 7 of her young driving career.) pulled around a dump truck pulling a backhoe and STOPPED at a stop sign. Fortunatel the daughter had been to my defensive driving school and got almost off the road to manage a sideswipe not a collision. The girls were safem not the car. It was taken to the body shop and the insurance company totaled it. BUT...daughter could not part with it!!! SO...GOD(Good Ole' DAD) bought it back and had it repairedIt sorta survived college and a year on her own before the engine check lights for the tranny started. I went to the car dealer with her for another test drive. She bought the replacement, BUT wouldn't part with this one. SO...the dealer asked of its disposition...Tradein...Nope sell...Nope...consignment...NOPE... then what looking at dad...with my straightest face possible, I told him that I was going to cute the roof, hood and trunk off and turn it into a planter!!! Untimately I was INFORMED that I would continue to drive it till it dropped, don't want anyone else to drive *HER* car! s... I added a few extra years to its life by working on the tranny, but it was tired and would eventually quit again. It did not take the car long to figure out that the daughter drive nicer than I did...it would do 90 when asked and the tires squeeled well on the on and off ramps(nothing worse than having your new little sporty honda/nissan/acura.etc cars fanny kicked by a gray haired old guy in a beat up saturn on an on ramp!). Anyway the tranny was on its last legs so while selling one of my expired helmets on Craigslist the guy who bought it thought some of the cars in my driveway worthy of the demolition derby. We agreed on this one! Several caveats...it will carry my daughter's nickname for it on the car, it will have a pig snout and tail. Oh joy!! I have been offered the opportunity to prebend it and she the opportunity to ride the parade lap to get to the arena. It is supposed to be in a you tube video of the event at the raleigh fairgrounds on Friday 10/19 stay tuned for the update!

another old renault at lakesde tradein or mot failure ?

1973 - 1986.

Here's the trusty Corrado waiting to be appraised for trade-in, among the new Beetles at Dirito Bros. I dream about my 914s handling, this was more civilized, and a whole lot faster! More like a real car. Head-turning beauty, wicked horsepower seats that didn't fatigue even after a 4 or 5 hour drive. (Bay area to Chico, one-way, or Bay area to Castle Air Museum, and back, same day.)

We bought all our cars from Harold Shively (Niles, OH). So did my grandfather. Dad knew him from church (I still see him and his sons and grandchildren and great-grandchildren) when I go home) and he said Harold didn't screw around like most car dealers -- he just gave you his best price right at the start; none of the "I think I can convince my sales manager to give you this price if you buy it right now" mickey-mouse.
