I was thrilled to find this rusty-patched bumble bee today while doing a bumble bee survey on the newest property purchased by Winneshiek County Conservation. OK, I was specifically searching for rusty-patched bumble bees since finding them here increases the odds for federal funding to enhance and hopefully enlarge the rare oak savanna habitat here in order to help protect this critically endangered bumble bee species and try to save it from extinction. Notice the distinctive rusty-orange patch at the base of abdominal segment 2 on this VIP bee.

Dins el New College d'Oxford, un dels més antics constituents de la universitat, tot i el seu nom, hi ha un element clarament medieval. Es tracta d'aquest pati gotic, clarament un claustre, si d'un monestir es tractés. De fet, indica l'origen eminentment eclesiastic de l'educació superior universitaria a l'edat mitjana.
Ah, i aquest claustre també es conegut per ser escenari de les pel·licules de Harry Potter, en especial a El Calze de Foc.

Within Oxford's New College, one of the oldest constituents of the university, despite its name, there is a distinctly medieval element. It is this Gothic courtyard, clearly a cloister, if it were a monastery. In fact, it indicates the eminently ecclesiastical origin of higher university education in the Middle Ages.
Oh, and this cloister is also known for being the location for the Harry Potter films, especially the Goblet of Fire
Glastonbury Abbey was a monastery in Glastonbury, Somerset, England. Its ruins, a grade I listed building and scheduled ancient monument, are open as a visitor attraction.
The abbey was founded in the 7th century and enlarged in the 10th. It was destroyed by a major fire in 1184 but subsequently rebuilt and by the 14th century was one of the richest and most powerful monasteries in England. The abbey controlled large tracts of surrounding land and was instrumental in major drainage projects on the Somerset Levels. The abbey was suppressed during the Dissolution of the Monasteries under King Henry VIII of England. The last abbot, Richard Whiting (Whyting), was hanged, drawn and quartered as a traitor on Glastonbury Tor in 1539.

Not a photo from today as it was rainy and cloudy all day. Heidi is in a bad mood, but the rain is very welcome. Spring has been too dry and warm here.
Anyway, this flower is called bugle (Ajuga reptans) and according to Wikipedia it "has been used in traditional Austrian medicine internally as a tea for the treatment of disorders related to the respiratory tract." I'm glad I decided to read a bit more before stocking up on Ajuga reptans. According to German Wikipedia it's only good for diarrhea, and given the big difference in symptoms I stopped looking further into it 😄
Урочище Ештыкель находится на юго-востоке Республики Алтай, примерно в 40 км от сёл Курай и Кызыл-Таш.
Это луговой и болотистый край, наполненный небольшими озёрами, среди которых самое крупное — Джангысколь.
Оно расположено на горном плато высотой 1750 м в долине реки Чуя, в её среднем течении, между Курайским и Северо-Чуйским хребтами.
На плато и в урочище растёт множество видов мха, также часто встречаются осоки, очень низкие кустарники и заросли сабельника. Примерно к концу июля это растение приобретает насыщенный рубиновый оттенок — тогда в урочище становится особенно красиво. На плато много птиц, в частности, степных хищников и жаворонков. В запрудах плавают лебеди и утки.
Урочище Ештыкель с озером Джангысколь называют «Укоком в миниатюре».
Train spécial St-Maurice - Lyss tracté par la BR 01 202 de l'association Verein Pacific 01 202. Ce train est le dernier train à vapeur à circuler sur le trajet Lausanne - Villeneuve de la ligne du Simplon, car l'ETCS level 2 sera mis en service quelques jours plus tard.

La BR 223 064 (ER 20) tracte le ALX RE 25 EX 355 (EC 355 dit Západní Express) sur le parcours München Hbf : 08h43 > Praha hlavní nádraží : 14h17. Relais traction à Regensburg Hbf (BR 183 002 Siemens Taurus > BR 223 064).
Par ailleurs, la rame est coupée à Schwandorf Hbf puisqu'une partie du train prend la direction de Hof Hbf.
Train opéré par Die Länderbahn GmbH DLB et České dráhy.
Tracté par une UM de Re 420, le train 60565 Lausanne-triage - Basel RB est immortalisé alors qu'il s'apprête à traverser la halte de Bavois. Son léger retard a failli faire échouer la photo avec l'ICN circulant dans la direction opposée.
Alors que le soleil se lève progressivement au dessus de la taïga finlandaise, un train de bois est observé. Il s'agit du train T 4154 Kontiomäki - Pieksämäki tavara. Il est tracté par la Sr3 3308 des chemins de fer finlandais VR. Le convoi est vu à proximité de Taipale alors qu'il circule avec une heure d'avance.

If I were to pick a favorite damsel it would have to be a Sprite. A challenge to try to photograph but wonderful to watch. I wish I could spend all day with the Sprites!

I passed this house yesterday and couldn't remember seeing it before. Now that we are near the longest day of the year it was lit up on the north side, so a perfect time to get a pic.
It's an interesting neighborhood on the north side of Goshen Indiana. The houses are mostly early Twentieth Century and some are what might now be termed 'tiny houses.' There is one large rambling Colonial looking house that seems a little out of place but is possibly a remainder from an earlier date.
They all face the railroad tracks which is very active, heading toward the nearby Elkhart Rail Yards, one of the largest in the country. I suppose that is why these have not become highly desirable tracts of land, because their backside faces the Elkhart River, one of the most desirable settings in town. I can only imagine what their early life was like before the railroad came in, facing a quiet back street with the river behind them. Across the street was the Oakridge Cemetery.
