A virtual wall of Toxicodendron radicans, a.k.a. eastern poison ivy, on Straitsmouth Island. Sure, my perverse sense of humor has me shooting and posting pictures of this noxious plant all the time, but I've never seen such a large and dense collection of it.

This year has seen a bumper crop of poison ivy everywhere I go on Cape Ann. There was even one little stem of it sprouting in a crack of the threshold of the nearby lighthouse door. For this shot, I was safely perched on the elevated footbridge from the keeper's house to the lighthouse.

I just couldn't keep my mouse off a whole lot of sliders in Lightroom, juicing this up to a neon, dangerous look. Happy Sliders Sunday!

This caterpillar was munching away in the afternoon, but the next morning we found it lifeless.

Monarch caterpillars are well-adjusted to feeding on milkweeds, but sometimes the sticky toxic latex may glue their mouthparts shut making them unable to feed. But perhaps there was some other cause here as we saw other dead Monarch caterpillars in this wild natural area.
