Monster Building Night-Monster Building night. Hong Kong -15 July 2017 This building is probably the most Instagrammed site of Hong Kong and a perfect illustration for dense housing in a megapolis. It is called ‘Monster Building' due to an unbelievable conglomeration of five residential complexes—Oceanic Mansion, Fook Cheong Building, Montane Mansion, Yick Cheong Building, and Yick Fat Building. The complex is also known as Yik Cheong Building, one of the most famous buildings in Quarry Bay.

This is a view I see every year, and every year there is change to be seen, as there is in every city.

Is change for the better? It keeps very quiet on that...

One World Trade Center, also known as One World Trade, One WTC, and formerly the Freedom Tower (still sometimes used colloquially),[note 1] is the main building of the rebuilt World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan, New York City. Designed by David Childs of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, One World Trade Center is the tallest building in the United States, the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, and the seventh-tallest in the world. The supertall structure has the same name as the North Tower of the original World Trade Center, which was destroyed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The new skyscraper stands on the northwest corner of the 16-acre (6.5 ha) World Trade Center site, on the site of the original 6 World Trade Center. It is bounded by West Street to the west, Vesey Street to the north, Fulton Street to the south, and Washington Street to the east.

(supermoon, earlier this evening)

Only one after noon, sky mostly grey in grey, late afternoon some blue sky, just not enough time to take pictures, evaluate them and then come back and improv on them.

There are three of them, one for living and two commercial buildings with many businesses. This is a realtor’s dream, location, location and location.

But photographing them is more of a challenge. There is a limited choice of locations. To take them all, just from the other side of the river Rhine (Rechts Rheinisch. Or as a panorama from behind.

Other than this from the bride, Severinsbrücke, from the floor. But they are huge, even with very wide angle from the floor, there is either not enough space, some other buildings, or converging lines.

Designed by Hadi Teherani, they won several prices.

I remember taking this image like yesterday, but I've had to go back 17 years to find more snow. A nice walk that morning.

Former office tower is turned into student housing

From where I took this photograph there are a few small blocks of flats/apartments (about 4 stories) behind me. Over the years the occupants of the said flats have enjoyed the morning sunrise on their balconies; which may well be why they chose to live there; not any more, all they see now is this. This image was taken at roughly mid-day and it will probably go dark in about 4 hours, but what do property developers care, it’s all about £££. Sign of the times I suppose.

Shoreditch office blocks

Century St, Manchester

I was hoping to find some local history about this street, but alas nothing came up. I thought if I stood further back under the tram bridge, I could capture a frame within a frame of the newest tower blocks in Manchester – Deansgate Square, a development of four individual towers.

One for you Brad….

Captured in October 2015, this was the controlled demolition of the infamous Red Road Flats in the area of Balornock, Northeast of the centre of Glasgow.

The demolition of 6 towers simultaneously was one of the biggest controlled demolitions in Europe and it all went wrong. The two towers seen right of frame remained partially standing and dangerously perilous. It took a long time for them to be broken down afterwards. Not everything goes to plan.

I am seeing video evidence of Russia using cluster bombs and thermobaric bombs on civilian targets in Ukraine. These munitions are banned by the Geneva Convention. Indiscriminate weapons used upon civilian targets. War crimes. A war against humanity. Europe. Again. Humanity learns nothing from the devastating history of our past.

I have seen many videos showing incredible acts of bravery, individually and en masse, of ordinary Ukrainian people. Sadly I fear that the longer this barbaric attack continues, the more devastating the weapons and targets will become. I can't see Putin stopping at Ukraine either. There are plenty of reports and documents out there suggesting that he won't. This is absolute insanity.

My thoughts remain with the people of Ukraine, their families and their friends.

My thoughts too are with those Russian military personal that refuse to fight, those that lay down their arms and surrender. Those who had no idea they were being sent to fight their Slavic brothers and sisters.

Those who continue to fight are as guilty as those who order them to fight. 'I was following orders' is not an excuse.

I wish and hope that Europe will know peace once more - and soon. Be safe my Flickr friends.
