Hydnellum peckii. A wee jaunt to the ancient pine forests of Caledonia last week produced several specimens at two different sites. I didn't expect to come across these, but they were top of my wish list. Next time I hope to find them younger with the droplets on the top!
Tombstone can be just shockingly dramatic. Its sea of gold and red pierced by jagged mountain peaks conjures the imagination. The Shark’s Tooth is a great example of this - you really need to see it to believe it.

I saw a post somewhere that called this Dragon's Tooth, and that seems as good a name as any. In my 5 days in Northern California, this was the only one that wasn't fogged in. Fog is great for redwoods shots, not so much for ocean sunsets.
Terrific find just today - coral-tooth fungus - several colonies on just one dead tree - Epping Forest.

Zahn der Zeit
Sitting around in a park at lunch break of a seminar course, playing around with the cheap always-in-the-pocket-camera and philosophing about the tooth of time...;-)
Man sitzt so in einer Seminarmittagspause in einem Park rum, schnappt sich die billige immer-dabei-Kamera und macht sich so seine Gedanken über den Zahn der Zeit...;-)
Over the break I felt I had to get out with the camera as I have not been doing any photography since Harris, this is mainly due to work etc I chose to revisit this old bridge that's hidden away down a steep ravine that's I chanced upon about 10 years ago and this time armed with my 24 mm tilt shift I have tried a different approach. Any thoughts most welcome
Some violet-toothed polypore growing on a decaying river birch log made for a colorful tableau in the floodplain forest of Goose Island Park, La Crosse County, Wisconsin.

Coral tooth fungus
One of the more interesting fungi that grows here and it can get quite large. This one was probably about 4 inches across but I've seen them twice as large

These Bearded Tooth Fungi are growing under a piece of a log that came from a Red Maple we had cut down in the backyard.
The Coral Tooth fungus (Ästiger Stachelbart, Hericium coralloides) is a saprotrophic fungus growing on dead hardwood trees. Young specimens are edible, but I think this fungus is just too beautiful to end up in a frying pan.
police housing, abandoned munitions store. Great light in here, loved how it caught the remnants of the upright banister and peeling textured detail of the walls…and no I didn’t go up, as the bottom four steps has disintegrated and the rest were rotten as hell
First time I've run across this mushroom. Photographed on the Shady Maple Trail, Goose Island Park, La Crosse County, Wisconsin.
A male Tooth-billed Bowerbird (Scenopoeetes dentirostris) calling at his bower in the Crater Lakes National Park near Yungaburra, Queensland. The genus Scenopoeetes is monotypic, and this species is endemic to the Wet Tropics of northeast Queensland, making it a pretty special local bird. It mimics other birds in a raucous, loud, harsh stream of sounds with occasional quiet mimicry, and its repertoire includes an array of local parrots, honeyeaters and thornbills, among others.
The Toothed cap fungus (Tarzetta cupularis), a small uncommon fungus taken couple years ago but haven't yet been posted. This one was nearly completely flattened with a younger one gently poking out from the ground. Mixed woodland near Lansdown racecourse, Bath, Somerset, England

This is one of the species that will become extinct due to global warming. It has a limited range in high altitude tropical rainforests. It can only go up as the planet warms and our mountains aren't very high.

I've been busy busy busy lately ;-)
I am a camp photographer at a day camp in my area. I would much rather be working with the kids. This little boy lost his tooth as I was taking his picture. I brought him up to the nurse, so that she could give him a place to keep his tooth safe. His counselor and him thanked me so much for taking care of him. I can be very motherly, and love working with kids so much. This will be my last summer behind the camera at camp. 07-02-08
