13th annual D.U.M.B.O. Art Under the Bridge Festival® (Sept 25 to Sept 27, 2009)
www.dumboartfestival.org/press_release.html
The three-day multi-site neighborhood-wide event is a one-of-a-kind art happening: where serendipity meets the haphazard and where the unpredictable, spontaneous and downright weird thrive. The now teenage D.U.M.B.O. Art Under the Bridge Festival® presents touchable, accessible, and interactive art, on a scale that makes it the nation's largest urban forum for experimental art.
Art Under the Bridge is an opportunity for young artists to use any medium imaginable to create temporary projects on-the-spot everywhere and anywhere, completely transforming the Dumbo section of Brooklyn, New York, into a vibrant platform for self-expression. In addition to the 80+ projects throughout the historical post-industrial waterfront span, visitors can tour local artists' studios or check out the indoor video_dumbo, a non-stop program of cutting-edge video art from New York City and around the world.
The Dumbo Arts Center (DAC) has been the exclusive producer of the D.U.M.B.O Art Under the Bridge Festival® since 1997. DAC is a big impact, small non-profit, that in addition to its year-round gallery exhibitions, is committed to preserving Dumbo as a site in New York City where emerging visual artists can experiment in the public domain, while having unprecedented freedom and access to normally off-limit locations.

Here is a little peek into my sewing "toolbox" that holds all sorts of goodies for making things.
This one shot a day is getting to be more and more challenging. This is my wife's box of pastels, and I'm not quite happy with the shot.

My head is still spinning from working through David Duchemin 's 60 lessons book. Unfortunately, it looks like that there is no shortcut for being able to make continuously compelling photographs. So, I scaled down my expectations and accepted that this process will be a lifelong journey. In the meantime, I even see this positive, as making photographs will never become boring due to the endless opportunities which you can discover everywhere.
Pragmatically, I structured now David's lessons in GREEN (feel quite comfortable), YELLOW (got an idea what to do) and RED (have hardly any clue, need to dig in deeper). So, don't be surprised I'll share with you my learning curve/experiences in the months to come. And as always, I highly appreciate your constructive discussions/questions about intent, composition, light, moments, improvements and the message of the photograph.
Have a wonderful day and never lose your curiosity about photography.
You're probably expecting turkey pictures, or at least some nice family photos, and I've got a few of those if you'd like to see them. But this is my personal favorite from the day - Randy's brother's tool box (during golden hour, no less).
Tinhorão, Caládio, Tajá, Taja, Taiá ou Coração-de-Jesus (Caladium bicolor)
Origem: Wikipédia, a enciclopédia livre.
A floração ocorre no verĂŁo.

O Amor, trágico e triste, e passe, lenta,
A morte, o espasmo gélido, aflitivo...
Lésbia nervosa, fascinante e doente,
Cruel e demonĂaca serpente
Das flamejantes atrações do gozo.
Dos teus seios acĂdulos, amargos,
Fluem capros aromas e os letargos,
Os Ăłpios de um luar tuberculoso...

Caladium bicolor
From Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia.
Caladium bicolor, called Heart of Jesus, is a species in the genus Caladium from Latin America. It is grown as a houseplant for its large, heart or lance-shaped leaves with striking green, white, pink, and red blotching. Hundreds of cultivars are available. (See List of Caladium cultivars.) It can be planted outside in USDA Hardiness Zone 10 as an ornamental. It is a problematic invasive species in Trinidad and Tobago, Guam, Micronesia, Palau, Hawaii and the Philippines, and naturalized populations can be found in most of the rest of the world's tropics, including Africa, the Indian subcontinent, southeast Asia and Malesia.[3]
Toxicity:
C. bicolor contains calcium oxalate crystals, making all parts of the plant poisonous to humans, livestock, and pets. Sap coming in contact with the skin may cause skin irritation. Ingestion may cause burning and swelling of the lips, mouth, and tongue, as well as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.[4][5] If a pet consumes caladium, in addition to vomiting, etc., the symptoms include drooling, pawing at mouth or face, and decreased appetite.[6]

OK, surely someone would have wanted this toolbox as a Christmas gift back in 2013! With this trip back in time to that year now drawing to a close, here's another link for you: a photo of this Sears in it's post-glory days, taken at the end of January 2013. Who knew* that it would be closed for good by the end of that same year?
*Well actually, a large majority of people in this area kind of had a sneaking suspicion that this Sears wasn't really going to last much longer!
