Out and about in Tai Po, Hong Kong. The Tolo Harbour and Ma On Shan (mountain and town) in the background.
Ma On Shan is the name of both the large hill and the high-rise town beneath it. This shot was taken from the unfortunately named Ma Shi Chau or Horse-poop island.
Tolo Harbour New Territories, Hong Kong. Look out tower and bridge located in a 25 ha park overlooking the harbour. A ramp, supported on laminated timber columns, extends from the first level of the tower to the waterfront.

Tai Po Waterfront Park, Tolo Harbour New Territories Hong Kong. The Lookout Tower is a feature of a 25ha park on the Tai Mei Tuk Cycling route and with a wide range of facilities and amenities for visitors and nearby residents.The Tower is 32.4m high. Tower Completed in 1997.
The spiral beams supporting the ramp are laminated douglas fir from renewable forests in New Zealand.

And now we take a short break from photojournalism and marvel at some truly incredible cloudscape seen recently outside my window stitched together using 5 full resolution RAWs with the 6D + 17-40 f/4L.
I switched to using Autopano Giga for my panorama stitching as I noticed that Hugin kept on removing resolution from my high res captures—but I couldn’t figure out why. APG has been pretty good so far though so it is nice.

The dragon boat festival is long over, but team members from Hong Kong Police Dragon Boat Club (香港警察龍舟會 PDBC) have been practicing ever more vigorously at Tolo Harbour.
Pictured are two medium-sized dragon boats 富利龍 (Fù lì lóng, lit. rich and easy dragon) and 五週年會長紀念龍 (5th Anniversary Commemorate boat for President) racing each other during the weekends.
As I last wrote, I have tried to do videography for them but I do not currently have a tripod head which can do fluid pan action so instead I shot some stills trying to do a stop-motion flick, but it did not come out as nicely as I wanted to — but stay tuned.

Shek Uk Shan is the highest point (481m) in Hong Kong's Sai Kung Country Park. This is a view looking northwest over Tolo Harbour and Plover Cove reservoir.
Long exposure photography used to take a lot of time. I would travel to a remote location and stayed for hours, then circled back to the studio and worked on it for yet more hours. It still takes a lot of time but removing travel in the equation is far more efficient in the equation.
When I used to live in New York, I would sit in front of the Manhattan Bridge for hours with my tripods to do long exposure HDRs. But after 9-11, police would come and hurry me away, thinking that I am plotting an attack. Seriously WTF? Yes, I bet that a terrorist would spend 3 hours sitting under the bridge with a tripod just so you can see that he is analysing the structural engineering for attacks. NYPD has always been a hassle to me and is very annoying.
So more Hong Kong awesomeness for me now is that I can just mount my camera on the tripod at home and do landscape photography before I go to bed at night. This is a 30-second exposure and everything gets mixed to a beautiful blur. I love it so much that I have decided to try my hand at some Chinese poetry which rhymes.

After sweating in direct sunlight for an hour, I managed a seamless panorama without parallax horizontally, but it would appear that while I have setup the horizontal nodal point correct, I have failed the vertical nodal point so there are vertical seams.
But this is far better than my previous shot without a pano head [1], so it is definitely an improvement. (self pat on the back). Calibrating for the vertical nodal point is tricky, as it requires comparing horizontal lines. For vertical lines I just bring a light-weight light stand with me and compare with buildings far away. For horizontal lines I have to come up with something different.
Pictured is one of the public housing development in Hong Kong, where as you can see, the view is spectacular and the air is fresh.
