Recently my aunt passed away and through the years I sent her little tokens of affection. She saved them, these are some from about 15 years ago which were returned to me as keepsakes.
Also attributed to Seaside, Oregon and Port Hueneme (by the same cataloger who attributes it to Santa Cruz) in Ventura County. More research is needed.
My token shot of the Indian statue on Cherokee street in Benton Park West, a St. Louis subdivision area.
This was one of the tokens that a family member would leave with the foundling so that if they were ever able to claim them back, they would describe the token to prove who they were.
I found this token particularly poignant as you could see the amount of work that had gone into it. I would have loved to know the story behind each token, although I suppose the fact that the tokens were still there would indicate that the children remained at the hospital.
