We've had some rain and I liked the tiny red toadstools that appeared today.

This coral starts moving when I get close to it. You can see it move in this video.

This was taken off Long Island in Cham Islands just off Hoi An, Vietnam.

Toadstool coral, or leather coral (Sarcophyton spp.)

The genus Sarcophyton is comprised of several soft corals belonging to the Subclass Octocorallia and Order Alcyonacea. Depending on where you look, there are between 41 and 46 species altogether with all of them being commonly known as toadstool corals.

I never did understand the North Pole = toadstools connection.

Tiny toadstools growing between cracks in the paving in my garden - and a pine cone - presumably from a passing squirrel! The autumn leaves were all blown into the garden overnight; the most colourful my garden has been in a while!

It was so wet that there were many mushrooms and toadstools beside the Curry Ridge Trail.

On our visit to the Toadstool Hoodoo, I had Ilford HP5 black and white film loaded in my Elan, which resulted in some interesting photos, with nice dynamic range. It was actually difficult to pick among a few candidates, but I liked this one for the detail on the rock and a pretty decent composition. This was taken a little after this shot, so the light was getting to be a little too harsh, but it was still acceptable.

They have a kind of alien/silicon texture.

This toadstool had a pool of water around the top edge which was catching the light although it was actually in a very dark place.... hence the very shallow depth of field. Annoyingly I had no tripod with me that day due to sheer laziness!
