For this expression of the "Toadstools" I first thought of doing a pencil sketch and then selective coloration. As it turned out there were just too many lines. It came out looking like a very detailed road map.
I then decided to keep the pencil sketch for the Toadstools and foreground but reduce its opacity by about 50%. Next, the background was a bit too sharp so I applied On One's software application Focalpoint to dampen the background's impact.
ODC Take a Risk
I turned these wooden toadstools on my pole lathe out of some sycamore saplings that I cut down last weekend. We have to remove sycamore from our wood because it is invasive in ancient woodlands, so I took a risk and tried something different with my lathe.

The contrast between how this looks on my laptop (used for everything except editing) and my PC (used for editing) is seriously irritating.
I can't wait until I get a Mac desktop and I can have no worries about how my pictures look for other people!

These toadstool formations are just a short hike off Hwy 89 in southern Utah. Ink & watercolor, 4x6.

"Amanita muscaria" Fly Agaric .. found in my local woodland. (mixed broad-leaf woods,quite a few Birch in this area)

Amanita muscaria? It's HUGE, maybe 8-9" in diameter... it's been "blooming" for a week now. The birds picked at it's cap.
This one is growing under a pine tree in the corner of our yard. I didn't notice anything last year so he must be new. This is the 3 one that has appeared under this tree so far.
After an usually long hot dry summer in Scotland the mosses, lichens and ferns are all springing back into life and now that it is autumn there are bewildering varieties of toadstools popping up throughout the woods.

i got the idea for little toadstools from one of my bento cookbooks, but they used quail eggs for the stalk. :)
