Titanic Museum, Belfast

On its maiden voyage in April of 1912, the RMS Titanic struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic and sank. More than 1,500 of the 2,240 crew and passengers perished.

Wer hätte gedacht, dass die Titanic am Ufer der Glan in Meisenheim zu finden ist.

Who would have thought that the Titanic could be found on the banks of the Glan in Meisenheim.

The Titanic Museum in Belfast opened in 2012 on the site of the former Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast's Titanic Quarter where the RMS Titanic was built.

The museum tells the stories of the Titanic (which hit an iceberg and sank during its maiden voyage in 1912) and her sister ships RMS Olympic and HMHS Brittanic.

Titanic Museum's design replicates 4 high pointed hulls mimicking the ocean liner, covered by 3,000 individual aluminium shimmering shards.

It is 126 feet tall (38 m) which is the same height as the Titanic's hull.

Over 1500 passengers and crew lost their lives when Titanic sank on 14th April 1912.

Titanic Belfast first opened its doors to the world on 31st March 2012, marking the centenary year of the launching of the legendary liner. Built at Titanic's birthplace, it now stands as the world's largest Titanic visitor experience.

From the sky, the building is the shape of a star, which represents the White Star Line connection.

The plaza surrounding the building is actually a map (one of the largest maps of the Northern Hemisphere at 10 000m2) and follows the route of the Titanic from Belfast to South Hampton, Cobh towards its final resting place.

RMS Titanic, the famous passenger liner that sank on her maiden voyage on the 15th April 1912 following her collision with an iceberg the night before. The North Atlantic Ocean disaster claimed the lives of 1,514 people and is one of the most devastating maritime disasters in history.

Nowhere else on earth can bring you this close to Titanic – the world’s most famous liner, built here in Belfast. She sat here in this very dry dock on the eve of her first and last voyage in April of 1912.

Titanic is remembered for the dramatic story of her sinking, but in 1912, she was an icon for all that was great about the 20 th century.

Titanic Belfast was awarded the World’s Leading Tourist Attraction in the World Travel Awards 2016. The extraordinarily shaped building, shaped like the bow of four ships, charts the history of Harland and Wolff Ship Builders that built the iconic Titanic Cruise Ship in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The Titanic was built at the "Haarland and Wolfe" shipyard in Belfast N.I.

She set sail on her maiden voyage from Southampton, England on the 10th of April 2012 before calling at Cobh, Cork, Ireland. She struck an iceberg off Newfoundland, Canada, on the 15th of April with the loss of over 1500 lives.

There were many immigrant`s who sailed on her to America, hoping to build a better life for themselves and their families.

This was one such man, John William who came from Belfast.

" When last I saw John William, A young man full of pride,

To have his bride of just four days,

Stand shyly by his side,

He laughed and slapped me on the back,

Saying boyo cant you see,

For Ive seen the last of windswept bogs,

And bogs the last of me,

And the peelers and the landlords,

And the risings of the moon,

And if ever I return again,

`Twill be too bloody soon,

" He said my friend Ill take my chance,

In far off New York town

They say theres lots of work there,

And a good man wont stay down.

For with my lassie by my side,

We`ill build a better home,

And when this sea trips over lad,

Sure we never more will roam,

Rich man, poor man, beggarman, wife,

Sailed away into the night,

Where they`ill end up no one knows,

Round and round,

The story goes,

I envied you, John William, you, and your lovely bride,

To be sailing on this might ship,

Across the ocean wide,

For shes the finest liner that was ever built by man,

And they say theres none can sink her,

Not even God`s own hand,

Man`s pride can be his own down fall,

And the big ship sailed from home,

But I thought I hear the Banshee`s cry, [ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banshee ]

That chilled me to the bone,

Rich man, poor man, beggarman, wife

Sailed away into the night,

Where they`ill end up no one knows

Round and round the story goes,

Round and round the iceberg floes "

I visited Titanic Belfast, the number one tourist attraction in the world, where science and engineering are also featured. Here is my blog about my experience.

the lighting is great to watch in the evenings

In between the wind and rain I got out and managed a few shots of The Titanic Signature Building.

Just a play here with the angle when I shooted and a contrasted sky to give a dramatic atmosphere.

Most (all?) images of the Titanic are produced with the terrible benefit of hindsight.

I wanted to try to imagine a more optimistic, glowing start of the crossing.

A nightshot of The Titanic Signature Building. It was hard getting a clear shot of the building as a camera club was on a field trip and blocking all angles. Also I managed to get down early enough before the "Blues Brothers" namely Oul Gundog and victorgrattan arrived and spoiled my night :)

From a production I worked on.
