These pretty little butterflies are easy to spot as the males’ wings have bright orange tips – giving them their name! They are a common sight during spring and can be found in lots of places including meadows, woodland and hedges. The adults lay their eggs on special plants to ensure that their caterpillars have the right food to eat. Orange-tip caterpillars love garlic mustard, cuckooflower and hedge mustard plants.
The male orange-tip is unmistakeable: a white butterfly, half of its forewing is a bold orange, and it has light grey wingtips. The female is also white, but has grey-black wingtips, similar to the white butterflies. Both sexes show a mottled, 'mossy grey' pattern on the underside of their hindwings when at rest.
La foto no tiene nada de surrealista, pero como se trata de un gato y la foto está tomada en un pueblo alpujarreño, pensé: “un gato andaluz” y se me vino a las mientes la película de Buñuel de parecido título (cuatro patas, rabo, orejas tipo radar… que uno ladre y el otro maúlle es una menudencia sin importancia); de ahí el título.
En muchos lugares, sobre todo en las ciudades, existen colonias de gatos ocupando solares o espacios abandonados; suelen ser gatos que sus dueños han dejado allí como quien tira un juguete roto; pero todavía hay lugares, sobre todo en pequeños pueblos, en los que los gatos deambulan a su aire sabiendo que tienen un rincón que es su hogar, las sobras de la comida para alimentarse y personas a las que acariciar/marcar y por las que dejarse tocar/acariciar.

Fatehpur Sikri, es una población abandonada situada a solo 20 kilómetros de Agra, en la India. Fue el sueño del Emperador mogol Akbar. Construida como auténtica ciudad palaciega dotada de todo tipo de edificaciones civiles y religiosas con la idea de que se convirtiera en la capital del Imperio Mogol y lo fue durante unos catorce años hasta que sucumbió a la falta de agua, fue abandonada y pasó a dormir el sueño de los justos
Fue abandonada pero no destruida. De esta manera, esta ciudad edificada en piedra arenisca rojiza puede visitarse tal como se edificó en el último tercio de siglo XVI.
La Unesco incluyó la ciudad de Fatehpur Sikri dentro de la lista del Patrimonio Mundial en 1986.

From a palm tree that produces small coconut like fruit. The trunk and fronds are covered with these thorns. They are up to six inches long and extremely sharp. The theme "tip" for today's Looking Close on Friday group inspired this photo.

Another slide restoration from the 1990s, this one showing the waste from slate mining in Wales.
Today of course, such waste is a valuable asset with many uses.

The Orange Tips have been around in my garden for a while now but this is the only one I've seen land, fortunately I had the camera at the ready, extender and all!!
Anthocharis cardamines (OrangeTip) is a small butterfly belonging to the Pieridae family. They emerge in early April. The males can be easily recognized by the orange tips of their wings which the females don't possess. They can be found throughout Europe and temperate Asia as far as China.
Wing span
Medium-sized, 35–44 mm (1.38–1.73 in.).
Wing upper side
White, forewing tip grey (female) or black (male).
Wing underside
Light yellow, green and grey patches.
Habitat
Forest edges and clearings.
Flying time
Early May–late June. Second generation possible (July–August).
Overwintering form
Cocoon.
Larval foodplant
Meadow vetchling (Lathyrus pratensis), tufted vetch (Vicia cracca) and possibly also other Pea family (Fabaceae) plants.
There are three subfamilies of the Whites and yellows (Pieridae) in Finland. The Mimic sulphurs (Dismorphiinae) contains two species, the better known of which is wood white. The two other Pieridae subfamilies are the Whites (Pierinae) and the Sulphurs (Coliadinae).
The wood white is common in southern and central Finland and can be found here and there in Lapland. It usually rests with its wings against each other, so the upper surface is difficult to study without taking the butterfly in one’s hands. Its long, round-tipped wings and slow, fluttering flying style are characteristic properties of the species. The males fly around looking for females. Females lay their eggs one by one among the leaves that will be the caterpillar’s foodplant. The species is very difficult to differentiate from its close relative, the cryptic wood white.
