Earlier this year CP ran a CWR train along the Galt Sub dropping rail in various locations before continuing south down the Hamilton Sub. While working their way east, the consist was left tied down on the Killean Storage Track on Galt's east side one evening giving local photographers the opportunity for night shots of the London-built SD40-2.

With the time change 'springing ahead' during the night, I was afforded an extra hour of darkness in the morning, with just enough time to grab a few shots after work before the sun came up.

Flickr friends, what do you think ? This is the original, straight out of the camera, but I thought it looked a bit squintbso I cropped it, see version 2. But now I think they both look a bit squint, it's irritating,,because the one I posted on IG is more satisfactory, but theynwon't let me share! Oh well , if anyone has time I'd appreciate your comments :)

The challenge with shooting the male Ruby-throated Hummingbird is to catch them with their gorget lit up. The Black & Bloom is finally blooming and my other plants are close to blooming. So I'll have more opportunities. My backyard.

Digging through the archives takes us back to a decade ago today, August 7, 2012. The timing allowed for a northbound chase during sweet evening light.

This Garter snake was enjoying the hot summer weather after it had just finished moulting/shedding its skin that was still right beside it. Clearly it had outgrown its old skin and it was time for a newer model.

Sad news and for those of us not in the loop very unexpected news out of the Czech Republic. On Sunday October 4th the JHMD narrow gauge railway ceased operation. The company had been facing financial issues for some time due to insufficient PSO contributions, high operations costs, low ridership and by many accounts poor management (namely the owner). Due to these problems the company was unable to renew its operational certificate so train service has been replaced by buses in the meantime. What the future holds remains to be seen. This photo however tells the tale, run down infrastructure and equipment and low passenger counts other than on summer weekends. One can hope that the story doesnt end the way it did for many 760mm lines in neighboring Austria.

What do you do on a drizzly, gloomy day? If you're me, you head out to the woods and see if you can get one or two good captures with fill flash.

This is one of the least busy places I know, always was.

But just when I arrived there today two walkers settled on a bench for their break.

Well, I know how to get there.

It's also a nature reserve since 1938 and originated as a relic of an Ice Age glacier.

I took a day trip recently to a great place to visit, Dauset Trails Nature Reserve; It had been a year since I was there and what a difference! I was a month too late, and the water in the Lotus Pond was way down, the water looked black except in a few areas where the blue sky was reflected...The long hot summer had taken its toll...Even so, if you were willing to lean way over and hold back some weeds, there were still lovely lilies to be found!

Hope you are having a great week!

You may be the best photographer in the world, but sometimes all it takes for the best shot is being in the right place at the right time!

It doesn’t even matter if you take it with your mobile phone or high-end DSLR.

Have a wonderful Sat/Sun!

Nice to be back, had a virus and was unwell for a few days!

Like a mini vacation, three day weekends are a welcome respite from a busy work schedule. On this occasion, it was the Family Day Statutory Holiday that gave most people a break and a few took advantage of free fishing to enjoy the perfext timing of a sunny day.

I only made it to Bedford, Indiana a couple of times. The second time, I managed to photograph a train in the street. However, being February this northbound was coming right out of the sun. At least I was able to view and photograph this interesting operation once.

I was taking a photo of this curly vine when a damselfly decided to land, how's that for timing.

during our rustic-cabin weekend, we were surrounded by pine trees covered in fresh snow. gusts of wind created “snow showers” from the trees. i walked with my camera in the morning light, and just as i turned to face the sun, snow rained down from the forest. right time, right place. it was magical.

I spotted this Osprey and the moon behind it. At first the moon was to the right, took some pics, repositioned myself and waited a bit to get this shot. Central Bucks PA.

Neon lights and colourful menus brighten the night at Good Timing Food Village, a lively hub of street food and local flavours.

Sometimes on the Ferry ride home, we are fortunate to time it with the sunset. This night was no exception in terms of color and vibrance. The sky was lit with various warm colors and the distant mountains delivered wonderful shapes and silhouettes.

In order to capture the image without creating a fuzzy one, the ISO, and shutter speed are turned up. One needs to take advantage of whatever one can, in order to deliver something worth keeping.

After 5 years I finally took a moment to clean up and re-edit what is still to this day my favorite image... Not much can really beat the light, timing, and place, for me in this image. A fortunate few moments in the sun...

Thanks for looking!

I was glad I was able to get focused on the female Belted Kingfisher as it flew by the female Common Merganser. Central Bucks, PA.

Y la cúpula inmóvil

Waiting a day may leave destinations inaccessible or unpleasant.

Good timing for me that these Epiphyllum Hookeri -- Hooker's Orchid Cactus are blooming so much! Two blossoms at once (and a little creative composite editing) were a blessing for me. They don't even last a day opened ... so I had been watching the double ones that had appeared and was blessed they opened on the right day for SoS!

This is what they look like before opening up!

D&SNG 480 drifts around the oft-photographed S-curve above Rockwood.

This location is about a 15-minute hike from Rockwood; I had planned to get there in time to deploy the other camera on the tripod on the left where the other photographer is. Alas, a buckle on my camera bag broke during the hike and so I didn't quite get there in time to do two cameras.

As they say, timing is everything.

As I took this photo from this shed an old man on bicycle stopped next to me. I heavy local dialect he asked me what I was taking photos of.

I told him of the shed, because I like it and because it has the same roof tiles as my house. I told him my house was built in 1933 and I wondered how old the shed might be.

He said: "Well, I can tell you, because my father built it in 1922." Pretty good timing to get the info you want right away!

Photography as Life is a chain of moments, just pick the right one

Day 2 of 2025 saw sun and clouds. When this train to Gent passed me, I saw mostly clouds. It wasn't as bad as a few hundred meters more towards Lokeren. There, sun and rain added some spectacle to the photo.

Timing is everything, as a few minutes earlier the foreground scene was also lit by the sun. And a few minutes after this shot, I had to run and seek shelter for the rain.

The adult peregrine falcon drop a piece of bird in the air, the juvenile peregrine falcon catching it in perfect timing.

My father and I would often visit the local train yard whenever we were out and about. Our timing was perfect when we arrived in Provo, Utah just in time to see a Union Pacific SDP35 on the turntable the afternoon of Jan. 16, 1977. The 1400 was the class engine, one of 10 built by EMD for UP passenger service in August 1965. All 10 were retired in 1985.
