A collection of meticulously carved wooden cuckoo clocks hangs against the weathered, light-toned timber planks of a traditional workshop in Villa La Angostura, Argentina. The soft, diffuse ambient light highlights the intricate craftsmanship of each pendulum-driven timepiece, revealing the depth of the wood grain and the precise ornamental carvings that define these alpine artifacts. Beneath the arrangement, a vibrant, hand-painted ceramic tile sign reads 'Cucu Schulz,' grounding the scene in the distinct heritage of this mountain village where Central European traditions flourish. The composition emphasizes the rhythmic repetition of the weights and pendulums, creating a visual symphony of shadows and textures that evoke the timeless precision of master horology. Each clock, varying in size and complexity, offers a window into a culture dedicated to mechanical artistry and patience. The shallow depth of field isolates the clocks, allowing the viewer to appreciate the fine details of the miniature houses, foliage, and woodland creatures adorning the facades. The atmosphere is one of quiet nostalgia, characteristic of the unique blend of Patagonian charm and immigrant heritage found within this remote mountain enclave. Through thoughtful framing, the image captures the essence of a workspace where history is kept alive one tick at a time. This image is a collaborative production by Samuel Jeffery and Audrey Bergner for Project 23.

Sometimes the subject just comes to you.

🚗 An Excalibur Series IV Phaeton (1982) pulled up right next to my house — after over 1000 km of flawless driving from Switzerland to Budapest.

Inspired by 1920s Mercedes SSKs but powered by an American V8, this hand-built retro-luxury machine was one of the most extravagant neoclassic cars of its era.

A winding staircase inside Casa Batlló, where iron curves embrace sculpted walls, and natural light filters through Gaudí’s organic dreamscape.

Buenos Aires, Capital Federal: A dimly lit, intimate wine cellar showcases the rich viticultural heritage of Argentina through rows of meticulously organized bottles housed in dark wooden shelving. Warm, golden illumination from vintage-style lantern fixtures casts soft shadows against a deep red wall, creating an atmosphere of timeless sophistication. The central focus is a weathered wooden barrel bearing the inscription 'La Posada de 1820', acting as a tactile bridge to the country’s nineteenth-century architectural and social history. The shallow depth of field gently blurs the foreground, leading the viewer's eye into the heart of this subterranean sanctuary where history is preserved in glass. Textural contrasts between the woven basket, smooth wooden surfaces, and the rustic finish of the barrel evoke a sense of heritage deeply embedded in the local culture. Every detail, from the symmetry of the bottle arrangement to the choice of warm lighting, emphasizes the dedication to preserving historical ambiance within the modern urban landscape. This interior space reflects a profound appreciation for Argentine winemaking traditions and the preservation of historic sites that define the capital's character. By documenting such evocative settings, the photograph highlights how regional identity is curated through design, architecture, and the celebration of time-honored hospitality. San Antonio de Areco, Buenos Aires: A traveler pauses for a moment of quiet reflection under the shade of a rustic timber veranda. The scene is anchored by the rhythmic pattern of terracotta floor tiles and the stark, elegant simplicity of white-washed colonial walls. Natural light filters softly through the surrounding foliage, casting gentle shadows that emphasize the textures of weathered wood and hand-crafted metal lanterns. The architecture reflects the timeless aesthetic of the Argentine pampas, where traditional living blends seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. Samuel Jeffery sits comfortably at a solitary wooden table, embodying the slow, deliberate pace of life found within this cultural heartland of gaucho heritage. Each architectural detail, from the heavy wooden doorways to the exposed rafters, tells a story of craftsmanship preserved across generations. The composition utilizes a deep focus to draw the eye from the foreground terra-cotta to the peaceful outdoor living space beyond. Such settings serve as a poignant reminder of the importance of slowing down to appreciate the historical depth and architectural legacy of rural Argentina. This image captures the authentic spirit of a region defined by its deep-rooted traditions and tranquil atmosphere. This image is a collaborative production by Samuel Jeffery and Audrey Bergner for Project 23.

San Antonio de Areco, Buenos Aires: A collection of meticulously preserved antique mercantile instruments sits atop a polished wooden surface, offering a window into the pastoral legacy of the Argentine Pampas. The composition centers on a heavy, metallic cash register from the mid-20th century, flanked by brass scales and tiered shelves laden with rusted oil lamps, vintage tins, and glass bottles. Soft, diffuse light spills across the room, highlighting the weathered textures of the plaster walls and the intricate, industrial craftsmanship of the past. Each object, from the handheld irons to the kerosene lanterns, serves as a silent testament to the daily commerce that once defined the life of the gaucho-influenced countryside. The photographer captures a shallow depth of field that emphasizes the tactile nature of these relics, turning a simple shop display into a profound narrative of regional history and evolving traditions. Visitors to this space can feel the weight of time encapsulated within the brass and iron, bridging the gap between modern travel and the rustic heritage of the province. This deliberate preservation of a general store, known as a 'pulpería', honors the communal spirit that has shaped the cultural identity of rural Argentina for generations. Such museums are essential for understanding the transition of this town from a frontier outpost to a revered bastion of gaucho culture and historical craftsmanship. This image is a collaborative production by Samuel Jeffery and Audrey Bergner for Project 23.
