A traditional Dutch farmhouse in the Betuwe, the fertile river region between the Rhine and the Waal in the heart of the Netherlands. Surrounded by orchards, meadows, and pollard willows, this rural homestead reflects the quiet charm of the Dutch countryside. The brick farmhouse, often with a thatched or tiled roof, stands among fruit trees and winding dikes, where time seems to move a little slower. Early morning mist, grazing cows, and the soft light over the landscape give the scene a timeless and peaceful character — a glimpse of authentic rural life in the Netherlands.

Captured in the heart of Namibia’s Namib Desert, this breathtaking dune in Sossusvlei glows with warm hues under the rising sun. The interplay of light and shadow creates a dramatic contrast, showcasing the raw beauty of one of the world’s oldest deserts. A mesmerizing landscape of solitude, timelessness, and nature’s artistry.
the flicker of hundreds of candles danced across the stone walls of the pueblo español, whispering secrets of music and light. the quartet, framed by glowing columns and timeless statues, played melodies of coldplay and imagine dragons. each note floated through the dark, igniting the stillness of the night. silhouettes leaned in, almost as if holding their breath, as music and flame merged into something sacred. the night stood still, just for a moment.

We are on our way to Udabno. In the distance, we can already see the village, nestled among the colorful hills and bathed in the warm light of the setting sun. In the valley below, countless cows are grazing peacefully in the evening quiet. Udabno is located in the east of Georgia — a world of vast emptiness and rolling hills, near the border with Azerbaijan, and forms a fascinating contrast to the green, mountainous parts of the country. Here, an impressive semi-desert landscape unfolds, with colorful hills, dusty trails, and endless horizons. The earth shines in shades of yellow, red, and brown, especially when the sun hangs low in the sky, and the silence is almost tangible. Not far from the village of Udabno lies a small lake, better known as the swimming lake — a hidden gem in this rugged environment. This peaceful, natural lake is surrounded by gently rolling semi-desert hills and vast open plains.
Because it is a natural lake, its water level changes with the seasons. Thanks to its remote location, the lake feels incredibly serene — you’ll likely have the entire landscape to yourself. The calm water mirrors the endless sky, and the surroundings are perfect for peaceful walks, picnics, or simply soaking in the silence. Occasionally, shepherds pass by with their flocks, adding to the timeless, almost dreamlike atmosphere. Especially in the early morning or during sunset, when the light turns golden and the hills glow in warm tones, the little lake feels truly magical.
Driving towards Udabno, we watched the village appear between colorful hills, glowing under the setting sun. In the valley, cows grazed peacefully in the evening light. Udabno lies in eastern Georgia, where endless semi-desert hills stretch toward the horizon, forming a striking contrast to the country’s lush mountains. Nearby, a small natural lake — often called the swimming lake — rests quietly among the rolling hills. Its water level shifts with the seasons, and the peaceful surroundings invite slow walks, quiet moments, and sunset views. Occasionally, shepherds and their flocks pass by, adding a timeless charm to this remote and magical place.

This beautifully preserved machiya (町家) in Kanazawa is a prime example of traditional Edo-period architecture, blending history with modern elegance. The wooden latticework (koshi) on the lower level once served as a discreet way to allow airflow and light while maintaining privacy, a hallmark of classic merchant houses. The dark-stained wood and white plaster walls reflect the careful craftsmanship that has kept these structures standing for centuries.
Kanazawa’s chaya districts—including Higashi Chaya, Kazuemachi, and Nishi Chaya—are renowned for such two-story wooden townhouses, which were historically used as geisha teahouses and merchant residences. The second-floor windows, often covered with bamboo screens (sudare), hint at the building’s past, where patrons once enjoyed performances in intimate, softly lit spaces.
The glowing lanterns lining the entrance create an inviting warmth, while the carefully arranged rock garden at the doorstep adds a touch of Zen minimalism. The roof eaves, with their slightly curved kawara tiles, are designed to channel rainwater away while adding a decorative flourish to the structure.
Despite being surrounded by modern buildings in the background, this historic street remains a quiet retreat, offering visitors a glimpse into Japan’s architectural past. Walking through these lantern-lit alleys at night evokes a sense of timelessness, as if stepping into a bygone era where tradition and craftsmanship reign supreme.

For Macro Monday, I captured these small monastery bells gently dangling from a weathered wooden beam in Klosterhof Bernried. Their aged metal texture and delicate suspension on steel cables tell a story of time and tradition. The fine details of these rustic bells shine through in monochrome, emphasizing their historic charm and craftsmanship. A peaceful moment frozen in time, where every dangle carries an echo of the past.

Sioni, located along the Jvari Pass in the Kazbegi region of northern Georgia, is a hidden gem for travelers, photographers, and mountain enthusiasts. This historic site features a medieval church visible on the right in the photo that holds both religious and cultural significance. Adjacent to the church stands a watchtower or bell tower, a characteristic feature of Georgian churches. These towers often served a dual purpose: functioning as bell towers for religious ceremonies and as defensive structures against invaders. The church itself is modestly decorated, with ancient frescoes and icons reflecting the Orthodox tradition. Despite its simplicity, the structure exudes a profound sense of spiritual tranquility, perfectly complementing the isolated mountain setting. Nestled within the breathtaking Caucasus Mountains, near the Georgian Military Highway that connects Tbilisi to Russia, the area offers stunning vistas of rugged peaks, deep gorges, and lush valleys. Landmarks like Mount Kazbek and Mount Shani often dominate the background. To the left in the photo is the Pkhelshe St. George Church, a small yet remarkable medieval church also situated in the Kazbegi region. Dedicated to St. George, one of Georgia's most venerated saints, the church symbolizes courage, triumph, and national identity. Perched on an elevated plateau, its strategic location once provided not only spiritual solace but also a vantage point for monitoring potential threats. The Pkhelshe St. George Church plays a vital role in the religious and social life of the surrounding villages. It serves as a gathering place for church services, celebrations, and commemorations, particularly during St. George’s Day, one of Georgia’s most significant religious holidays. The combination of religious importance, historic architecture, and breathtaking natural beauty makes this site an unforgettable destination.
Sioni's location along the Jvari Pass makes it a serene and peaceful place, where history and nature seamlessly merge. Travelers following the Georgian Military Highway often pass this place and admire not only the church itself, but also the panoramic view that the area offers. Especially in winter, with snow-capped peaks and misty valleys, Sioni takes on a timeless, almost mystical atmosphere. Photo of Kanitha embracing the beauty of Sioni: a dance among the clouds and peaks
The David Gareja Monastery complex is one of the most unique and historically significant religious sites in Georgia. Located in the Kakheti region, near the border with Azerbaijan, the complex is partly carved into the rocks of a rugged, semi-desert landscape. It was founded in the 6th century by the Syrian monk David Garejeli. Over the following centuries, it became an important center of religion, art, and scholarship—especially during the medieval period. Despite repeated invasions, including by Mongols and Persians, it has always remained a place of deep spiritual meaning. This photo shows the courtyard of the Lavra Monastery, the oldest part of the complex. In the upper right corner, you can see the wooden gallery of the building that serves as the communal space for the monks — a place where they eat, gather, and find rest. The timber balcony and extended structure give it a warm, welcoming appearance, even in this remote and austere setting. To the left, in the background, rises the small church with its bell tower, dedicated to David Garejeli himself — the revered founder of the monastery. The weathered stone, the cross motifs in the wall, and the simple architecture reflect the essence of monastic life: simplicity, community, and contemplation. Here in this quiet courtyard, one can feel history, faith, and landscape come together — far from the world, yet full of meaning.
This photo captures the quiet courtyard of the ancient Lavra Monastery at David Gareja. On the right is the monks’ communal hall, where they gather and share meals; in the background stands the simple stone church of Saint David Garejeli. The architecture reflects a life of humility and reflection, set in the stillness of Georgia’s semi-desert hills.
This textured mixed-media painting captures the vibrant beauty of roses in full bloom. Layers of acrylic and oil paints, combined with various materials like fabric, beads, and paper, create depth and intrigue. The palette ranges from soft lilacs and pinks to striking oranges, set against a dreamy background of muted blue and earthy tones. The intricate details, from the tactile texture of the vase to the delicate embellishments, evoke a sense of elegance and harmony.

Nădrag’s industrial history is a microcosm of Romania’s broader industrial trajectory—from the promise of modern industry in the 19th century, through the aggressive industrialization of the communist era, to the stark decline following the 1989 revolution. The Ciocanul factory, once a symbol of economic vitality, now stands as a relic of a bygone era, overtaken by nature and time, as seen in the photo. While the factory’s abandonment reflects the challenges of post-communist transition, it also raises questions about the potential for revitalization—whether through cultural projects, tourism (like urban exploration), or environmental cleanup initiatives.
Ecco il Sole piegarsi all’abisso,
fiamma sospesa tra cielo e mare,
carro d’Apollo che sfiora l’orizzonte,
fondendo oro e sangue nell’ultima corsa.
Il Mediterraneo lo accoglie in silenzio,
eco di dèi e canti svaniti,
mentre il fuoco si dissolve nell’onda,
promessa eterna di un ritorno.

Sighnaghi is a charming town in Georgia’s Kakheti wine region, also known as the City of Love. The square near the police station is called Irakli II Square, named after King Irakli II, who in the 18th century also built the town’s defensive walls. At the center of the square stands the Sighnaghi Fountain, crowned with a large qvevri – the traditional Georgian wine amphora – topped by a deer, symbolizing nature and freedom. The reliefs on the qvevri tell the story of Georgia’s ancient winemaking culture, which has been alive in Kakheti for over 8,000 years. In the background, the rolling hills surrounding Sighnaghi stretch into the distance, dotted with vineyards and colorful houses clinging to the slopes. The white façade of the building on the left and the warm tones of the stone houses create a picturesque scene, further enhanced by the golden hues of autumn trees. Squares like this are typical of Sighnaghi: small, intimate, and steeped in history. It’s a place where locals and visitors pause to enjoy a glass of local wine or simply take in the view of the old town – a welcoming meeting point where history, wine, and tradition come together.
The Sighnaghi Fountain, located on Irakli II Square, is crowned with a qvevri, Georgia’s traditional wine amphora, topped by a deer symbolizing both nature and the region’s ancient hunting traditions. Its design honors Kakheti’s 8,000-year-old winemaking heritage, making it a cultural landmark that reflects the deep connection between wine, nature, and history in this part of Georgia.

The eye is naturally drawn toward the central entrance of the Šarena Džamija, framed by white-painted columns and refined decorative details that give the wall a sense of harmony and balance. Above the doorway, calligraphic panels and ornamental elements create a calm, almost rhythmic order. The painted walls reveal floral motifs, geometric patterns, and subtle landscapes that gently balance one another. Soft daylight enters the space, highlighting warm tones and textures without overwhelming the interior. Everything feels carefully composed, with a natural sense of calm and proportion. On the pillars, small signs quietly remind visitors to remove their shoes and switch off mobile phones, inviting a moment of respect and stillness. Inside the Šarena Džamija, a richly decorated space unfolds where color, form, and symmetry come together. The mosque was originally built in the 15th century and later received its distinctive painted decoration. Despite its age, the space feels open and welcoming — a place where history, craftsmanship, and everyday life meet in quiet harmony.
Inside the Šarena Džamija in Tetovo, North Macedonia, color, light, and symmetry come together in a richly decorated interior. Built in the 15th century, the mosque remains a living place where history, craftsmanship, and daily life meet.
Perched above the water, the nighttime silhouette of Södermalm reveals one of Stockholm’s most charming districts. The warm lights of the houses gently reflect on the dark current, giving the scene a welcoming glow. The historic architecture, with its turrets and ornate facades, evokes a bygone era, while the clear night sky adds a timeless quality. Here, history and modernity blend in a captivating play of light.
E li porto divinamente."

Following up on my last post about Cinema Rex—once a glamorous theater, now a forgotten gem. Opened in 1933, it dazzled with a starry-sky ceiling and Moorish decor. Over time, modernization stripped its charm, and by the 2000s, it was abandoned. But there’s hope! Ghent is restoring it into a ‘House of Cinema,’ just in time for its 2030 European Capital of Culture bid. Exciting times ahead for this piece of history!
