Festive illuminations bring to life the half-timbered facades around Celle's Christmas market in the historical old quarter. More than 80 beautifully decorated wooden booths are clustered together, spilling into the narrow surrounding streets. At the centre is the 14m-high illuminated Christmas pyramid to be marvelled at. The Christmas wood on the Stechbahn is also beautiful with traditional and individual handiwork. Here you can find a fitting Christmas gift at any of the stands.

………Yesterdays adventure for a 5¾yr old - a visit to Little Moreton Hall - a Moated Tudor gem built & extended in many directions over time between around1500 and 1600 and has defied gravity ever since! I guess its gone a bit more wibbly wobbly in the passage of time also!! The roof tiles apparently weigh the same as a herd of 32 Elephants!!!! …….

Ville d'art et d'histoire - Stadt von Kunst und Geschichte - City of art and history
• Structural evidence of Breton history in the area of the old town. Brittany’s most traditional region, and has a distinctive Breton Celtic character.
• The cathedral is one of the most beautiful achievements of Gothic art. It took three centuries to build. The two unique filigree spiers rise 76 meters into the air.
The timber-framed Woodleys (left) and York Farm Cottage (right) in West Hagbourne, South Oxfordshire. Both date from the 17th century, while the large York Farmhouse (right background) was probably built in the early 16th century. All three are Grade II-listed with Historic England.
The half-timbered houses and unique renaissance buildings on the Weser river provide a wonderful backdrop for visitors to Hameln (Hamelin) Christmas market.

Built in the late 17th century, this cottage in the village of Brightwell-cum-Sotwell, South Oxfordshire, UK, was our family home for 18 years until 2002 when we moved to a larger house elsewhere in the village. We have never regretted the change, yet photographing this today in its chocolate-box glory did bring back many happy memories.
This charming timber-framed cottage is not especially remarkable except that it's such a joy to find an example unspoilt by cars, rubbish bins, telegraph poles, overhead cables, road signage ...
Beyond the village pond in West Hagbourne, South Oxfordshire, is Green Thatch, a timber-framed cottage dating from the 17th century.
Ladygrove Farmhouse, Didcot, dating from the early 17th century, is totally encircled by thousands of 21st century houses built on the land it once farmed (now the Ladygrove Estate); largely hidden by trees, few 'locals' are even aware of its existence.
• Vannes, capital of Morbihan, Breton episcopal city, is located on the Gulf of Morbihan.
• The wash houses are located below the city wall in front of the Bastion de la Garenne (17th century) and were classified as a historical monument in 1928. They consist of several parts:
A gallery, covered with a slate roof, follows
the curve of the river, where the laundresses sat on stone slabs, a floor with a half-timbered facade, had been reserved for the tanners. The large number of chimney stumps indicates the location of the laundry rooms. After washing and subsequent rinsing, the laundry was left to dry.
At the centre is the 14m-high illuminated Christmas pyramid to be marvelled at. The Christmas wood on the Stechbahn (Old city tournament field) is also beautiful with traditional and individual handiwork.

My fourth attempt over a long period, and still a struggle to get something respectable. It is such a lovely scene to the eye, yet bedevilled by wires, cables, telegraph poles, cars, refuse bins, TV aerials, etc. Still not great, but this one is probably as good as it is ever going to get.
• The construction of the cathedral, made almost entirely of granite, began as early as 1240, but was not completed until 1856 when the tops of the spiers were erected.

In medieval times the village of Lavenham in Suffolk was one of the richest in England. It thrived on the wool trade in the 15th and 16th centuries when local merchants became very wealthy.
One the ways they could show their wealth was in the building of houses which .has resulted in the village having many half timbered properties that have stood the test of time over many centuries. There are over 200 grade 1 and grade 2 listed structures in the village today.
This house, known as Cordwainers, dates from circa 15th century and is located in the High Street. It is a timber frame and plastered building with grade 2 listed protection. In the past it was the One Bell Inn but is now a private house. I particularly like the different shapes and sizes of the timber beams, the colour of the plasterwork and the blocked up doorway on the right. A magnificent property!

The village of Lavenham in Suffolk has over 200 listed buildings, some dating back as far as the middles ages when the village became one the most prosperous places in England through its connection with the wool trade.
These cottages are grade 2 listed structures and probably date from circa 15-16th century. As listed buildings they cannot be demolished without prior approval from the local authority – in this case Babergh District Council.
Photographing these cottages, and many other buildings in Lavenham, is often difficult because of the large number of parked cars on the streets – hence this is more tightly cropped than I would have liked. Nonetheless, the message built to last still comes across loud and clear!

Church Farmhouse beside the footpath to St Mary's Church, in the village of Long Wittenham, South Oxfordshire
Although it was rebuilt circa 1660, the history of this site goes back even further as it was the home of Howel ab Ieuaf, the Lord of Arwystli, a medieval warlord engaged in skirmishes along the border with England in the 12th century. It is claimed 300 mature oak trees were used in the construction of the new house.
Today the property, in a remote location in mid Wales, is a holiday home. It is a grade II listed building giving it legal protection from major changes or alterations without prior approval from the local authority.
One of the exhibitions during Oxfordshire Art Weeks was an 'open weekend' when one could tour the workshops of the many independent woodworkers at the Sylva Wood Centre, in the village of Long Wittenham, South Oxfordshire. In addition, the Centre had again opened its remarkable 'House of Wessex', a reconstructed Anglo-Saxon house, where members of the living history society Wulfheodenas very skilfully demonstrated various crafts including weaving, metalwork and, here, the ancient production of various threads and fabrics using natural colourings. I love the pastels!
SSC - Decoration
Decoration(s) are all around us. I used to drive passed this house daily to and from work, my memory has played tricks on me as when I visited there was just the one chimney where I thought there were 3! Nevertheless the front elevation is still a work of art and nobody takes the time to build a chimney like this nowadays. The house is currently painted in traditional Suffolk pink and looks wonderful but I thought the sepia style would emphasis its age.
