I found this stairway in Tijuana. It was originally white, but last time I went back they had painted it!

If you view LARGE, you can see one family of people outside on the porch area. Can you find the people in this photo? I can see people in two places.

Ever heard of Tom Daniel?
I’d argue that him and Larry Wood might have been the most influential figures in the toy car industry. Larry kept on truckin’ for most of the 80ies and 90ies, while Tom reached his peak creative output in the 1970ies with such iconic creations like the Red Baron, S’cool Bus, Paddy Wagon, Badman Chevy, the Hangman, Baja Bandeto, Pie Wagon, Tatantula Dragster… While Larry worked mostly on Hot Wheels, Tom’s creations were also made into model kits, one of them is the Tijuana Taxi, which is loosley based on a Ford T, but Tom’s designs are mostly made up hot rods, mirroring the show rod craze of late 60ies and 70ies.
I mostly built the Tijuana Taxi out of LEGO, because the kit is meanwhile so rare and expensive, that I don’t see myself ever building that. I also finally had a good reason to use the awesome sombreros from the LEGO minifigure collectibles series.
The car is mostly built as I would build it, if I had to make a set. It’s quite stable, there is no werid connections, or illegal mods. But since it’ll never be a set, I went overboard with certain details that are flimsy when played with (the seats on the chest out back, the running boards), and chromed bricks that I got from Auri’s Chrome Block City. But since this is for fun only, didn’t bother solving any issues I might have encountered.

The Tijuana Cultural Center (CECUT) is a center of Mexico on the border, the most important in the northwest region, the only institution of the National Council for Culture and the Arts outside the capital. Since its foundation on October 20th, 1982, undertook the task to meet the artistic and cultural needs of the population through a set of services in different art forms and themes of contemporary culture. Located in one of the most modern urban areas of the city and five minutes from the border, the Tijuana Cultural Center has become the most recognized symbol that identifies Tijuana.
