From our rented farmhouse base in Essex, we ventured out to a few spots along Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains. Today, we checked out a spot called Noblewood Park in Willsboro, New York. It's just north of Essex at the mouth of the Boquet River, with forest hiking trails and a beach on Lake Champlain.

A visit to Tiger Kingdom at Mae Rim (near Chiang Mai) was an unforgetable experience, the opportunity to enter the tiger enclosures and meet the big cats themselves was truly amazing! (Having spent quality time with elephants the day before we'd thought nothing could top that, but we were wrong!).

The tigers are kept in separate caged enclosures according to age group, so that one may become acquainted with the younger and half grown cats before meeting the fully grown beasts! To be able to sit with them and stroke them was wonderful, and far closer to petting a domestic cat than we'd imagined!

The tigers are used to people so there's no sense of threat, though obviously there are strict guidelines as to how to approach them and which areas to stroke and which not to (else they'd think you wanted to play, and of course tigers play rough!). We found ouselves lapsing into the same body language and soft speech we use at home with normal cats, much to the amusement of the staff!

I have always been a cat lover, but never imagined I'd encounter cats of this size! They may be some of Nature's most feared predators, but I just couldn't stop saying how beautiful they were!

Seen on the Maharajah Jungle Trek in Asia at Disney's Animal Kingdom. I was wearing my Judy Hopps ears and the tiger stared right at me and started walked up to the edge to stare me down.

It took more than five years and multiple visits to several national parks to capture my dream shot. I am dedicating this image to Ankit Desai, a friend and mentor, for always being there.

I really enjoy visiting the Amur tiger section at Longleat, as I find them extremely beautiful animals. The tigers at Longleat are well looked after, and the zoo keepers are very good at feeding times as they occasionally hide the meat in the branches of trees so that when the tigers are let into their enclosure they have to search for their food.

Amur tigers are fully mature and able to mate from 4 years of age. Their cubs are born small, helpless and blind and depend on their mother for safety and for the mother’s milk. Tiger cubs grow very fast and will be almost 4 times their original size after just one month.

The Amur tiger is also known as the Siberian tiger, and are considered to be the largest of all of the big cats. They have many stripes; however no two tigers have the same stripe pattern. Amur tigers are now protected by law in the wild and are linked to conservation projects

The tigers in Sariska are tagged so the rangers know approximately where they are at any given time. Number Six was said to be “just over that hill”, so we headed in that direction. No sign. Just as we were turning round to go out of the park, we met a tourist jeep who claimed to have seen him, so the guide told us to “hold on tight” and we set off at break neck speed up the hill. Sure enough, there behind the trees was a tiger. You could only just about make him out through the foliage.

After a couple of minutes the tiger got up and started walking along, bored with lying camouflaged in the jungle. The driver anticipated where he would come out on the road, and he was right.

Without a single glance at our Jeep, the tiger nonchalantly walked along the road, where we followed him for several minutes. Occasionally he would stop and sniff (smell the flowers?) or mark his territory.

Around the last bend we spotted a man (possibly a ranger) on foot in the road ahead. We tried to signal to him to go back, but he was taking no notice of us, nor had he seen the tiger. Then the tiger spotted him too, and the driver shouted as loud as I have ever heard any man shout, with the rest of us joining in for good measure. That did the trick - it scared both the man and the tiger. The man ran off and the tiger turned to see where the noise came from and automatically made a charge. The driver slammed the car into reverse, but the tiger changed his mind and jumped back up into the jungle again. Just as well as we were only about 20 metres away at this time, in an open Jeep.

We could still see him in amongst the trees, and followed him as far as we could before he went further into the jungle, heading for the waterhole; and we rushed off to get to the gates before they closed at 18:00.

What an exciting afternoon!

This is India, a blind white tiger who is a resident of the Exotic Feline Rescue Center. Her blindness is a result of the inbreeding used to produce the white coat. India's owner got rid of her because she wasn't "white enough" to be good breeding stock.
