I smell humans. Is it time for afternoon tea? So says Asim, London Zoo's male Sumatran Tiger. A few months before I captured this, Asim attacked and killed a fellow female Sumatran Tiger.

Male Sumatran tiger "Jae Jae" at ZSL London Zoo and red admiral butterfly.

Story: Whilst getting a detailed shot of Jae Jae, I noticed a butterfly that was very close to the tiger.

In my imagination, the red admiral had landed on the tiger. So, I took a capture of the butterfly (on a plant) and then created this bit of 'whimsy'.

Tiger safari is not for everyone; certainly not for the type “A” persons and for those not willing to rough it out in the jungle. After going through two tiring and tortuous Safaris in the scorching heat of Ranthambhore, we sighted the famous female tiger officially known as T17, but for admirers the “Lady of the Lake” on our third try. She is the daughter of the famous “Machhli”. Her territory includes the Rajbagh lake and most of the area covered by tourist Zone 3 and part of Zone 4. Here is one of the first shots taken. Here she stopped in her tracks to consider a sambhar deer. Location, Mandook in Zone3, Ranthambhore.

A flicker of the unmistakable coat through the jungle... And then your jaw drops and a hush descends as the entire forest watches her...

Tiger Territory, home to critically-endangered Sumatran tigers, is now open at ZSL London Zoo, where the 186-year-old site has undergone a massive redevelopment to make way for the 2,500sqm (27,000sqft) enclosure. Five times the size of the previous tiger enclosure, the new exhibit has been designed with ZSL’s team of tiger keepers, conservationists and experts to ensure that it perfectly suits the big cats’ needs.

The parents of the two cubs are Melati and her mate Jae Jae. (There is another cub, not shown in the video)

Melati was born at Perth Zoo, Australia and Jae Jae was born at San Francisco Zoo. He later went to Akron Zoo, Ohio before moving to London. This international travel is part of an organised breeding programme for this critically endangered species.

This is my first go at editing a video and adding a soundtrack. The cubs are, of course, very popular, so the original ambient background noise was very loud. The decibel level of excited children knows no bounds!

Thanks for all views.

Tigers are excellent climbers and like to observe their terrain from a towering vantage point and Tiger Territory allows them to do just that. The exhibit features tall trees for the cats to scale and high feeding poles to encourage their natural predatory behaviours.

Note: You can spot Jae Jae in the water, after he'd had a swim!

Thanks for all views and the fave adds
