Over 2000 years old, Chinese acrobatics is one of the best tourist deals in town. Though the price tag is hefty (RMB 180 for the good seats) by China standards, it is well worth the experience. You wouldn't have seen anything like it before.
We went to the Tianqiao Acrobatics Theater. It is located west of the Temple of Heaven park. It is a 100 year old theater where the Beijing Acrobatic Troupe performs. It's supposed to be less touristy than other venues - and it was.
This was one of the most amazing performances during the show - both the flexibility and impossible balancing act. Of course, the rest of the show was also full of 'oohs' and 'aahs' and not stop clapping.
Check out the whole set - Fascinating China.
Beijing, China
2008
More trolleybuses parked up "off grid" in the interpeak on Tianqiao South Street. The first two and fourth in the distance are parked up. The third one on route 105 squeezed in past the fourth and will depart through a gap behind the first two.
One dude seems to be on his phone - a dodgy practice whilst driving at the best of times but in Beijing it is positively suicidal.
There are various cycle hire schemes in beijing. Often bikes are just dumped at the side of the road or block the pavement.
I was at 大明湖 Daming Lake working on my 中國旅遊 中国旅游 China Tourism photography series but I was fascinated with the diversity of transportation methods on the 明湖西路 Minghu West Road near the entrance.
There are no traffic lights on the road and the only way to cross it is to brave it over—and it is difficult. The video shows how an old man does it, and it takes quite a bit of effort.

A BK6141D2 14m front-engine non-air-conditioning articulated bus built by Jinghua, Beijing
Look at this cute articulated bus. BK6141D2 is the last mass-produced front-engine articulated bus ordered by BPT. After BK6141D2 and its sibling Huanghai DD6140S01 in 2005, BPT was no longer interested in any, however luxury, front-engine buses.
While its big brother, the 18m BK6180D2 and D3, have an official but informal name "Dacaishen" (Big Lord of Wealth) from the builder, Jinghua, 6141D2, which has very similar, iconic headlamps, was certainly named "Xiaocaishen" (Little Lord of Wealth). Xiaocaishen features a smaller grille and thicker front bumper (Dacaishen has actually no front bumper), but the same tail and the same distinct black glass under the windows. Seen far away, Xiaocaishen is entirely a shrunk version of its brother.
6141D2 shares the same chassis, actually and the entire power train, with its sibling DD6140S01. Built on a FAW (First Automobile Works of China) chassis with simple multi-leaf suspension, 6141D2 is powered by a 210hp IVECO F4AE0682D*C Euro III diesel engine that works with an Allison T270R. There are not many essential improvements between Xiaocaishen and its predecessor, Little Cruisers (BK6141D and D1), but the newer one looks modern with frameless windows and 275/70R22.5 tubeless tyres. Three doors are all with three steps; the thoroughly-flat floor with ordinary rubber surface is 850mm above ground.
With robust chassis and reliable power train, the quality of D2s is about average. 14m length makes them extremely nimble on narrow streets and at tight corners. Regretfully, front-engine buses provide unsufficient comfort due to excessive heat and noise; additionally the high floor is also annoying. Although later Jinghua built a upgraded air-sprung, semi low floor BK6141D3, BPT, the mother company of Jinghua, decided to stop ordering new front-engine articulated buses, a few years after the last front-engine rigid joined service. Xiaocaishens are originally allocated to Division 2 (150), 4 (135), 6 (30), 7 (70) and Trolley-buses (5).
In the picture, Fleet No. 44213 (BPT Division 4, diesel articulated bus, code 213) on Line 15 is turning right to north onto South Lishi Road at Lishi Road South Crossing on Chang'an Avenue, near Fuxingmen Bridge on West 2nd Ring Road. At this crossing, unlike Baiyun Road Crossing, even buses are not allowed to turn left from South Lishi Road to Chang'an Avenue. Southbound Line 15 buses proceed straight south, make a circle at Zhenwumiao area, and turn right onto Chang'an Avenue at the crossing west from Lishi Road South.
Line 15 is an important line of Division 4 and it reaches the southern city, far away from the division's main service region. North end of Line 15 is Beijing Zoo where Division 4 is dominant, while the south end is Tianqiao Department Store, surrounded by lines of Divsion 2. Line 7, 15 and 19 all start at Beijing Zoo, go to southern Beijing and use the same BK6141D2 while Line 7 and 19 are under Division 2. Fleet No. 44213 is a Beijing Youth Model honor bus unit.
天坛 (Tian Tan)
The Temple of Heaven is situated in the southern part of Beijing, about 6 Km away from the center of the city. Traditionally, this temple was for imperial use only. It was built in 1420, covering an area of 273 hectares; it is the one of the largest parks in Beijing.
The Temple of Heaven was the place where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties worshipped heaven and prayed for good harvests. The emperors visited the temple three times a year: on the 8th day of the first lunar month to pray for a good harvest; during the Summer Solstice to pray for rain; and during Winter Solstice to give thanks for a good harvest. During each ceremony, the emperors worshipped heaven and prayed for a good harvest. In addition, the emperors also worshipped their ancestors and other natural phenomena such as the Cloud God, Rain God and Wind God.
In imperial days, the Chinese people believed that the sky was in circular shape and the earth was square. On the basis of this traditional concept, the circle was widely adopted in the design of the temple's main building. It is in accord with people's imagination of heaven.
During past ceremonies each year, the Emperor left the Forbidden City through the Front Gate for the Temple of Heaven. No common people or foreigners were allowed to watch the Emperor's procession to the temple. They had to remain hidden behind closed doors and windows. Even women, including the Empress, were not allowed to take part in the procession

A type XML6129E1A "Golden Dragon King" 12m (11,985mm, 39.3 ft.) ultra-high-deck touring coach built by Xiamen Golden Dragon Bus Co., Ltd.
The Golden Dragon King of Bafangda is powered by a imported Cummins type ISCe330 30 8.3L 300PS (221kW, 296hp) Euro III diesel engine. A domestic Qijiang-ZF 6-speed mechanical transmission is coupled to the engine and a domestic magnetic (eddy-current) retarder is attached to the output end of the transmission. Both axles are domestic Fangsheng products fitted with Neway air suspension; the rear suspension is a trailing-arm type with two air bellows. Drum brakes are fitted on both axles. The steering system is a Sheppard product.
Acquired in 2004, the Golden Dragon King (XML6129E1A and the identical XML6129E11) quickly proved to be the king of the fleet just as its name suggested. It was then the most luxurious coach owned by Bafangda, offering incomparable comfort and impressive power. All Golden Dragon Kings were allocated to Tianqiao Division (now Fangshan Division) and dispatched on inter-provincial express routes. In 2007, Bafangda acquired XML6127E2, a newer and more powerful ultra-high-deck coach; however the latter lagged behind XML6129E1A/E11 in comfort. Not until 2008 had Bafangda introduced a comparable touring coach, King Long type XMQ6129Y3 "The Dragon Majesty", the then most advanced product by King Long. XMQ6129Y3 supersedes XML6129E1A/E11 in riding comfort by the refined air suspension (four air bellows on the rear axle), but lacks the "riding high" pride due to its lowered deck.
