In the foreground, is one of the 54 gods, which stand on the left side of the causeway to Angkor Thom. The right hand side of the causeway has 54 demons. There are 5 monumental gates, each 20m high, around the city. You can see the South gate in the background.
Angkor Thom is a fortified city, which was built by Angkor's greatest king, Jayavarman VII (1181-1219). The wall is 8m high and 12km in length and is encircled by a moat that is 100m wide. At its height, the city supported a population of one million. This is amazing considering the population of London at the same time was only 50,000.
Even the remains of this city are spectacular and a sight to behold.

"this is the key point about thresholds: they are not the place of life and not the place of death. in their narrow confines you may find fantasy, memory, dream, anxiety, miracle, intuition, and magic. these are the means by which the deep soul prospers..." - thomas moore
dear friends!! let us honor the thresholds that we encounter in this life... let us bring to them our attention, and our love.
may all travelers find joy!!

This is the solstice, the still point
of the sun, its cusp and midnight,
the year's threshold
and unlocking, where the past
lets go of and becomes the future;
the place of caught breath, the door
of a vanished house left ajar.
----Margaret Atwood
It's by far and away the worst morning I've known
the pain shuddering through me
a foothold has become a stranglehold
afflicting every sematic stance by degree
heedless is the peering Sun at heel
illuminating what fatigue is unable to conceal
vigour is now debited hourly beyond it's own means
by all accounts a bleak outlook indeed
experts and forecasts, merchandising gloom
the command of hope is fearful to concede
a glimmer of doubt in failure's redemption-
of health, spirit and soul's utter preemption
this heelical nerve-ending is losing favour
with a touch it once noted as idealistic
today it's message is clear and understood;
pain is ascending the crown of agonising characteristic
narratory tracts remain in place to vent frustration
without which the outlook would be beyond salvation
oh this teasing pain circumnavigates my mind
unrelenting in it's search for a fatal blow
by blow account of screwing-up my health
isolating memories of happy days long ago
sopor is my friend, and it's there I shall return
for it's a place of peace and absolutely no concern.

Hope smiles from the threshold of the year to come, whispering, 'It will be happier.'

I'm hoping to have another go with this compo with some different light. Not the best when I was there, but sometimes you just have to make-do.

Never have I found the limits of the photographic potential. Every horizon, upon being reached, reveals another beckoning in the distance. Always, I am on the threshold.

Readings are normal but I can feel pressure building.
Copy. That's phantom pressure, Major Joe. It will not show up on the instruments.
Sounds too. Strange sounds. Really strange sounds.
Copy. You're about to experience something alien to everything we've known. Words will fail you, Major Joe. Threshold in T minus 18 seconds.
It's building. I feel... like I'm being compressed and pulled apart at the same time... here it is... I'll talk again soon, or never again.
Copy. Godspeed, Major Joe.

Keepsake Ornament
GI Joe Action Pilot
Handcrafted
2000
From the box back:
"G.I. Joe - the first real action figure you could identify with - joined the space program in 1967.
This Keepsake Ornament shows the Action Pilot outfitted with essential items from the original set: a space suit with flag insignia, dog tags, helmet, space boots, space gloves, chest pack, and tether cord.
G.I. Joe even has a space camera!
To see the astronaut at work in space, suspend this ornament from a branch on your tree or from a mantel or bookshelf.
Look closely and you'll find an authenticating mark: a slight scar on the face.
Sculpted by Ken Crow."
... that moment between light and dark, chaos and order, when all is still. It lasts but a few exhales but that's where the magic happens. Think of all the situations, stories, life lessons... without that moment, that Threshold, they simply disappear into nothingness.
After a swim in a chilly morning water I set up my rig to picture the same surreal scene, for I moment I'm lost in a thought, it suddenly feels like I've melted into one with the surrounding and time lost its meaning.
