THRESHOLD MOMENT is the topic for Saturday July 1th 2023 Group Our Daily Challenge

🇬🇧 Stillness and presence.

In the quiet frame of a monastery door, a man stands — priest, guardian, or passerby — caught in the space between silence and sound, shadow and sun.

This is not a portrait. It’s a threshold.

The blurred line between vocation and solitude. Between faith and the world outside.

Hacienda Chautla, Puebla.

I had the pleasure of spending an entire day with my father on a trip to La Push, WA. I don't get to see him much, and when I asked to see if he wanted to head out and go to the coast, I was elated that he said 'sure'! We both enjoy photography, so we both enjoyed trying to photograph the scenery. This photo was obviously taken near the end of a full day of shooting, while I was trying to show him how to take a long exposure photograph. Sadly, my dad's memory is fading, and I don't know how many more of these kinds of days I will have left with him. Understandably, I treasure these memories immensely. Even if this photo was my worst work, I would likely still love it just for the memories I have associated with it.

Anyway, any and all thoughts/criticisms as welcome!

Enjoy :)

Overcoming the team water thresholds in training

Standing tall in front of the awe-inspiring Kailasa Temple at Ellora, the Victory Pillar (Dhwajastambha) is more than just an architectural element—it is a symbol of spiritual conquest and imperial devotion. Carved from a single rock in the 8th century under the patronage of Rashtrakuta king Krishna I, the Kailasa Temple is one of the greatest monolithic structures in the world. The Victory Pillar marks the sacred threshold to this grand temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, celebrating not just military victories, but also the triumph of dharma (righteousness) over chaos.

The doorway and its reflection create a double threshold – leading from the outside in, and from reality into a mirrored world.

What fascinated me in this image was the meeting of two worlds – the heavy, historic door and its quiet reflection in the water. I wanted to capture that fleeting moment where reality and its mirror come together to form something in between. For me, this threshold is not just architectural, but symbolic – between inside and outside, past and present. The light moving across the stones feels like it brushes against history itself. Perhaps it’s in these in-between spaces that we truly start to see.

"It is wise in your own life to be able to recognize and acknowledge the key thresholds; to take your time; to feel all the varieties of presence that accrue there; to listen inward with complete attention until you hear the inner voice calling you forward. The time has come to cross."

--- John O'Donohue

Old weathered building facade in Callington, South Australia. I really liked the worn whitewash, visible lintels and that you can see the original construction methods.
