Farm animals are sometimes adopted, so the sanctuary will have room for other animals that need rescue. Sanctuaries are very careful to make sure that a new home will provide the best life for an adoptee. In the case of the Three Musketeers, all three would have to be adopted together. In autumn 2011 a very nice person who worked with Catskill Animal Sanctuary, and who had enough room, and a horse and goat, adopted Cupid, Patrick and Phineas. Here they are at their new home. As usual, Cupid keeps an eye on me while his partners graze. I am grateful to this person for allowing me to come and take these photos.
Phineas- the other two members of the trio Patrick and Cupid are behind me. This photo was taken in the spring, when a sheep's winter wool is removed, to keep them cool. Phineas and his fellow "musketeers" were free range at this time, meaning that they could wander where they wanted at the sanctuary. Catskill Animal Sanctuary is in Saugerties NY. www.casanctuary.org
As usual, I'm not sure which sheep is which. Cupid and his new friend Billy look very similar as well. The clue? Billy is between Cupid and the sheep. Cupid's left ear has white fur on it, and Billy's left ear is all brown. Patrick, Phineas and Cupid got along with Billy and Lollipop the Horse (way over on the right) right away. www.casanctuary.org
June 22, 2023 - Escalier Monumental (Monumental Staircase) “The monumental staircase, completed in 1863, links the historic town to the new town over a 35 m drop with 234 steps (374 in total with double flights).
On the first landing in front of the fountain, there has been a contemporary sculpture since 1992: “the Observatory of Time” by Catalan artist Jaume Plensa. The engraved text is the biblical evocation of the Flood and recalls the catastrophic floods that ravaged the city in 1977. The glass eye, like a symbolic lookout, scans the sky. The other part of the work: “the impossible shelter” is at the end of the footbridge on the opposite bank.
From the lower landing, beautiful view over the Gers valley. On the southern horizon, behind the line of the hills, we can see, on a clear day, the chain of the Pyrenees.
On the landing, lower down, the bronze statue, the work of Michelet, bears the effigy of the most famous of the Gascon people: Charles de Batz, better known under the name of d'Artagnan, Captain of the King's Musketeers, born at the castle of Castelmore in Lupiac, a village located about forty kilometers from Auch."
