Taken recently at the Huntington Beach Pier, I think of the series of shots I took that night that this portrays the sky and its building storm clouds the best.

"Amani", a female spot necked otter (Hydrictis maculicollis) was accidently woken from her nap by a rude person (me). Her cozy hammock, located on the island in the middle of her pool, is well equipped with cozy burlap and other otter ammenities. Spot necked otters are native to sub-Saharan Africa where they live in lakes and larger rivers. Amani's home is at the San Diego Zoo.

The sky looked promising for something like out of "The Wizard of Oz", nope; just a big tease! 10 day forecast hot and dry, triple digit temps possible for the weekend. Very disappointed.
A threatening elephant eared chameleon with its mouth open. Also known as the short horned chameleon.
Its a fantastic experience just watching this amazing creature in its natural habitat.
The eye is simply amazing as it rotates around in all direction, here it is looking down and the other eye can rotate in a different direction independently.
Many thanks for your visit, comments, invites and favs..it is always appreciated.
Happy Friday
The morning started out promising, but a strong wind developed, and the sky darkened. It was very cold and the few people at the park had already left. I was still about a mile from my car, but I stopped to take this picture. Just as I arrived at my car, the sky opened up with a torrential downpour. It rained during the ride home, but as I came close to home, the rain stopped. The streets in my neighborhood were dry; it had not rained there. My wife greeted me: "Home so soon? :-)
The Asian Golden Cat, also called Temminck’s Golden Cat, is a “near threatened” species which is difficult to see in the wild. It has head-to-body length of 66–105 cm (26–41 in), with a 40–57 cm (16–22 in) long tail. It weighs between 9 and 16 kg (20 to 35 lb), which is about two or three times that of a domestic cat (Felis catus). They are native to the northeastern Indian subcontinent and southeast Asia.
There are only two of these cats in the UK and just a handful in captivity in Europe. I’m grateful to Dr Terry Moore, Honorary Director of the Cat Survival Trust, a charity which houses an array of species for education and conservation purposes, for giving me special access to take this photograph.

With this imposing threatening gesture, the greenfinch scares away other male competitors, as it is in courtship display and they are just annoying.

The Steller sea lion (Eumetopias jubatus), also known as the Steller's sea lion and northern sea lion, is a near-threatened species of sea lion in the northern Pacific. It is the sole member of the genus Eumetopias and the largest of the eared seals (Otariidae). Among pinnipeds, it is inferior in size only to the walrus and the two species of elephant seals. The species is named for the naturalist Georg Wilhelm Steller, who first described them in 1741. The Steller sea lion has attracted considerable attention in recent decades, owing to significant and largely unexplained declines in their numbers over an extensive portion of their northern range in Alaska. (Wikipedia)
We saw several groups of these sea lions during our trip, but these two little islands were the most densely packed. The animals at the junction of the rocks would periodically be washed over by crashing waves.

A beautiful and uncommon bulbul endemic to Southern India. They are found in scrub habitats around rocky hills and currently classified as "Vulnerable" in the IUCN list due to their habitats being constantly threatened. These birds are found only maybe in a dozen places across the country - all of them in South India. Many of the habitats are under "development" or damaged due to grazing or quarrying. Further, the distribution is highly fragmented making conservation a challenge.
The bird's behaviour is quite similar to the other bulbuls and physically sometimes confused with the white-browed bulbul -- especially the female - which is also found in the same habitat.
I had visited this temple on the edge of a hill that overlooks a forest. In this hot summer where temperatures are already at a record high, birds come to the water drip to grab a few drops of water. We waited there and were fortunate to see some action of these birds - catching insects and drinking water.
Thank you so much in advance for your views, feedback and faves.

Initially, the village church of Pierreclos was next to the castle. You can still see it today: a beautiful Romanesque tower dating from the 12th century, within the walls of the castle (on the left of the castle on the photo) . This is all that remains of the original church, as its nave was burnt down during the Wars of Religion in the 16th century. When the village was built at the foot of the hill on which the castle lays, the villagers wanted to have their own church in the village. The Romanesque tower within the castle walls then became a private chapel. The current church of the village was erected between 1771 and 1779, It replaced a first church closed in 1735 which threatened to collapse.
In the photo, we can make out a third church in the distance behind the castle. This is the church of Serrière, It dates from the 13th century.
