I think I would have preferred to have had the sun rays more central in this image but that is not how the picture happened. As I was walking down the muddy track the sun was being rather subdued until I got to this point then boom, orange sun ray heaven. I did not have long to take a shot as it was over in minutes and the position was the best I could get, moving either side was completely blown out. A reminder that we are at the mercy of natures timing and finding that perfect moment is sometimes just luck :)

We all want electricity, but at least I don't want the power cables in my photos. Even though, I didn't manage to capture this scene as I wanted it without getting them in the frame.

So my only excuse is that this is the truth, the scene I really love on a wonderful day as this also include elements I would rather not see in the view finder.

I had no better idea today than to pick a collection of photos I have captured around this place I call home the last month or so. At least it tells you that winter is still here. We had a couple of inches of snow today, yesterday I woke up to -13C, and it is supposed to be rather cold for some 10 days.

I also added two photos from Bored Panda along with the other pictures in the first comment. One is very cute, the other a collection of three photos so cute it could melt the Arctic!!!

Fishermen and photographers both have better luck if they get out early. Because of this, some photographers are known to go back to bed when the good light is gone. Some even fall asleep outside in one of those canvas folding chairs later in the afternoon. Some very severe examples may exhibit both behaviors. Wishing you a good week ahead and the opportunity to nap in one of those canvas folding chairs (maybe even outside, it's supposed to be a little warmer this week).

Those talons are razor-sharp and ready to strike. Earlier in the day, we saw this hawk swoop down, into the field, and nab a snake.

These flies were very annoying and would bother us when they didn't have birds to bother. I guess these birds don’t have too many feathers on top of their head so it’s easier for the flies to bite them. Jabiru taken in North Pantanal, Brazil.

Barred owl in my back yard and shooting through tree branches. I could get lost in those eyes.

Due to the fact that the wind comes almost from West, the waves become the same direction, from W to E, and wash the sand away

To stop/make less this washout effect, to break the stronght of the waves - that's the reason of this pillars. In the northern part of Zeeland there are beaches , many km long, and there are this pillars, always two lines together, repeating so about 500m. Depending from tide/low tide you can see 2,0m or nothing from them.

Those eyes...

So, those of you who know me, know that I often wander off in the woods and hills for hours on end camera in hand. Unfortunately on this occasion I made every mistake imaginable, wrong kit, kit missing, wrong settings and rushing to catch the light.

At first glance, you may think I’m crazy. The image looks decent enough right? Look closer and I’ll list everything that went wrong with this excursion.

1 - Wrong lens. I have been working with one focal length lately as an exercise to improve composition. This scene would have been so much better on a wide angle, but I only had a 40mm Macro lens with me.

2 – No tripod. I decided to pack light one camera, one lens, no tripod. I normally take a full bags worth of kit on a hike

3 – I shot in Jpg instead of Raw. The previous night I had decided to check the shutter count on my Nikon D7200. For some reason this only works 9only ways I have found to do this) is to upload a jpg to an online service that can then tell you. Foolishly I forgot to change back to Raw before I went out the next day!

4 - Rushing the shot. As it was getting on in the afternoon, the sun was dropping really quickly. I was already on my way out of the woods when i spotted the scene. With the combination of falling light and wrong lens, I rushed to get an image as quickly as I could

While there’s nothing wrong with shooting in jpg format. It really doesn’t leave a lot of editing doors open for a final image. Especially when shooting directly into the sun in a scene like this one. So, I decided to publish this as to always remind me to check and double check everything in the future.

I'e decided I will be writing a blog post to go into more detail about my "faux pas" later this week

I found this cute little opossum huddled up against the foundation of my office this afternoon where the sunshine had warmed those stones earlier in the day. We know that winter is on the way out when the Virginia opossums start roaming around again. They don't hibernate but they hate cold weather and stay in their dens until we get a welcome thaw.

The Baltic Sea and those vacation photos are now finally over;). Long live the Baltic Sea lol. I now finally have time again for other photo projects. Sure, as if I were not already long ago back in Berlin on the road again. 〷(͡° ͜ʖ ͡°҂)
