This bird was standing on one foot, as herons tend to do. I like the view of the resting foot. This bird has some serious claws. Brazos Bend StatePark in SE Texas. 8/2018

Feels like a long lost friend

Yes and hey its good

To be back home again.

Watching this magnificent owl hunting from atop a power pole I had the camera in a portrait orientation to try and catch it as it flew to the ground. Instead it flew across the road and right over my vehicle. A horizontal crop from vertical.

Lyrics

I am not a stranger to the dark

Hide away, they say

'Cause we don't want your broken parts

I've learned to be ashamed of all my scars

Run away, they say

No one'll love you as you are

But I won't let them break me down to dust

I know that there's a place for us

For we are glorious

When the sharpest words wanna cut me down

I'm gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out

I am brave, I am bruised

I am who I'm meant to be, this is me

Look out 'cause here I come

And I'm marching on to the beat I drum

I'm not scared to be seen

I make no apologies, this is me

Oh-oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh, oh

Another round of bullets hits my skin

Well, fire away 'cause today, I won't let the shame sink in

We are bursting through the barricades and

Reaching for the sun (we are warriors)

Yeah, that's what we've become (yeah, that's what we've become)

I won't let them break me down to dust

I know that there's a place for us

For we are glorious

When the sharpest words wanna cut me down

I'm gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out

I am brave, I am bruised

I am who I'm meant to be, this is me

Look out 'cause here I come

And I'm marching on to the beat I drum

I'm not scared to be seen

I make no apologies, this is me

Oh-oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh, oh

This is me

and I know that I deserve your love

(Oh-oh-oh-oh) 'cause there's nothing I'm not worthy of

(Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh, oh)

When the sharpest words wanna cut me down

I'm gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out

This is brave, this is proof

This is who I'm meant to be, this is me

Look out 'cause here I come (look out 'cause here I come)

And I'm marching on to the beat I drum (marching on, marching, marching on)

I'm not scared to be seen

I make no apologies, this is me

When the sharpest words wanna cut me down

I'm gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out

I'm gonna send a flood

Gonna drown them out

Oh

This is me

There are several Sufi orders in Senegal.

The Xaadir (Qādiriyya) is the oldest and founded in Baghdad by the Sufi mystic Abdul Qādir al-Jilānī in the 12th century, now pan-Islamic, spread to Senegal in the 18th Century.

His portrait is at the far left, with his name in Arabic :

عبدالقادر الجيلاني

The members of this family probably belong to this Muslim brotherhood.

The most important brotherhoods in Senegal are:

- The Xaadir (Qādiriyya), the oldest, founded in Baghdad by the Sufi mystic Abdul Qādir al-Jilānī in the 12th century, spread to Senegal in the 18th Century.

- The Tijaniyyah, the largest in membership, founded in Fez, Morocco by the Algerian born Cheikh Sīdī 'Aḥmad at-Tijānī.

- The Mourides, the richest and most active, founded by the Islamic leader Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba (1850–1927) of French West Africa, now Senegal.

- The Layene are a smaller Sufi order, centered at Yoff, north of Dakar.

I will try to found out about the other portraits, but I had understood that they were Gilani's son and grandson. ( no, I don't think so)

If you know, let me know!

We are in the old mining town of Derby today, and this abandoned old house is a metaphor for what has happened to the place. But Derby lives on in another form and is thriving in its own way. We'll see that over the next few days. But the old Derby is gone, as has the family that once occupied this house.

One can only speculate on the life that once turned this house into a home. But there is a song that captures something of the spirit in this photograph. It was sung by Dinah Washington (1924-1963) in the 1950s and has been newly arranged with her vocals by Max Richter on his incredible album, "On the Nature of Daylight".

"This bitter earth

Well, what fruit it bears

What good is love

mmmm that no one shares

And if my life is like the dust

oooh that hides the glow of a rose

What good am I

Heaven only knows

Lord, this bitter earth

Yes, can be so cold

Today you're young

Too soon, you're old

But while a voice within me cries

I'm sure someone may answer my call

And this bitter earth

Ooooo may not

Oh be so bitter after all"

What's to be said? C'est la vie. And perhaps to shed a tear.

Thank you all for taking the time to view, like and comment on our work, we appreciate the support very much.

Something a little different this time.

The almost hundred years old Haveli belonging to my husband Sanjay's family in a village near Mathura in the state of Uttar Pradesh. When I got married some twenty years back this ancestral Haveli was full of life and laughter as many families belonging to Sanjay's extended family lived here.I remember spending many happy hours here on our yearly visits to the village with Sanjay and his parents.Unfortunately with the passage of time most of these families have built their own little quarters elsewhere in the village or moved to the cities.Only one family lives in the room to the right. The graceful old Haveli is now almost a desolate ruin.I took this shot on a recent visit. We were passing the huge gates which were half open and I entered on an impulse and clicked this photo. It was almost dark when I clicked it.

This is another shot from Grasmere Lake on a very still September evening. I wanted to capture the concentric circles around the Swan. I used HDR again from a single RAW image.

Eigentlich wollte ich dieses Bild als Schlusspunkt unter die Serie setzen, aber da nun schon ein paar Aufnahmen von "the Eye" hier gezeigt worden sind, soll euch diese nicht vorenthalten bleiben.

I love this song

Wish you all a wonderful weekend!

Don't wake me, I'm still dreaming, I don't feel you, I can't feel you.. I'm alone for real in my mind, I don't wanna see the light of day, why do you hurt me? This reality.....

Kaka, đi ra shop thấy cưng qé mà rẻ nữa rinh về 3 4 cái luôn >:) =))

Lily was missing, presumed dead for 6 months. A vet from roughly 40 miles away called one day to tell my son that she had been found - so he went to fetch her. She was fit, and well, well fed with a lovely sleek coat. So many question marks? We wondered if Thea had been a little too rough with her, and she decided to leave, or if she was too curious and found herself inside a travelling van.....

The flowering quince made it through sleet & snow flurries, high winds and below freezing temps. One of the joys of Winter. And - our Yellow-throated warbler is still here - this is Day 26!

One from the archives - just one I've always had a soft spot for :o))

A walk in the park along a little stream. Colorful leaves all over, a little bridge on the background, a very peaceful scene. This is Autumn.
