a couple of pigeons

Couples usually only stay together for one season. The courtship flight of the wood pigeon is very striking. Such a flight is made up of a steep ascent flight (in which they clap their wings loudly at the highest point), followed by a descending gliding phase. Wood pigeons make their nests in the most impossible places. On the thinnest twig of a tree, they sometimes spend days building a nest, no more than a thin net of twigs. If the nest falls down, they start again. Wood pigeons can raise up to six clutches per year and nesting birds can be seen in almost all months of the year.

The Garden cross spider (Araneus diadematus) is a common and delightful sight that is found in gardens.

Cross spiders can only penetrate human skin at its thinnest points with their bite. The bite is only unpleasant and medically without long-term consequences, but it can cause clearly noticeable symptoms

Macro Mondays: Translucent.

If I've id this correctly, it is a Prince mushroom (Agaricus augustus). It is edible, and can grow to a cap size of 16" with a stalk up to 14". The ones in this group were not up to that size. Apparently it's sweet scent is that of almonds, though I didn't quite catch that myself.

This week was so busy, that I was not actually planning a MM shot. During a break; however, I went on a mushroom hunt with my camera. When I saw this one kicked over, I decided to have some fun with it, side-lighting it with my Moman (from the left). It wasn't until I uploaded, that I realized it would perfectly fit the MM theme, as the light was emanating through the thinnest parts of the gill's edges (more obvious on the gills to the center and right of the frame where the shadow of the previous gill shows, but the light shines through the 'bottom' edge to highlight the unlit side with a beautiful glow)!

To all my Canadian follower: Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

(As I wasn't thinking of MM, I had to go back to make sure my frame was under 3". If you feel like counting, I measured ~14 gills per 1/2" on this fungi, making the whole frame well under the limit for the group).

You never asked me what else lingered. And in my haste to stand on solid ground, I never quite told you. I never quite gave you the recount of what else I carry with me.

Like the unshakable feeling of walking on thin ice – the creaking, the cracking, the visible fractures expanding with every footfall. The fear of the ice giving in, the fear of the frozen dark waters underneath consuming me whole, inhabited by someone else’s monsters of the deep. The apprehension, like a living, breathing creature, sucking the air out and exhaling black, oppressive smoke that made it impossible to see or even breathe.

There’s an omnipresence to it– it echoes in the deepest recesses of my consciousness. Well and truly embedded, that I am robbed of any certainty as to my recoil – is it the memory, or the actual sound? Is it a treacherous footstep, or the imagination of one? Has my foot truly gone through – is it touching those dark waters – or is it just that odd precipice like a night start or a lucid dream?

And there it was, a sense of dread you instilled. A clamping, silencing proverbial hand, because so much as a breath threatened to break the ice…

Yet it broke anyway. Not fractured by my weight, nor by a whisper of an exhale. It was the things that lurked beneath, rearing their heads. I’d glimpsed them, ghost-like, through the thinnest ice. I’d heard their wails. I knew they existed as surely as I knew I existed. And now I saw them, free at long last.

They’d been ravenous, and now they demand to be fed.

Do you truly begrudge me the aversion to being cannibalized by your monsters?

Here is the 4th capture of the moon I took when it was well in the night and overhead, through the thinnest amount of atmosphere.

This March 712 was driven by James Hunt in 1972 at the Rothmans 50, held at Brands Hatch (a non-championship race) where he finished 5th (2nd in class). Emerson Fittipaldi won the race in the F1 category, driving a Lotus 72D Ford.

What I particularly like about this car is the delicacy of those mirrors, attached with the thinnest of fixings arranged in that triangular formation.

Happy Wing Wednesday!

On Halloween, the membranes between life, death and the many alternate worlds and planes of existence we share space with are at their thinnest and the horrors of the in-between, as well as many other nasties, are freer to move about and enter our reality.... Be careful out there!

“We are adrift, and the thinnest breeze may blow us where it will.”

Nothing to do with the war movie - but this sunrise on the Murray River in Mannum was small, brief and intense. It was the thinnest little line of colour low on the horizon and lasted just 30 seconds before fading to a dull grey morning. The clouds clearly won the battle with the sun this time!

Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!

Bubble solution can be slippery, tricky to photograph, but a blessing when the sunlight and film come together for a split second. That's when all the paisley globs of film start sliding to the thinnest part of the substance. As they make their colorful way, an orange background reminds me that the bubbles is almost ready to burst. Talk about trying to manually focus quickly. It's small game hunting at its best!

A Red-winged Blackbird perches on the small piece of a cattail and calls just before sunset.

This piece explores the quiet, dreamlike atmosphere that rises over the dunes before sunrise. In this moment, light has no edge and shadow has no weight—just a gentle breath moving across sand and shaping a single curved line. I am studying the subtle, poetic transitions where form dissolves into luminosity.

I shot this well before sunrise on the Mesquite Dunes, this composition drawing me in with its quiet, almost weightless geometry. In the soft pre-dawn light, the dune’s curve felt less like a physical form and more like a breath suspended between shadow and first light. Throughout the editing process, I sought to preserve that fragile stillness: the velvet shadows, the gentle transitions, and the dreamlike atmosphere that appears only in the thinnest margin between night and morning.

A male American kestrel (Falco sparverius) perched on the thinnest of branches. This beautiful bird obliged me a better look by switching the sides of the tree it was on, though truthfully it was working to get a better look at some unknown prey- it was certainly locked on to something, probably a vole.

Fun fact:- Thermals help these birds to reach incredible heights, most of which would be deadly to other species of birds. A series of cardio-vascular adaptations means that vultures are able to fly at heights where oxygen levels are at their thinnest, with one particular Ruppell’s griffon vulture reaching almost 11.5 kilometres!

Cossack woman of Kashira region with handmade scarves. Orenburgsky downy scarf - one of the symbols of Russia. Downy crochet craft originated in the Orenburg region about 250 years ago, in the XVIII century. Orenburg downy shawls abroad were first introduced at the Paris International Exhibition of 1857. Thus, Orenburg shawl reached the international level and there was recognition. In 1862, the London exhibition Orenburg Cossack Uskova MN received a medal "For shawls from goat down. Down Orenburg goats - the thinnest in the world: the thickness of down Orenburg goats - 16-18 microns, angora goats (mohair) - 22-24 microns. Therefore products from the Orenburg down - shawls and cobweb - especially gentle and soft.

I shot this some time ago (see EXIF!), but it is one that stayed in my mind. While I was pursuing birds with my 400L lens this Oak leaf brushed against my head. My goodness!! The leaf was held up by the thinnest strand of spider web.

According to true believers, around the time of Halloween and DÍa de los Muertos, the separation between the corporal and spiritual worlds is at its thinnest. Día de los Muertos isn't about collecting candy, it's about honoring those lost. I saw the ritual dances of Danza Azteca Taxca Yoloztl performed at MECA.

Swamps, even the very thought of them, often evoke primitive fear and give rise to legends and speculation among people. They really contain a lot of amazing things - incredible space, immersed in ringing silence, colorful moss cover, proud lonely pines and rare almost transparent dwarf birches. This is a world where sky and earth are inseparable, where the same clouds and the same sun are visible in the swamp mirrors on the bizarrely shaped surface of the water. I stopped at this lake, whose bulge shape attracted me, to drink coffee, and at that moment it started to rain again. I had to take a raincoat out of my backpack instead of a thermos, somewhere inside I was irritated: I was unlucky with the dawn, the weather had some objections to shooting, and I couldn’t even drink coffee when I wanted! It was with these thoughts that I rustled my raincoat irritably until I heard a strange sound that completely absorbed my attention, and I won’t even try to describe it. I stood and was afraid to move, so as not to miss this sound, which either intensified or almost disappeared. It was the rain that sang and its microphone was the thinnest ice on this lake. When the rain stopped, I felt ashamed of my irritation.

Letters written but can never be sent.

Time blurs when you grieve.

It’s almost as if you are hanging on by the thinnest of ropes, dangling over the deep dark depths of despair.

For you, my first born daughter, how I miss you.

I wore orange today, because it was your favourite colour.

The jeans I chose made me smile a little because I would remember all the times you said “mum please dont wear those torn jeans, you’re too old”

I styled my hair the way it always was when life was so very different.

It was a life that I failed to realise was perfect until it ended.

As I dangle here by one fragile grasp, I think of you, I think of how different all our lives would be now.

All I can do at these times is to feel blessed that you left behind a part of yourself to continue on.

When this thread becomes very weak and feels as though it is breaking I hold onto the love from the family that I have left.

Memories are fragile. Memories are precious.

Landscape Arch is a natural arch eroded in Entrada Sandstone. Natural bow arches are considered old and near the end of their life cycle. At its thinnest section, the arch is only 6 feet thick but supports a rock span 290 feet long. In fact, this arch could collapse at any time.

On September 1, 1991, a 73-foot slab of rock falls out from under the thinnest section of the span. However, the stone that fell was probably not structurally important to the arch. In fact, the arch was probably strengthened by reducing the weight of the floating rock.

On June 5, 1995, a 47-foot mass of rock fell from the face of the arch's thinnest section, followed by another 30-foot rockfall on June 21. Due to these events, the park service has closed the circular path that once led under the arch.

I started crocheting Amigirumi in October last year. I read about it and it seemed like a challenge for me to give it a try. So I bought yarn and started crocheting. At least, after studying the description and the meaning of the abbreviations. After much practice, it got better and better. I have already crocheted several figures and am now trying mini and micro crochet. That is crocheting with the thinnest crochet hook and embroidery thread and sewing thread. This takes a lot of patience.

With embroidery thread I crocheted this mini bear (Tiny Timmy)

I hope it turned out a bit.

Torn

I tore the web

of a black and yellow spider

in the brash of weeds

and down she came

on her surplus of legs

each of which

touched me and really

the touch wasn't much

but then the way

if a spider can

she looked at me

clearly somewhere between

outraged and heartbroken

made me say "I'm sorry

to have wrecked your home

your nest your larder"

to which she said nothing

only for an instant

pouched on my wrist

then swung herself off

on the thinnest of strings

back into this world

This pretty, this perilous world.

Over my backyard fence on a crisp and clear dawn sky!

This morning is the 30 day of the 2nd month in Chinese Calendar. The first of the month is always a new moon - totally invisible.

I returned to the 5-star suite in Vancouver just as the afternoon light began to dissolve into amber. The air still held the faint trace of champagne from the night before, and as I stepped toward the window, I caught my reflection—soft, radiant, and impossibly daring—in the pale pink silk of my Tighter lingerie by small.

There’s something about this piece that makes the heart flutter. The silhouette clings like a whispered secret—its high-cut sides elongate my curves while delicate ribbons trace my hips, tightening into artful knots of temptation. The neckline plunges with reckless grace, held by the thinnest of straps that seem to exist only to heighten desire.

🌸 Tighter is more than a mere lingerie set; it’s a sensation sculpted in motion—its BLINN & Soft PBR materials shimmer in natural light, revealing the play between gloss and sheer with every subtle move. The HUD offers breathtaking transparency options, from the gentlest blush to a daring reveal, and a spectrum of colors that evoke both innocence and seduction.

It fits perfectly across a variety of bodies—LaraX, Petitex, Legacy, Perky, Bombshell, Reborn, Reborn Squish, Waifu, Nhuma, and Lively—each one sculpted to celebrate every feminine curve in its own exquisite way.

As I looked out the window, the city lights shimmered below like scattered diamonds on velvet, each one reflecting a memory of desire and discovery. I let my fingertips rest along the cool glass, the soft fabric of Tighter brushing against my skin, reminding me how elegance and sensuality can coexist in one breath.

💗 Lingerie is not about seduction—it’s about confidence worn close to the skin.

This is the thinnest crescent Moon I have photographed. It was just before sunrise. The gull flying though added some interest. Otherwise this is just another crescent Moon image.

I also noticed I needed to set my camera(s) back to Standard Time.

Travertines are located next to the Cross Pass, on the Georgian Military Road. Travertine is a calcareous tuff, consisting mainly of aragonite. The color is given by impurities, in this case iron, so it is red. You can try the water, it's clean, but it smells strongly of iron.

Travertine is a sedimentary rock formed as a result of precipitation of calcium carbonate from water solutions. There are extensive travertine formations in the Truso Gorge that have been formed over the years.

Travertine formations are characterized by amazing shapes and textures. Water penetrating through porous rock layers creates beautiful and complex structures of deposited calcium.

One of the greatest features of travertine is its colorfulness. It can have various shades, including white, cream, yellow and brown, depending on the mineral impurities and chemical elements present in the calcium precipitating water.

Travertine is a unique ecosystem that supports a variety of plants and animals. Due to the constant precipitation of water and the availability of food resources, many plants live in the vicinity of travertine, including lichens, mosses and various plant species that have adapted to such conditions.

For travertine to occur, several conditions must be strictly observed. Even if one of these conditions is violated, travertine will cease to exist, will die. A prerequisite for the appearance of travertine is the presence of a gentle slope and a constant flow of mineral water in a thin layer. Only when these conditions are met, the minerals suspended in water manage to settle on the surface and form the thinnest petrified mineral crust, which gradually grows and turns into a lattice.

"Lange Anna"

Helgoland*Nordsee*Deutschland

Lange Anna ("Tall Anna"), is a 47 metres (154 ft) high sea stack of variegated sandstone in the North Sea island of Heligoland, Germany. Its real local name is Nathurn Stak (Northern Stack).Climbing the stack is not allowed but tourists can look at the rock from a distance.

Lange Anna is somewhat similar to the Old Man of Hoy. In 1969 it was declared a natural monument.

The stack is subject to severe weathering wear and decomposition. It was decided that any further effort for its conservation could do nothing but slowing down the process, so the Lange Anna today is consigned to its fate. Experts assume an acute danger of collapse of the top two thirds because of an instable layer of sands 16 metres above sea level, which already is the thinnest part of Lange Anna.

There might be as many as eighty. It really was a little too deep into the blue hour when I shot this one. So had to bump up the ISO a little. Could be the longest / thinnest pano I've done.

Had to work quick and shoot in landscape orientation to avoid running out of time to get all the way to the right!

I'm a lot of things. I own a lot of labels. I identify with a lot of traits.

I'm human. I'm Jewish. I'm Swiss. I'm an opinionated fuck. A confrontational asshole. An indifferent acquaintance. A loyal friend. I'm quiet, but capable of an unfortunate amount of words.

I'm recovering from a burnout. I'm recovering from severe depression. I babysit my brain like it's the thinnest layer of ice I'll ever tread on.

But I embrace life. I jump with both feet. I don't shy away from challenge. I pick my festering mental scabs raw. I find peace in spaces that push me, figuratively and literally.

I'm a son. A brother. A husband. An uncle. A friend. A colleague. An aquaintance. Somebody. Nobody.

I'm a man. Tripping over my own brain. My thoughts. My words. I succeed and I fail, like all humans.

It just happens that I, a man, like men and married one.

"Gay" is one aspect of who I am. And I'd like to not be so narrowly framed. I don't want to be abbreviated to a label. I don't want to be shoved into a box of someone else's making, for the sole reason that treating each other as "humans" is an apparently dead practice.

I'm good with being judged for my actual faults. That I can be an asshole. That I can be unforgiving. That I'm needlessly confrontational. Unnecessarily blunt. Unapologetically...whatever the fuck I am. The list really, really goes on.

This...this is actually what my Pride month goes to.

If you're gonna hate me? Hate me for me. Human to human, hate me for who I actually am, not for what my dick gets excited by. Not for what I do behind closed doors, where it's none of your fucking business.

If you're gonna hate others? Hate them for them. Who they actually are. Not a preconceived notion of who and what they must be, based on a label that has nothing to do with the very core of what makes them human.
