Silver, partly gilt, and enamel. Maker's mark of an arrow. German, probably Nürnberg, 1577.
Arms: Two shields conjoined: sable, the letters HIS, or; Or, a sprig with two flowers, gules. Probably those of a nun.
Cap fitted over top to protect enamel for sewing.
This is my greatgrandmother's thimble, photographed ona modern cake tin. I liked the suggestion of embroidered flowers and making the image brought back many memories. Taken in Johannesburg, South Africa.
