Stand united to uphold the uncompromisingAI legacy of JNUSU.

e.-Expose t e opportuntst organtzattons w tc avebrought the JNUSU's struggle to its ever low .

Finally the 10 days long indefinite hunger strike ofJNUSU came to an unfortunate but calculated end with no.

achievement. We salute the spirit ofstudents who were on indefinite hunger strike for the span of 1D days alongwith those who sat on relay. We also salute those students who supported and rallied behind the JNUSU's callfor double MCM. But AISA-DSF led JNUSU has once again betrayed with t~e students movement. The.

strategy of indefinite hunger strike was not much effective from the very beginning of the movement. Theoffice bearers of JNUSU did not take a single suggestion from the teacher community in the beginning.Teachers have been always supporter for the students' community, specially those teachers who are the productof JNU student movements. Another demerit was that common students were not mobilised in the support ofour issue as they were not taken into confidence. Even it was not tried to take support from the other left andprogressive organisations, in spite ofcalling some symbolic all organisation meetings which has been used as aplatform to only infonn the council's decision. This was a well known fact that JNU administration wasworking in the direction of ruling party but it was also not countered. Administration was adamant not toincrease a single rupee at any cost and it was clear from the behaviour of authorities from the first day of themovement. It could only be countered with the consistent struggle with the active support of teacher andstudent community. · · .

The way in which this indefinite hunger strike was called off was very surprising and again in the allorganizations meeting JNUSU came to only infonn its decision, apart from the fonnality oftaking the opinionsof other organizations. It was said that we have to start the process of JNUSU election soon and that hasbecome the excuse to call off indefinite hunger strike. This was well known to JNUSU before they went onindefinite hunger strike that thev have approximately a month in hand which is requisite time for the initiatingelection process according to the JNUSU constitution. The time JNUSU started hunger strike, it makes veryclear that hunger strike was not indefinite hunger strike but pre planned for fixed time and their .worrisome forthe JNUSU election is hollow and plastic. They are neither serious for student struggle for their democraticdem~nds nor for the conduct of JNUSU election. Otherwise they could have started the struggle much before. The duration for any democratic movement is not fixed. Generally any movement in JNU lasts until some.

concrete achievements are at hand. We have a plenty of example regarding movements those were continuedfor many days. .

Last movement for MCM ended after 14 davs when MCM was increased from 600 Rs to 1500 Rs. Duringhostel movement in 1999, 63 students were booked in Tihar Jail. The movement against emergencv washistoric during 1975~77. But when we focus on the movements run by AISA led JNUSU from last twounions it is seen that the sharpness and militancy of the JNUSU's movements have gone on holiday. Thepo!itics ofrhetoric has become an important constitutive of their politics. Continuing with teethless movementwithout any gain will not only deepen the crisis among students regarding the legacy ofJNUSU's militant andun-compromising struggle but dangerously prepare the ground for NSUI and ABVP. NSUI has started to showits money power in the campus that has never happened before in the history of JNU. NSUI has put itsreadyrnade hoardings in all over campus. Shamelessly they have invited rock and pop bands to woo the supportofcommon students. Our JNUSU is an elected body and any decision regarding student issues should be takenin the consultation with JNUSU by the administration. But on the issue of MCM the decision was taken with.

NSUI which has no credibility among students. Today the need of time is to counter the anti-students policies 0 ofadministration on the one hand and the ABVP and NSUI on other hand. Only the left and progressive forces.

ofthis campus are able to put these bourgeoisie forces at abeyance with their rock solid unity. .

0 Lyngdoh committee recommendations arc also big hurdles for students~ movements and theirdemocratic rights and we have to fight against it for which student community has already given the.

mandate to JNUSU. No serious step was taken against .LCR till now by AJSA-DSF led JNUSU. Definitely.

LCR has put restrictions on students' movements and the incumbent JNUSU which became the explicit reasonto call ofT the ongoing hunger strike, since JNUSU clcdion is to be held latest by 13 September according tothe LCR. AISF has always played a n:~ponsihlc role in :he JNU student movements and committed to continueits lcg~cy without any ~;ompromis~:. .
