Floral Fantasy is a thematic attraction at Gardens by the Bay. Flowers, artistry and technology come together to create a dream-like, fantastical experience for visitors. It comprises four diverse garden landscapes, each showcasing a different concept, as well as a 4D ride. Be greeted by a lush, colourful tableau of flowering plants suspended from the ceiling, which move sinuously in mesmerising fashion at Dance, the first of the four garden landscapes of Floral Fantasy. Be enchanted by the calming sounds of the Float, where the water from the bubbling brook flows through the landscape, and a hundred fuchsia hanging overhead. Meet Nobu, the garden guardian who watches over his plants, and if you're observant enough, you might even find his nine fairy friends hiding within the flowers. Take a stroll down Waltz amidst a rain oasis and waterfalls of flowers among cascading rocks and winding driftwood. Imagine walking through a forest in the rain when you explore this garden landscape, and ponder about the fragility of our biodiversity. Spot the Poison Dart Frogs on display here; despite being tiny, they are hard to miss because of their brilliant colours. Enter the last garden landscape, a cave-like space that is ringed with terraced rock formations, Drift. The semi-enclosed space is set aglow with soft lighting, creating an enthralling atmosphere. 32015

I haven’t been able to go out and work on my night time series for the past several weeks. But my camera still calls to me, so I’ve returned to the studio, so to speak, to shoot flowers. I decided to use light painting. The result is really an eclectic mix of styles. Each day, I ran with whatever idea came to me, and improvised as I went along. So this is more an odds and sods collection than a series of thematically connected images. There has been a lot of discards along the way, but enough keepers to start posting. It is keeping me engaged, and I hope to soon get back out under night skies.

A thematic exploration of fire’s dual nature through the works of 50 modern and contemporary artists. Spanning sculpture, painting, video, and installation, the exhibition examines fire as both a creative, comforting force and a symbol of destruction. From ancient myths to contemporary rituals, this showcase captures the sensory and symbolic power of the element.

A thematic essay. Are small towns outside of larger communities considered suburbs? There are many smaller, rural communities that people migrate to for reasons often having to do with economy. Many of these smaller towns are similar. An impoverished area surrounded by more expensive homes. I'm interested in how people live, how they cope, so I've decided to document what I find interesting about the areas and sometimes to show the juxtaposition of new and old.

Macro Mondays Member’s Choice: Inspired by a Song – Dark Side of the Moon, the first album I ever bought.

The Dark Side of the Moon is the eighth album by the English rock band Pink Floyd, released on 1 March 1973 by Harvest Records. The album built on ideas explored in earlier recordings and live shows, but lacks the extended instrumental excursions following the departure of founding member and principal contributor, Syd Barrett, in 1968 that characterised their earlier work. It thematically explores conflict, greed, the passage of time, and mental illness, the latter partly inspired by Barrett's deteriorating mental state.

The album was an immediate commercial and critical success; it topped the Billboard Top LPs & Tapes chart for a week and remained in the chart for 741 weeks from 1973 to 1988. With an estimated 45 million copies sold, it is Pink Floyd's most commercially successful album and one of the best-selling worldwide. It has been remastered and re-released twice, and covered in its entirety by several other acts. It produced two singles, "Money" and "Us and Them", and is the band's most popular album among fans and critics, being ranked as one of the greatest albums of all time.

My thematic link for this series is grass. My original idea was to pick some grass and set it on fire. I wasn’t sure just how I was going to do it because grass burns really fast and I would have to take a really quick picture. Then I went for a walk in the country to look for grass and get some ideas, and the sun happened to be hitting the grass just right, making it glow as if it was on fire. I had my picture. Taken with my iPhone because my camera’s battery was dead.

HI-SCHOOL ROMANCE ( Harvey ) # 28 May 1954

HI-SCHOOL ROMANCE ( Harvey )

# 1 October 1949 - # 75 November 1958

Hi-School Romance was a teen romance comic that ran from 1949 to 1958. The years following World War II saw the rise of dating as we know it today, with teenagers being given a great deal of freedom to meet each other without constant adult supervision. This is a true product of that time, full of malt shops, sock hops and double-dates. In it, starry-eyed schoolgirls do their best to win the man of their dreams. To accomplish this, however, there was always some obstacle to overcome, whether it meant fighting off a rival or merely learning how to play the game of love better.

What may be most remarkable about this series is noting how much has changed between men and women in the last few decades—as well as how much has stayed the same.

Harvey romance comics @ Wikipedia

" Harvey Comics published five romance comics series in the industry's pre-Comics Code years that had long runs. Covers were line-drawn and Michelle Nolan, author of Love on the Racks, explains that Harvey Comics "tried to provide thematic distinction—First Love and First Romance, Hi-School Romance, True Love Problems and Advice, and True Brides' Experiences (plus a couple of variations of that title)."

Following the imposition of the Comics Code in the early 1950s, Harvey dropped some of their adult titles and concentrated on various children's series such as Richie Rich and Caspar the Friendly Ghost. The company did however continue to publish their five romance titles..."

And the times of the Thematic Cities will come, with their own laws and lifestyles that people will freely choose to live.

And the ancient castles will rise with their knights, the Roman senates will cry out for the new Caesars, it will be the times of the druids, wizards and Celts who will cry out new kingdoms, the old emperors and the new walls, and the Cities of the Future will live like never before populated by those who will look to the future.

And the oceans will roar against the coasts of the old continents taking the ancient kingdoms of Man.

And the storms of Poseidon will strike the cliffs and the beaches, the coastal cities and the ports of the giants.

Whipped by floods and desertic winds, the Atlantean Worlds and the great underwater cities will rise again where the new navigators and explorers will discover the Worlds of the Deep and learn to respect the laws of the Gods of the Seas.

Can't help posting this. I found it to be amusing...

Naked summits alternate with forested lowlands in Yosemite Valley, part of California’s Yosemite National Park. During the Pleistocene Ice Age, glaciers sculpted the underlying rocks in this region, leaving behind canyons, waterfalls, rugged peaks, and granite domes. As the ice retreated, forests grew, but forests only extend as high as 2,900 meters (9,500 feet) above sea level. Above the tree line are rocky landscapes with sparse alpine vegetation. So from the sky, Yosemite Valley appears as a light-and-dark patchwork of forest, rock, and shadow.

The Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus on NASA’s Landsat 7 satellite captured this true-color image of part of Yosemite Valley on August 18, 2001. The valley runs roughly east-west, and tall granite peaks lining the valley’s southern side cast long shadows across the valley floor. On the valley’s northern side, steep slopes appear almost white. Along the valley floor, roadways form narrow, meandering lines of off-white, past parking lots, buildings, and meadows.

On the north side of Yosemite Valley is El Capitan. Shooting straight up more than 915 meters (3,000 feet) above the valley floor, El Capitan is considered the largest granite monolith in the world. This granite monolith sits across the valley from Bridalveil Fall, one of the valley’s most prominent waterfalls.

The Nebraska State Capitol, the product of a nationwide design competition won by New York Architect Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue in 1920, is described as the nation’s first truly vernacular State Capitol. The present building, the third to be erected on this site, was the nation’s first statehouse design to radically depart from the prototypical form of the nation’s Capitol and to use an office tower. Constructed in four phases over ten years from 1922-1932, the building, with furnishings and landscaping, was completed at a cost just under the $10 million budget and was paid for when finished. To decorate the building, Bertram Goodhue selected Lee Lawrie, sculptor; Hildreth Meiere, tile and mosaic designer; and Hartley B. Alexander, thematic consultant for inscription and symbolism.

Clad with Indiana limestone, the Capitol has a low, wide base in the plan of a “cross within a square”, creating four interior courtyards. The square base is 437 feet on a side and three levels in height. From the center of this base rises a 400 foot domed tower, crowned with the 19 foot tall bronze figure of “The Sower”. A thematic progression of ornamentation extends from the principal entrance on the north, westward around the exterior of the building and through the building’s interior. The building’s exterior stone carvings represent historic events in the 3000 year evolution of democracy as a form of government. The ornamental interior features numerous marble-columned chambers with vaulted polychrome tile ceilings, marble mosaic floors and murals depicting the natural and social history of Nebraska’s Native American and Pioneer cultures.

The Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus on the Landsat 7 satellite captured this natural-color image of Tahiti on July 11, 2001. This island is part of a volcanic chain formed by the northwestward movement of the Pacific Plate over a fixed hotspot. Tahiti consists of two old volcanoes—Tahiti-Nui in the northwest and Tahiti-Iti in the southeast—linked by an isthmus.

July 21st. The theme is night shots. This plainly isn't! This is a back up shot taken during the day just in case I went to bed before it got dark, which I did. Also the first time I've uploaded the day after as I didn't get my night shot.

I think this theme may be too challenging logistically. With a full week of work and family visiting, it doesn't get dark until very late and when it does there's not much to see as we live in the middle of nowhere.

Voronezh is a city and the administrative centre of Voronezh Oblast in southwestern Russia straddling the Voronezh River, located 12 kilometers (7.5 mi) from where it flows into the Don River. The city sits on the Southeastern Railway, which connects western Russia with the Urals and Siberia, the Caucasus and Ukraine, and the M4 highway (Moscow–Voronezh–Rostov-on-Don–Novorossiysk). In recent years the city has experienced rapid population growth, rising in 2021 to 1,057,681, up from 889,680 recorded in the 2010 Census, making it the 14th-most populous city in the country.

From 10 to 17 September 2011, Voronezh celebrated its 425th anniversary. The anniversary of the city was given the status of a federal scale celebration that helped attract large investments from the federal and regional budgets for development.

On December 17, 2012, Voronezh became the fifteenth city in Russia with a population of over one million people.

Today Voronezh is the economic, industrial, cultural, and scientific center of the Central Black Earth Region. As part of the annual tradition in the Russian city of Voronezh, every winter the main city square is thematically drawn around a classic literature. In 2020, the city was decorated using the motifs from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker. In the year of 2021, the architects drew inspiration from Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale The Snow Queen as well as the animation classic The Snow Queen from the Soviet Union. The fairy tale replica city will feature the houses of Kai and Gerda, the palace of the snow queen, an ice rink, and illumination.

A shot of first page of the thematic journal which I opened in March. Also featured is a Lamy Safari (EF) ordered from Jetpens. A very solid fountain pen.

The Thematic Mapper on the Landsat 5 satellite captured this image of Vancouver on September 7, 2011. Flowing through braided channels, the Fraser River meanders toward the sea, emptying through multiple outlets.

The Thematic Apperception Test, or TAT, is a projective psychological test. Historically, it has been among the most widely researched, taught, and used of such tests. Its adherents assert that the TAT taps a subject's unconscious to reveal repressed aspects of personality, motives and needs for achievement, power and intimacy, and problem-solving abilities. -- Wikipedia
