A city with a history of over 2300 years, the second largest in Greece, the birthplace of great personalities and ideas, situated at a strategic position in the Balkan peninsula, where East meets West. Cosmopolitan, charming, mysterious, enchanting and friendly, Thessaloniki was and will always be unique in every aspect.

The statue of Alexander the Great, riding on top of his faithful horse Bucephalus, is situated at the Nea Paralia (“New Seafront”). The statue was erected in 1973-74 and is more than 6 meters high. It is very close to the White Tower, the landmark monument of Thessaloniki. There are many more attractions to see when you are walking along the Nea Paralia, such as thematic parks, sculptures, museums, trip boats, street artists, restaurants, you name it. When the sun shines, a walk by the seafront looking at one side the busy streets loaded with cars and shops with thousands of people and at the other side the sea of Thermaikos Gulf with cargo ships crossing to the port, can be quite a rejuvenating experience!

Warm regards to all, may your days be brilliant with light and joy!

Floral Fantasy is a thematic attraction at Gardens by the Bay. Flowers, artistry and technology come together to create a dream-like, fantastical experience for visitors. It comprises four diverse garden landscapes, each showcasing a different concept, as well as a 4D ride. Be greeted by a lush, colourful tableau of flowering plants suspended from the ceiling, which move sinuously in mesmerising fashion at Dance, the first of the four garden landscapes of Floral Fantasy. Be enchanted by the calming sounds of the Float, where the water from the bubbling brook flows through the landscape, and a hundred fuchsia hanging overhead. Meet Nobu, the garden guardian who watches over his plants, and if you're observant enough, you might even find his nine fairy friends hiding within the flowers. Take a stroll down Waltz amidst a rain oasis and waterfalls of flowers among cascading rocks and winding driftwood. Imagine walking through a forest in the rain when you explore this garden landscape, and ponder about the fragility of our biodiversity. Spot the Poison Dart Frogs on display here; despite being tiny, they are hard to miss because of their brilliant colours. Enter the last garden landscape, a cave-like space that is ringed with terraced rock formations, Drift. The semi-enclosed space is set aglow with soft lighting, creating an enthralling atmosphere. 32015

The Salt Cathedral is a cathedral built inside the Zipaquirá salt mines, in the Savannah of Bogotá, Colombia. This Catholic sanctuary, which commemorates the Via Crucis of Jesus Christ, is one of the most famous in the country.

The importance of the Cathedral lies in its value as a cultural, religious and environmental heritage.

The underground church is part of the "Parque do Sal" cultural complex, thematic cultural space dedicated to mining, geology and natural resources.

The Salt Cathedral is located in the city of Zipaquirá, a town in the Department of Cundinamarca, 49 km north of the Capital District of Bogotá and at an altitude of 2652 m. By rail, the Cathedral is about 48 km from the city of Bogotá; the route is carried out by the Savanna Tourist Train. The town is not only famous for the exploitation of salt, but also for one of the oldest human remains finds in Colombia at the archaeological site of El Abra.

This spiral ramp (there are no stairs) is rumoured to be a turned carriage ride for a former king, who allegedly went up there with a horse-drawn carriage to enjoy the view ; ))

But no: This design was chosen to allow a horse and carriage to reach the library of the tower, moving books in and out, as well as transporting heavy and sensitive instruments to the towertop which served as observatory of the University of Copenhagen until 1861

Playing a tribute to David Lynch’s Eraserhead in a film studies thematic dark soundtrack which includes samples!

My background includes many years in Film studies, Art History, Gender studies, English and Greek and Roman poetry, with over 35 years collecting electronic styles of music, including industrial, ebm, experimental and most styles of synth/darkwave/cold wave/goth. I am excited to examine the thematic depths of David Lynch's Eraserhead and the haunting sounds and samples that embrace it. I am making this set in a way where each section or piece is divided into a many layers' paragraph to make an intoxicating essay with samples and added commentary on the film, its fears in society, and the uncomfortable surrealist expressionist scenery this horrific cinematic masterpiece exudes. Take some time off to come listen and dress up so you sink into a metamorphically cerebral nightmare.

I haven’t been able to go out and work on my night time series for the past several weeks. But my camera still calls to me, so I’ve returned to the studio, so to speak, to shoot flowers. I decided to use light painting. The result is really an eclectic mix of styles. Each day, I ran with whatever idea came to me, and improvised as I went along. So this is more an odds and sods collection than a series of thematically connected images. There has been a lot of discards along the way, but enough keepers to start posting. It is keeping me engaged, and I hope to soon get back out under night skies.

M+ is an art museum located in the West Kowloon Cultural District of Hong Kong. It exhibits twentieth and twenty-first century art encompassing visual art, design and architecture, and moving image. It opened on 12 November 2021.

The M+ Collections focus on twentieth- and twenty-first-century visual culture, encompassing the disciplines of design and architecture, moving image, and visual art, and the thematic area of Hong Kong visual culture. The museum is intended to rival the Tate Modern, New York's MoMA and the Centre Pompidou in terms of the breadth and importance of its collections. The HK$5.9 billion institution is led by Museum Director Suhanya Raffel since January 2019 and administered by the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA). A separate subsidiary company will be set up in the future with the aim of ensuring its "independence and efficiency".

The inaugural director, Lars Nittve, explained that the name is drawn from the concept of being a "museum and more", and that his team sought to move beyond the typical model of the art museum, for example, by serving as a showcase of diverse subjects like architecture, film, and all manner of moving images including animation and video games.

After an architectural competition, six finalists for the design of the M+ museum were announced in 2012, namely Herzog & de Meuron and Farrells, Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa (SANAA), Renzo Piano Building Workshop, Shigeru Ban and Thomas Chow Architects, Snøhetta, and Toyo Ito and Benoy. Each team was compensated with HK$1 million. The winning design, by Herzog & de Meuron and Farrells, was announced by the WKCDA in June 2013. As part of the Masterplan for the West Kowloon Cultural District designed by Foster + Partners, the architects proposed incorporating the use of underground "found space", referring to the space surrounding the Airport Railway tunnels running directly beneath the site, as a "radical" subterranean exhibition and performance area.

The building's design has the basic appearance of an upside-down T. The main horizontal slab housing exhibition spaces is lifted off the ground, permitting pedestrian circulation underneath. Above, a tower houses "public restaurants, lounges and gardens" along with offices and research facilities. Of the structure's total 700,000 square feet (65,000 m2), plans call to reserve 185,000 square feet (17,200 m2) for exhibitions, only slightly more than MoMA. In addition to the interior space, an LED lighting display system is integrated into the facade, serving as a gigantic screen for works of art, visible across Victoria Harbour.

Construction of the museum began in 2014. A time capsule containing artwork of local schoolchildren, to be unsealed 100 years later, was laid on the site in 2015. The museum building was completed in December 2020, with the occupation permit obtained on 24 December 2020.

A thematic exploration of fire’s dual nature through the works of 50 modern and contemporary artists. Spanning sculpture, painting, video, and installation, the exhibition examines fire as both a creative, comforting force and a symbol of destruction. From ancient myths to contemporary rituals, this showcase captures the sensory and symbolic power of the element.

A thematic essay. Are small towns outside of larger communities considered suburbs? There are many smaller, rural communities that people migrate to for reasons often having to do with economy. Many of these smaller towns are similar. An impoverished area surrounded by more expensive homes. I'm interested in how people live, how they cope, so I've decided to document what I find interesting about the areas and sometimes to show the juxtaposition of new and old.

The famous perennial breeder and garden philosopher Karl Foerster (1874 to 1970) lived and worked in Potsdam-Bornim. In 1912, he began to lay out the show and trial area for perennials in his garden. Karl Foerster wanted to demonstrate the diversity of perennials and woody plants, considering each plant as an individual being. The original garden layout envisaged six thematic areas: Sunken Garden, Spring Path, Nature Garden, Autumn Bed, Rock Garden and Experimental Garden. He combined perennials with bulbs, grasses and woody plants and grouped them so that there were areas worth seeing in every season.

The garden was redesigned several times: In the 1930s Hermann Mattern terraced the sunken garden with dry stone walls, in 1960/61 Hermann Göritz redesigned it again, and in 1983 Göritz and Peter Herling redesigned individual areas. Since 1981, the garden has been listed as a "Karl Foerster Memorial". It was reconstructed as a garden monument for the Federal Garden Show in 2001. Foerster cultivated hundreds of plants, almost 70 delphiniums alone. Original Foerster perennials can be purchased at the neighbouring nursery Foerster-Stauden GmbH.

Excerpt from mezquita-catedraldecordoba.es:

We find the Mihrab in the area of the Maqsurah, located in the central area of the qibla wall. Positioned between the doors to the treasury chamber and the Sabat, it is a focal point for the contribution made by Al-Hakam II to the Aljama. However, it is not only a place indicating the direction of prayer. It is also where the constructive development of this expansion converges, the area where the visitor, amazed by its richness and artistry, directs their gaze.

The Mihrab is no longer just a simple niche but is created as a place to project, becoming a small octagonal room covered by a scallop shell dome. It rises up from a marble plinth which is surrounded by a quranic surah and an inscription alluding to the creators of the work. At the top, on the wall panels, trefoil blind arches are found along with an abundant decoration of stylised plant motifs.

Its entrance is structured through a canted horseshoe arch where we find the mosaic decoration which links to the Byzantium tradition, produced by the craftsmen sent by Emperor Nicephorus II. These mosaics extend along the voussoirs with a geometric and plant-based design, but also in the inscriptions which record verses from the Koran. Added to the richness provided by the mosaics are the boards of stylised plant motifs which display the thematic motif of the "tree of life".

My thematic link for this series is grass. My original idea was to pick some grass and set it on fire. I wasn’t sure just how I was going to do it because grass burns really fast and I would have to take a really quick picture. Then I went for a walk in the country to look for grass and get some ideas, and the sun happened to be hitting the grass just right, making it glow as if it was on fire. I had my picture. Taken with my iPhone because my camera’s battery was dead.

And the times of the Thematic Cities will come, with their own laws and lifestyles that people will freely choose to live.

And the ancient castles will rise with their knights, the Roman senates will cry out for the new Caesars, it will be the times of the druids, wizards and Celts who will cry out new kingdoms, the old emperors and the new walls, and the Cities of the Future will live like never before populated by those who will look to the future.

And the oceans will roar against the coasts of the old continents taking the ancient kingdoms of Man.

And the storms of Poseidon will strike the cliffs and the beaches, the coastal cities and the ports of the giants.

Whipped by floods and desertic winds, the Atlantean Worlds and the great underwater cities will rise again where the new navigators and explorers will discover the Worlds of the Deep and learn to respect the laws of the Gods of the Seas.

Can't help posting this. I found it to be amusing...

This breaks from the inside. god. like

March 2nd, 2009.

It's only 2:30pm, and I've already had a beyond bad day. The past few days have been really stressful, and this is the first time I've taken to just sit back and relax.

The two things that made my day today were Andy and one of my photography teachers. Andy comforts me and encourages me to keep going and not give up, and he's just plain amazing to be with. This is an e-mail I received from one of my teachers, Kamila, after I sent her the link to my Flickr and told her I'm more comfortable shooting with my digital, than I am with my film, because I don't feel as good with my film as I do digital;

"Hi Renee,

Thank you for sharing your work with me :)

Your abilities of capturing strong images are not guided by the

equipment you use (film vs. digital) but by your ideas and

enthusiasm. I enjoyed your photoshop images the most because they

show off your creative side. One shot that is the strongest out of

all your other images is the one of the parking lot during the

Steelers parade. It is amazing! It shows off the overwhelming

celebration by fans. It captures that day perfectly. I'm not sure

if you got to see some of the bachelor portfolio presentations of

that same day but your image wins! :)

Renee, I recommend that you shoot a lot. The more you shoot, more

comfortable you'll be with your film camera. Set aside time and

shoot entire rolls of thematic material. I am sure that you will get

some amazing shots to choose from for your final printing. Don't

hesitate, don't be afraid to get mediocre results, that's how you

learn. The idea is to have many images to choose from, rather than

not enough.

I'm looking forward to seeing new work from you this Friday. Take care :)

-Kamila Sych"

She is by far the best teacher I've had so far at AiP, and reading that from her gave me the boost I needed to get in gear and work harder.
