During a training session with a friends Working English Springer Spaniel in Cambridge. The dog was hunting at speed and heard the whistle and was putting on the brakes!!!
While I was out at Centennial Park, last week, I noticed some small shorebirds milling about. I was watching them on the shore, when they suddenly took off in flight. This is just one of the shots I caught of them on the move. Many thanks to Brian Stone for confirming the identification that these are Lesser Yellowlegs.
Taken at Centennial Park in Moncton, NB, Canada on 5 October 2017.

These owls are fantastic subject matter. This Barn Owl has just taken to the skies, and did have two legs. It's just a weird angle where only one leg is visible.

There once was a lion
named Wish
who was a seriously beautiful
dish.
But her spikes were dead ringers
for some lethal humdingers
And Wish just wanted to be
a harmless, kind of spectacular,
good-natured, gorgeous,
outstanding,
erm,
lion fish.

Well, not actually "the beach" but the areas right next to the beach. Coastal route A1A is the main road (looking north). The intracoastal waterway and the inland city of Fort Lauderdale are at the upper left. The bright lights are; Las Olas Boulevard and the famous Fort Lauderdale Strip (movie: "Where the Boys Are" - starring Connie Francis - 1959). The darkened beach is just to the right of that. Bright lights are kept off the beach so as not to attract wayward sea-turtles until they are ready to come ashore to nest in the sand. Then those precious turtle nests are protected ~ Fort Lauderdale, Florida U.S.A.

[Pleasure Island was primarily a night-time entertainment complex with two comedy clubs and four dance clubs. These clubs closed permanently on September 27, 2008. New shops and restaurants were planned to open to replace the closed clubs, but the economic recession of 2009 delayed plans. Only one new restaurant has opened to date.
While the Village/Marketplace and West Side have always been free to enter, Pleasure Island required the purchase of admission and was closed during the day. Beginning in summer 2004, Pleasure Island became free to enter, and only those guests entering the nightclubs were charged admission.
On November 18, 2010, Walt Disney World Resort announced a project named Hyperion Wharf, which was planned to replace the Pleasure Island complex. Pleasure Island would have undergone extensive renovations and re-theming to transform into the early twentieth century wharf-themed entertainment area. New shopping and dining locations would have also been added. In July 2011, it was announced that these plans have been delayed. These plans were later cancelled in favor of Disney Springs. Construction began in April 2013 on Disney Springs, a complete remake of the section, which will be completed by 2016.]

Meerkats are small burrowing animals from South Africa, living in large underground networks with multiple entrances which they leave only during the day. They are very social, living in colonies averaging 20–30 members. Animals in the same group regularly groom each other to strengthen social bonds. The alpha pair often scent-mark subordinates of the group to express their authority, and this is usually followed by the subordinates grooming the alphas and licking their faces. This behavior is also usually practiced when group members are reunited after a short period apart. Most meerkats in a group are all siblings or offspring of the alpha pair. From the mongoose family.
Meerkats demonstrate altruistic behavior within their colonies; one or more meerkats stand sentry while others are foraging or playing, to warn them of approaching dangers. When a predator is spotted, the meerkat performing as sentry gives a warning bark, and other members of the gang will run and hide in one of the many bolt holes they have spread across their territory. The sentry meerkat is the first to reappear from the burrow and search for predators, constantly barking to keep the others underground. If there is no threat, the sentry meerkat stops signaling and the others feel safe to emerge.

*********************************************************************************
Guarding our temples, adorning our flags, decorating our coins and capturing our hearts, the lion is beyond doubt the world’s most iconic species. On almost every continent, and in thousands of cultures, the lion can be found demonstrating man’s fascination with this magnificent beast. Despite the lions’ symbolic importance throughout the ages, today they are suffering from a silent extinction across Africa and India. Knowledge of the King of Beasts’ plight is little known. World Lion Day is the first global campaign to celebrate the importance of the lion worldwide. Since the dawn of man the lion has played an integral role in our lives: symbolically, religiously, culturally, economically and biologically. To lose the lion from our world would be to lose part of our global heritage.
Wherever you may be, join us on August 10th to celebrate the lion, create much needed conservation awareness and help us save the King of Beasts and his kingdom." - worldlionday.com/the-campaign/

Lions have suffered significant population declines over the last several decades with only an estimated 32,000 individuals remaining in the wild, down from over 100,000 living 50 years ago. In the wild, the average lifespan of lions is approximately 12-15 years but in captivity they can live over 20 years. They are truly loved in Miami.
