Near the lock of the village Strijen (Strijensas) is an iron tower from 1897. The tower looks like the tower of Den Oever and Stavoren and was probably built to the same design. The tower had a broken light at a height of 11 meters above the waterline, But on New Year 1996 is the light extinguished. The municipality Strijen has bought and restored the tower.
STRIJENSAS - To the dismay of residents and heritage enthusiasts, the famous ‘beacon’ at the harbour of Strijensas has been badly damaged by vandals. The air watchtower on the banks of the Hollandsch Diep has also been seriously damaged. The damage to the round windows of the lighthouse alone amounts to around €20,000. The Hoeksche Waard is frugal and proud of the cultural-historical objects that have survived the war and flood. The characteristic historical lighthouse at the entrance to the harbour of Strijensas is a valuable example of this. All the characteristic round curved windows have been smashed and the lamp that was still there has been removed and disappeared. There is also damage to a hatch and the old control box in the tower. The total damage is currently unknown. Beacons and later lighthouses showed skippers the way to the harbour in the dark. For centuries, Strijensas was a busy harbour on the route from the Dutch cities to Brussels and Paris.
