Old carpet samples and production waste get a second life with AW’s design contest. While sorting and recycling will always be important environmental measures in the carpet and floor covering industry, upcycling pushes the envelope that bit further. By upgrading waste into new, desirable products, AW takes an ecological stand while feeding its creative hunger. The contest challenges Belgian design, fashion and textile students to create a product, garment, furniture or accessory with carpet scraps. The finest design wins a cash prize. From March 29th to May 13th the winning designs from 2011 and 2012 are being exhibited at TIO3 in Ronse.

Sneak-peek of the textiles I've developed for ERMIE Holiday:
This is an as of yet Untitled Print. Printed on 100% Organic Cotton Sateen.
When designing the textile, think of it as your body of work and what message are you trying to send out to the world? Textile design is amazing because you can take pride in seeing your original artwork displayed on people all over the world!
So fun!

Coral Garden was inspired by the beautiful floral-like formations of real coral and anemones. This is the largest print in the collection and it took over a month to draw.
Inspired by Berlin based label Studio Nono, students were asked to design a collection suitable for Spring/Summer 19 collection. The outcome was 4 hand painted designs and 2 metre screen printed fabric length.
Studio Nono is a fashion and textiles label working to produce unique feminine textiles ad accessories. Inspired by Japanese and Northern European design, they aim to create their own visual language through unique prints on natural materials. Designing for this label I aimed to create a delicate feminine colour palette and aesthetic using stylised fruit, floral and plant imagery. Other techniques explored were embroidery and beading.

More scenes from the Quilt Barn at the 2009 Kutztown Folk Festival in Kutztown, Pennsylvania, USA, seen on July 3, 2009, the day before the quilt auction. If you've never had a chance to see 2,500 quilts in one room, I hope you will; it's wondrous! Unfortunately, we heard from a friend who runs a shop in Paradise that sales were really down this year. Please support folk art, if you can. This shot shows a lovely variety of patterns. I've always liked the log cabin. It makes a fun patch & there are so many ways you can stitch them together!
