I was shocked to discover that David's textbooks for this semester actually cost over $100 more than his college tuition. Something is wrong with this picture? I thought Junior College was suppose to be affordable!

Day 38 (Feb. 7, 2010): Our Friend Dana brought her two little girl, Brooke (age 2) and Chelsea (age 2 months), over to the house for a photoshoot. It was a wonderful experience to really practice the craft of portrait photography. Shooting pics of Jack is a great way for me to learn about lighting dynamics, but today gave me a chance to practice one of the more important skills required of a portrait photographer...the ability to get a toddler to sit stil in a dark room, under bright modeling lights, long enough to snap off at least one useable photo :o) I chose this pic from the session for my Project 365 daily b/c I think it is a very interesting composition. As I was snapping off a burst of shots Brooke decided she wanted to get up and get a toy across the room, this portrait is the result. When the shutter fired she had moved beyond the reach of my fill light, which made for some very interesting shadows. It's not exactly a textbook example of proper portrait exposure, but I thought it looked cool :o)
These are the two textbooks we are using in my undergraduate Social Media course. Both are filled with good information and do a good job of combining the technical side into every day use of social networking.
I'll be interested to see how quickly these textbooks become outdated, however, as the industry seems to be constantly changing.

In the textbook, pages 9-11 devote considerable attention to the possibilities of the out-of-focus photographic image, the way it can reference peripheral vision, or absent subjects, or invoke the “Ganzfeld.” Explore the Ganzfeld (note: we will be looking for visually engaging blurry images, not just random smears that don’t hold visual interest).
