WEEK 14 – Barnes & Noble Ole Miss: Reunionited and It Feels So Good (I)

Glancing to the right, we see the textbook mecca, where a couple of other customers were also here to pick up their books. That was the reason for my visit on this date, too. I was here before the semester actually began, so that’s why the place wasn’t jam-packed. But I do have to say that I hope they managed to get back in a groove once the semester did begin: even though the store had been open since May, the spring 2019 textbook returns and May Intersession 2019 textbook purchases were all handled at the temporary JAC location, so besides summer classes this was to be the first big textbook season back at the Union in their new store. And it was clear that they weren’t really up-to-par just yet. (Granted, though: they never really did set a high bar on any of my visits, lol…)

These places are public so these photos are too, but just as I tell where they came from, I'd appreciate if you'd say who :)

The architecture of Chartres cathedral is often given as an example of the typical gothic style. Here is a ribbed vault and a tripartite elevation – arcade, triforium and clerestory.

The lowest level is made of a series of pointed arches. This supports narrow gallery with a row of elegant columns. Above the triforium the clerestory is lit by a series of double lanced windows. It is crowned with a quadripartite ribbed vault.

Where the ribs and transverse arches meet the sides of the building flying buttresses outside hold their trust.

This system, which is what the gothic architecture is about, made it possible to build higher and to open the walls and fill them with stained glass.

EJ&E 660, a classic SD38-2 built by EMD in 1975, is "speeding" south after switching the Charter Steel plant in Saukville, Wi. Speed limits on this line are lucky to exceed 10 MPH. Seriously. Brian and I are planning on chasing them this summer - on our bikes!

A break in the dingy weather allows for a late morning setup with Ramsey Island and the St Davids peninsula lined up on the horizon and a bright sun at my back.

I know this is simple but this represents my struggle to combine my love of art and science. It's so hard to pick a major in college. :(

Glowing water? Check. Reflecting pilings? Check. Pretty seagulls? Check. Yep, works for me.
