The Mermaid Parade in Coney Island Brooklyn, NY 30th Anniversary June 23rd 2012
The Coney Island Mermaid Parade began in 1983, when the first event of this kind was conceptualized and organized by Dick Zigun, who is sometimes dubbed the "Mayor of Coney Island", and who was the founder of the non-profit arts group Coney Island USA.
The Mermaid Parade is held in celebration of the beginning of the summer season, and so it traditionally takes place on the Saturday closest to the calendar start of summer.

The protestors have measured the distance from the tip of the blade to the base. Although it still does not change that the turbine will be very tall.

The lovely Chicago City Hall is situated just west of the Daley Civic Center Plaza and the Cook County Courthouse (a.k.a. the Daley Civic Center) in downtown Chicago. The 11-story structure was designed by the architectural firm Holabird & Roche in the classical revival style. The building was officially dedicated on February 27, 1911, and to this day it houses some Cook County offices.
