Always enjoy seeing these stars !!! HFF

The Wood Duck (Aix sponsa) is a flamboyant and colorful species of North American waterfowl. Wood Ducks feed by dabbling and they are strong fliers and can reach speeds of 30 mph. They are one of only a few ducks that have claws on their feet, allowing them to perch and nest in trees. They tend to build their nests within one mile of a lake shore, river bank, or other body of water. Egg-dumping, or intraspecific brood parasitism is common in Wood Ducks—females visit other Wood Duck cavities, lay eggs in them, and leave them to be raised by the other female. This may have been made more common by the abundance of artificial nest boxes.

Individual females typically lay 10-11 eggs per clutch, but some very full nests have been found containing 29 eggs, the result of egg-dumping. This beautiful male Wood Duck image was captured at White Rock Lake in Dallas, Texas.

I burrowed south of Ft. Stockton, TX, May 28th last year to attempt an early show. What a frustrating chase leg. Expended 170 miles of feckless driving, but at least came away with this one pic near Sanderson. Fortunately part 2 that day served up an awesome sup near Pyote.

I had to shoot these pictures free handed. sorry the foreground is blurry.

Beaumont, Texas: Historical Marker:

The first county building constructed at this site was a jailhouse completed in 1838, two years after the organization of Jefferson County. Located on land acquired from Nancy Tevis, a pioneer settler of the area, it also housed county offices and courts. When the commissioners court outgrew the facility, sessions were held in private homes. The first courthouse here was completed in 1854. Built by John A. Beaumont, it was a two-story square structure surrounded by a six-foot picket fence. Baptist and Methodist congregations conducted Sunday services in the building and during the Civil War it was leased to D. T. Inglehart, a Confederate surgeon, for use as a hospital. A second courthouse was constructed in 1893, twelve years after the incorporation of Beaumont. Designed by E. T. Heiner, it was a three-story red brick building with white trim. Following the area oil boom of the 1920s it proved inadequate to meet the needs of the growing population and was replaced by the present brick courthouse in 1931. Designed by Fred Stone and A. Babin, the fourteen-story building features art deco styling in the use of sculpted ornamentation and marble interior work.

This beauty shows up at the same time as the bluebonnets. The two colorful wildflowers make road trips in Texas in Spring spectacular.

I've been seeing photos of Caddo Lake for a long time and it was a place I have longed to visit. It's a 25,400 acre lake and bayou on the border between Texas and Louisiana. We only had a couple days, but it was fascinating and wonderful to paddle our kayak among the natural beauty of the old cypress bayou.

I look forward to catching up with you and seeing the latest happenings in Flickrland : )

The many shapes and textures of a bluebonnet flower from the top down. Do you see the star?! Nature’s intricacies will forever blow my mind! 💙⭐️

Interior of the statehouse dome, Austin Texas

This shot, for me, represents a quintessential Texas view. This time of year any open field is covered in wildflowers, there is never a pond far away, and the harbinger or rain is a frequent visitor.

Thanks as always for your comments, faves and inspiration!

A Gopher Snake stands its ground under the Texas sun. This Gopher Snake found a sunny spot to unwind in the middle of the road. With care, I safely relocated to him so he could live to fight another day.
