For today's theme, I wanted to create this spectacular set of dice with multifaceted shapes, used for role-playing games, highlighting the number "3", which for Pythagorean philosophers was considered the perfect number. It was also used as a symbolic function by poets. For example, in the epic poem Divine Comedy by the great Dante Alighieri, the number "3" emerges as a symbol of structural and allusive perfection.
Per il tema di oggi ho voluto creare questo scenografico set di dadi dalle forme poliedriche, usati per i giochi di ruolo. Ho evidenziato il numero "3", che per i filosofi pitagorici, e non solo, era considerato il numero perfetto e che spesso assume una funzione simbolica per poeti come Dante che nella Divina Commedia allude al TRE come al simbolo della perfezione strutturale.
Pour le thème d'aujourd'hui, je voulais créer cet ensemble spectaculaire de dés à multiples facettes, utilisés pour les jeux de rôle, mettant en évidence le chiffre « 3 » , qui pour les philosophes pythagoriciens était considéré comme le numéro parfait. Il était également, utilisé comme fonction symbolique par des poètes. Par exemple, dans la Divine Comédie du grand Dante Alighieri, le chiffre «3» apparaît comme un symbole de perfection structurelle et allusive.

The Tetrahedron is located in Bottrop,Germany,on top of the mine dump and serves as the town's landmark.
It was opened on German Unity Day 3 October 1995.
It's a walkable steel structure in the form of a tetrahedron with a side length of 60m, resting on four 9m tall concrete pillars.

First thing: when I was a child, the milk was sold in the form of a pretty tetrahedron called tetrapack. Today, however, is sold in a package that is a parallelepiped shape called tetrabrick but everybody still call tetrapack. I loved that package and I am convinced that my passion for the tetrahedron is from there.
Second thing: I received as a Christamas gift the interesting book by Sundara Rao "Geometric exercises in paper folding"; it is a book of 1853 which, according to the author, is inspired by Froebel, and in particular by the Gift n. VIII "Paperfolding" ... in fact these gifts of Froebel are not always the same ... now the number 8 is a different thing, however, no one doubts that Froebel gifted children of paper folding. I would suggest, in this case, to trust on this fine article by David Lister.
Third thing: yesterday, not knowing what to suggest to the kids, after being gone too, with great risk, to skate on ice ... I got into my head to make chocolate muffins ... and eat a fair amount, stuff not to be swallowed by an elephant.
Fourth thing: to my Christmas dinner, I used these fine Muji bags for packing gifts for my guests.They are flat envelopes that, when filled, turn into a tetrahedron, and one can also hang them to the tree as a decoration. No more on Muji production but I still have a discrete amount.
This was last night before going to sleep... I started to read this Sundara Rao's book, chapter one, on the square nothing to say, if not some pretty ideas for my students, which, however (don't worry guys), I have already forgotten. Chapter two, the triangle ... the triangle ... I started the text looked at the picture (a flattened square of paper pre-folded into regular triangles) ... all those muffins, stomach pain, I recalled my grandmother and the tetrapack and I felt asleep. I woke up around four a.m. with this thing in mind ...unbelievable, I have seen it in my own mind! It was so clear! It was so terribly simple! Beautiful! So simple that surely many someones have folded before me ... Sundara Rao at least, I feel, did... so I guess I might consider it a traditional model... but here it is: my bag in the shape of a tetrahedron from a single square sheet, and of course can be opened simply pushing two corners with two fingers.
When folding, I could see there was left out of the group of triangles, this strip ... here is the problem ... I thought... then the second light ... Jaime Lerner, who, I know, for some, is a discussed character, but I always liked his quote "... I realized that the city was not the problem ... the city was the solution!" here it was ... the strip was not the problem, the strip was the solution ... it can be used as a lock! The box is beautiful, opens with two fingers ... In short: I'm so proud.
Sooner or later, a CP or diagram will come, by now I wish you all the time, that your problem may be your solution!

"The Partial Platonics" ...a series of 5 polyhedra sculptures I did.
I used the original tablesaw jigs and fixtures that made one of the normal 9" Tetrahedrons (right). I cut identical compound miters on 4 pieces of wood then made the partial tetrahedron sculpture on the left. I tried to orient them as best as I could for the photo so you can see the 1-1 relationship they have. The compound angles are very precise so it holds its shape on its own.
Any which way you turn this piece it always looks the same!

Tribulus is considered a very important plant for its content of particular substances, used in various folk medicines, from Europe to China and India, as an aphrodisiac and protezioen of the liver.
Since this plant is extracted an important supplement capable of acrescere muscle mass and is used in physiotherapy "Oficial" for the treatment of certain diseases related to the sexual sphere.

There are so many combinations of 2-3 4 or more Platonic Solids, Archimedian Solids et al, that I would be busy for quite a while making them all!
These are permanently attached with small dowel rods at each of the contact points. The Octahedron is stained in cherry wood and the tetrahedron is just clear coated. Turn it on any of its 4 sides and its exactly the same symmetry.
Me encanta que al lado de mi casa, en mitad de la calle, haya dos sitios en los que se pueden encontrar los cinco sólidos platónicos: tetraedro cubo, octaedro, dodecaedro e icosaedro. No tengo ni idea de dónde vienen, pero ahí están, como si nada, siendo sólo cinco y los cinco juntos. Platón por madrid...

Il nome scientifico latino Tribulus, deriva del Greco τρίβολος, originalmente era un’arma passiva a 4 punte usata dagli antichi romani, nel suo significato botanico è stato usato da Plinio il vecchio nella sua Historia naturalis (21, 91) per designare il fruto di questa pianta a forma di tetraedo che ricorda vagamente il tribolo, ma anche di altre piante come per esempio: (Trapa natans, la Castagna d’acqua) e da Virgilio nelle Georgiche (1, 53).
Il tribulus è considerata una pianta molto importante per il suo contenuto di sostanze particolari, usato nelle varie medicine popolari, dall’Europa alla Cina e all’India, come afrodisiaco e protezioen del fegato.
Da questa pianta si estrae un importante integratore capace di acrescere la massa muscolare e viene usata nella fisioterapia “uficiale” per la cura di alcune patologie legate alla sfera sessuale.

El nombre científico en latín Tribulus, deriva τρίβολος griego, originalmente era un arma pasiva 4 puntos utilizada por los antiguos romanos, en su interés botánico fue utilizado por Plinio el Viejo en su Naturalis Historia (21, 91) para designar el Fruto de esta planta en la forma de un tetraedro que se parece vagamente la tribble, sino también de otras plantas, tales como: (Trapa natans, la castaña de agua) y Virgilio en las Geórgicas (1, 53).
Tribulus es considerada una planta muy importante por su contenido de sustancias particulares, que se utiliza en varios medicamentos populares, desde Europa a China y la India, como un afrodisíaco y protezioen del hígado.
Dado que esta planta se extrae un suplemento importante capaz de masa muscular acrescere y se utiliza en fisioterapia "Oficial" para el tratamiento de algunas enfermedades relacionadas con la esfera sexual.

Joints are very strong but I would suggest rectangles in proportion 1:5 for better appearence and space legibility.

El último paso será unir el tetraedro compuesto por cuatro celdas al hilo. esto se hace atravesando el papel con dos pequeños agujeros y atando el hilo al vértice superior.

Existem apenas cinco sólidos regulares: o tetraedro, o hexaedro (ou cubo), o octaedro, o dodecaedro e o icosaedro. Respectivamente, com quatro, seis, oito, doze e vinte faces. São conhecidos como sólidos platônicos. Platão teorizou sobre serem a base para a organização do mundo físico. Platão escreveu sobre eles no diálogo Timaeus c.360 AC, no qual ele associou cada um dos quatro elementos da natureza (terra, ar, água e fogo) com um sólido regular. A terra foi associada ao hexaedro, o ar com o octaedro, a água com o icosaedro. Sobre o quinto sólido platônico, o dodecaedro, Platão observou que “Deus o utilizou para dispor as constelações em todo o firmamento”.
O dodecaedro da foto foi feito com puro cristal de quartzo brasileiro.
There are only five regular solids: the tetrahedron, the hexahedron (cube), the octahedron, the dodecahedron and the icosahedron. Respectively, with four, six, eight, twelve and twenty faces. They are known as Platonic solids. Plato theorized about being the base for the structure of the physical world. Plato wrote about them in the dialogue Timaeus c.360 B.C. in which he associated each of the four classical elements (earth, air, water, and fire) with a regular solid. Earth was associated with the cube, air with the octahedron, water with the icosahedron, and fire with the tetrahedron. The fifth Platonic solid, the dodecahedron, Plato obscurely remarks, "...the god used for arranging the constellations on the whole heaven".
The dodecahedron of the picture is made of pure Brazilian quartz crystal.
