Savannah tested for her gold belt and Chris tested for his orange belt on the same day. Both passed!
A short test I made tracking my son Jack along a local beach using the DIY Steadicam I made. It's based on the design of the Steadicam Merlin 2. So far so good. Still getting some small amount of vibration/judder at times through small slip in gimbal - but overall very happy with results.
Post color grade and crop - Da Vinci Resolve. Music and titles added on YouTube Video Editor.
Testing out the Eye-Fi thingie, courtesy of Photojojo. There may be a slight uptick in photos in my stream for the next few days.
Law came over for the day and we took off the mouldings on my car for a quick respray since the paint was chipping.
It was a huge hassle, and the prep work took up most of our time.
Here you can see the mouldings off the door and the front lip lying in the background; we didn't have enough time to fully sand down the lip and get spraying!
Darn.
Whilst waiting for the mouldings to dry, we used some PlastX on the headlights.
A quick 5 minute job (using 1800, 2000, 2500 and 3000 grit sandpaper THEN PlastX) and they looked as good as new, highly recommend it.

- YN460-II 80% power flashed at the roof from camera left at the rear of the car
- YN460-II 100% power flashed at the roof from the back corner of the garage for fill light
Watkins-Johnson (WJ) Adate 1500 system. Originally introduced in the early 1980's by WJ Palo Alto, the ADATE system was used to test Timex watches.
Elinchrom Skyport Universal test:
I placed 2 Canon flashes with 2 Elinchrom Skyport receivers in a house in front of mine and then made them fire from a distance of about 100/150m.
One was in the balcony, in direct sight, the other was inside the apartment, completely out of sight.
Remarkably also the flash positioned inside the apartment fired.
They work.
Decided to make a quick and dirty cardboard flash diffuser. Then I decided to just go all the way and make different comparisons.
- Homemade cardboard, head 45 degrees
- Nothing, head 90 d (towards white ceiling)
- Integrated lid pulled out but not folded back onto the head, head 45 d
- Nothing, head 45 d
- Nothing, head 0 d (straight ahead)
- Stofen diffuser, head 0 d
- Nothing, head 0 d
- Stofen, head 0 d
Clearly, ceiling bounce is the best.
The stofen does not bad a job, but adds a lot of warmth (which is neither good or bad I guess, depends what you're looking for)
My cheapo diffuser beats the rest.
It would be a whole different story outside though.
we were in vegas for one of aaron's best friends wedding. Noel (the groom) didn't ask me to be the photographer for the wedding but instead asked if i could set up a little area at the restaurant to do some ab + bk style photobooth pictures of all the guest. Since we were at Caesar's Palace (can't recall the name of the restaurant) the background looks a little more 1997 prom than we would normally want. but the photos still turned out great. I would highly suggest everyone do this at their weddings. It's much more fun than looking at the guest sitting down and eating

This is a test photo for edge detail and the new metering mode called 'Highlight weighted'. When looking at the EXIF data for Metering, it's listed as 'Other'. The pedals were very bright as the flower was backlight, no blown highlights.
Also, the fuzz on the leaves couldn't be sharper. Processing was basic Camera raw for posting.
Andrew loved Test Track, but he only got to ride it once. It's pretty clever for the 'on ride' photos to be linked to your PhotoPass.
Test with the Pioneer PX100 UV+ test film. This was shot on a tripod in dim room light, shutter was open for around 5-10 seconds. Very pleased with the result.
Just testing some settings on the Fuji. Really enjoying the results.
