Pacific Fiction ...
Faithful to the heritage of conceptual art, fascinated by land art and especially by Robert Smithson, influenced by Olafur Eliassonās teaching at the Institut für Raumexperimente in Berlin, Julian CharriĆØre sets in motion research processes that give rise to performances, photographic records, films and installations.
His materials, including decaying organic matter, cryogenically frozen plants, sediment and salt bricks reflect particular times and spaces, both as tangible traces of what he calls a āgeology of historyā and as explorations of humanityās interdependent relationship with our environment.
Pacific Fiction ā Study for Monument is one of a set of works created by CharriĆØre following his exploration of the Marshall Islands and the Bikini atoll, part of his research into former nuclear testing sites as dystopian places par excellence.
The United States test-fired nearly seventy nuclear bombs in the Marshall Islands from 1946 to 1958, including Castle Bravo, the single most powerful H-bomb, which wiped two islands from the map.
Pacific Fiction, a pyramid of coconuts encased in lead, can be read as the model for a future memorial. The coconuts refer to the etymology of the Bikini atoll, which takes its name from the local Melanesian name āPikinniā, āpikā meaning āsurfaceā and āniā meaning ācoconut palmā. The lead is used for its physical property of withstanding radiation. While the pile of coconuts echoes a stock of cannon balls, the workās pyramid shape and its subtitle, Study for Monument, also conjure up images of a tomb, Egyptian pyramids, the architecture of the bunkers on the Bikini atoll shoreline, and the angular iron monoliths that slumber in the depths of the Pacific.

Pazifische Fiktion ...

Merci !
I re-edited this image to give what I think is a more "honest" interpretation of the photo - you can see it here: flic.kr/p/2qYsMrH
A few years ago I bought a Kodak Reflex 1A (the TLR, not the 35mm Retina Reflex) and did a few tests with it, but found the results universally disappointing. The Anastigmat lens it's equipped with is pretty sub-standard, IMO. It is grotesquely unsharp and loaded with aberration when used wide open (or close to it) and extremely prone to flare, as you can see in this example photo. But when stopped down to f11 or f16 it can make a reasonable image (I think this was shot at f11.5)
Kodak Tmax 400 shot at 200 ASA, developed in Adox XT-3, 1:1 for 9 minutes.
Note: after reviewing this recent roll of film shot with the Reflex 1A, I decided I had no further use for it and donated it to the local thrift shop. It wasn't worth the effort to re-roll film onto 620 spools.

Australian Magpie (Gymnorhina tibicen) juvenile
At least one of the Magpie chicks will be leaving the nest soon, it was doing a lot of wing testing today. I also now know that there are 3 chicks, not just the 2 I had previously seen.
So, i got a new toy, one of my first flights and only really just getting the hang of it. Lots of ideas... :-)
