"In ancient times cats were worshipped as gods; they have not forgotten this."
Quote - Terry Pratchett
I see several cat-faces….;-))
Happy Sliders Sunday!
This gentleman, a meat pie seller in Marsa Matrouh, Egypt, looks exactly the way I always imagined Terry Pratchett's character CMOT Dibbler would look. The fact that he is a meat pie seller is just the icing on the cake.
Here's a quote about CMOT Dibbler from Sir Terry Pratchett's brilliant book Night Watch: "there was something about his expression, as of a rat who was expecting cheese right around the next corner, and had been expecting cheese around the last corner too, and the corner before that, and, although the world has turned out so far to be full of corners yet completely innocent of any cheese at all, was nevertheless quite certain that, just around the corner, cheese awaited."
When I hear the word 'Luggage' I immediately think of Terry Pratchetts Discworld books.
This picture of 'Luggage' was taken at the National Railway Museum in York,.
Any other Terry Pratchett fans out there? Well sadly he passed away last year...or did he? Captured this chap walking through the centre of Nottingham and he looks like he may know his way around the Discworld series.....
No, we do not have a Stone of Scone over here, not even speaking of a Scone of Stone ;-)

"Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong.
No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it. "
― Terry Pratchett.
I love the above quote.

Our copy of Terry Pratchett's Feet of Clay has been read multiple times to the extent that it has a broken spine, loose pages and a battered cover.

If you have not yet read any of them, I suggest starting with either "Guards! Guards!" or "Wyrd Sisters".

I've added a small cross-processing to the colors to get a better dramatic effect.

THERE'S NO JUSTICE. THERE'S JUST ME.
This photo is kind of an homage to one of my favorite Discworld characters, Death. Boneta's got the black cloak, the lifetimer, and the sword (scythes are so fourteenth century!).
Poor Howl, though, eh?

While puzzling what to produce for Macro Mondays String theme, I read a passage from my current book.
Moving Pictures, by Terry Pratchett:
"Victor found himself wedged between Ginger and a mountain troll in what looked like chain mail, but it turned out to be just Holy Wood chain mail, which was inexpertly knitted string painted silver."
Problem solved, a quick raid of my old knitting box to find this string-like cotton yarn, a bit of knitting with large needles, and some painting with silver nail varnish, and I had Holy Wood Chain Mail.
One corner of a 2" square piece of knitting (on old school size 3 needles for those who might be interested).
Archchancellor Ridcully is my favourite Discworld character so here's a larger-scale bust of him. Originally a WIP from autumn 2016.

I first came across this chap when I was taking money out of the Loyds TSB cash point on Saint Goerges road Kemptown and he said "have you got any money for drink and drugs sir?" I told him admired his honesty. "Sid the tramp" is what he calls him self not my words. He currently sleeps on the floor of a friends hall way so is not as homeless as he once was. The kids in the house where he sleeps take photos while he is asleep and have made a web site of the photos, unfortunately I can't find it! But he told me its some thing like sidthetramp.com with a bit of Yahoo in it so I suspect its on Yahoo's web space but i don't know how to find it.
Our Daily Challenge - Book Title. A bit like yesterday, being an avid reader and collector the choice was hugh. Had an idea all day and then when I came to shoot it I changed my mind. This is Thud by Terry Pratchett a comic fantasy story. These pieces are from the game of Thud. www.thudgame.com/node

Second round of the Rogueolympics2024 themed “danger”. After considering many scenes, I decided on the famous Discworld character Rincewind and his chest made of sapient pearwood. There are at least three references to danger in this scene. First, Rincewind hates danger - probably more than anything else. Second, Twoflower leads Rincewind into one dangerous situation after another. And thirdly, the chest itself is pure danger ;)
As I'm sure anyone who likes to read knows, Terry Pratchett passed away this week after an incredibly dignified, touchingly honest and typically irreverent battle with early onset Alzheimer's disease.
I can't remember a time when I wasn't a massive fan of his books, and with the Discworld series he created a world so real, with characters so meticulously detailed, complicated and believeable that ... well ... I could almost believe that they were, in fact, as real as you or me. MORE real even, because you could be anyone, you're on the other end of the internet. You could be a really advanced cat that's learnt to surf the web for instance, or a sharp-minded hamster with an irresitable thirst for knowledge.
The Discworld, and Terry Pratchett, have been a part of my life for more than 20 years and it seems weird to say this of someone I've never met but ... my world feels a little emptier now. It feels a little less joyful. An irreplaceable part of it has been taken away and things will never be quite the same again.
But, to paraphrase Granny Weatherwax, he aten't dead - not really ... not while we still have his words to read and enjoy for the rest of our incredibly lucky lives.
I'll leave you with this little bit of Pratchett wisdom, possibly my favourite TP quote and one that left me crying with laughter for an unhealthy amount of time:
"See a pin and pick it up, and all day long you'll have a pin"
That's deep *.
Strobist info: One SB700 rear centre at full power bounced off the ceiling. Fired by CLS.
* Or is it? This is the beauty of a Pratchettism, you never know if it's deeply philosophical, deeply scathing or deeply silly. Sometimes it's all three.
"No pink, See?" screeched the homunculus."No good you going on pressing the lever when there's no pink, is there? If you wanted pink you shouldn't of took all those pictures of young ladies, should you? It's monochrome from now on, friend. Alright?"
;)
