Watercolor on Paper

Dimensions: 22 x 30 inches (full size watercolor paper)

Arches Watercolor Paper 300#

This is a Terry Madden Watercolor Workshop Workbook Painting. I enlarged the drawing using my Artograph Super Prism. Traced the drawing on tracing paper and then transferred to w/c paper using graphite.

Primary Colors: These colros cannot be created by mixing other colors. Red (Roman Red), Cobalt Blue (Grecian Blue), Permanent Yellow (Sedona Yellow)

Secondary Colors: These colors are created by mixing two of the primary colors. Pthalo Green, Mauve, Warm Orange (Taos Orange)

I'm using Terry Madden Paints and the Terry Madden Color Clock as my guide.

Split Complementery is choosing one color on the color wheel and using each color on each side of its complement (the color directly across the color you chose).

Left: In this chart I chose Cobalt Blue and its complements are Cad. Yellow Deep and Permamnet Red which are the two colors on each side of Warm Orange--the exact complement of Cobalt Blue.

Right: Pthalo Green and its split complements Permanent Red, and Magenta (New Orleans Red-Violet)

Harmonious Colors are any 5 touching colors on the color wheel. In other words pick one color from the color wheel and choose four other colors to the right or left and these give you your five harmonious colors.

Harmonious colors will not create "mud colors" when mixed together. This is one way to choose which colors will look good in your paintings.

These paints are Terry Madden paints and were selected using his color clock.

pros of the old palette--lots of wells for extra paints.

conns of the old palette--didn't care for the 3 divided mixing areas

pros & cons of new--22 mixing wells is nice, but there are 24 suggested colors in the terry madden workbooks. that's ok though i put two similiar colors in the same well in two different wells.

best part--large mixing area!!! oh and it's very light weight yet durable. my mom's had her's for years.

i finally put together my terry madden palette using terry madden's paints.
