Spring has finally arrived and I took in some Vitamin D therapy by way of a walk on the Roza Irrigation District Canal bank late this afternoon. There are many areas where the snow melt runoff has pooled in the canal and in which numerous Mallards have found a protected zone. My movement stirred several to take flight and this one made the "correct" take-off trajectory so that the sunlight struck it directly and lit it up!

I looked out of a window of one of the bedrooms of our home and noticed these two mule deer lounging in the shade of one of our backyard trees. While I've seen evidence of deer around, in the 40+ years of living in this home, this is the first time I've seen them here. They appeared quite relaxed and "at home".

I noticed this pair of Mourning Doves settled comfortably in our Dogwood Tree. As I inched forward, they started to edge for the exit!

My neighbor noticed a couple of Mule Deer bucks trapped in the Roza Irrigation Canal. The canal is lined on three sides with concrete for about a mile and with water-flow control gates on the west end closed, their only exit opportunity was going to be a mile east where the concrete lining on the north side ends. So, endeavoring to initiate a rescue attempt, with him slogging in boots on the slimy, slick concrete canal floor and me on the bank, we were able to herd them out and into the opening to the hillside. There's no telling how long they had been in there, but by the pace they moved, it was evident that they were stressed and exhausted. This is one of a series of five related images.

Jupiter and Saturn seen a couple days after their conjunction. Around Jupiter are the Galilean Moons, Ganymede, Europa, Io and Callisto.

They've moved recently so they have a less desert view now. I may see their new view in the future out of necessity... and that's all I'm going to say for now.
