On our terrace there are some oldfashioned - some might call them retro/vintage - carriage lights and one of them holds a somewhat illegal lightbulb. 100 w uh my gosh! I always argue with my partner, he wants me to throw them away but I hold against it that they still work and I do not want to waste that. One day, when they no longer work, yep - I will exchange them for whatever will be modern and allowed then - but for now, well, just sue me.
Rhyd-y-Car ironworkers cottages originally from Merthyr Tydfil at St Fagans Museum of History nr Cardiff, South Wales.
Not sure whether I've overdone the processing in this shot. Does it look a little artificial? You be the judge.
St Fagans is superb and FREE to enter. Buildings from different historical periods are taken down and re assembled here. Complete with contents in most cases. And very helpful and knowledgeable volunteers to explain the properties history etc. We spent just over half a day there and only saw less than half of it. Workers cottages, school room, farmhouses, shops etc etc. You get the picture. We'll be back.
I really didn't do this, honest! But it's not before time! Some of our local dog walkers have been having a little trouble getting up on cold winter mornings and the poor dogs haven't quite made it to the field. Not the best on a steep pavement.

Terrain is a major factor in agriculture, generally, a flat surface is easier and helps the farm of crops. What if you have no choice? What if you have hills, hills and only hills? Then you have to be creative and forge the terrain to make it usable as farms land.
Indeed, it is exactly what I've tried to represent here, a cultivation of rice on terraces, in microscale. I've always loved terraces like this, it's so beautiful, lushy and green, you gotta love it :)
I am very glad I've been able to build it out of Lego

Rising water from underground percolates through buried limestone dissolving calcium carbonate which are deposited in the surface. These deposits form travertine terraces, the chalky white mineral. The colors are from thermophiles, heat loving organisms.

Yuanyang Rice Terraces, located on the southern slopes of Ailao Mountain in Yuanyang County (part of Honghe Hani Autonomous Prefecture) and located in the south of Yunnan Province has been a masterpiece of the ingenuity of the Hani people for generations. Southern Ailao Mountain, with this typical tiered landscape, is famed for its unique frontier scenery.
The Hani people's ancestors came to this steep mountain area 2,500 years ago. In their struggle against the difficult terrain they successfully established the terraces, where they grew rice in order to make a living. The technology of developing fertile land on rugged mountain slopes didn't spread all over China and Southeast Asia until 14th century. The creativity of the Hani people turned this mountain area into one of artistic beauty. In recognition, the Ming Dynasty emperor granted the title of 'Skillful Sculptor' to Hani people and their good reputation was passed down from generation to generation. At present, known as 'land sculpture' the terraced fields have been being officially acknowledged by UNESCO as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage site.
