Lo que se vé desde mi terraza..o mejor dicho, la idea irreal de lo que me parece ver desde mi terraza. Siempre Barcelona.

The ancestors of the people of Longsheng started building these terrace rice farm 800 years ago, when China was in Yuan Dynasty. Now these massive and spetacular fields not only provide food for the local people, but also become a tourist attraction.

Edited Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter image of a terraced crater on Mars. Terraced craters can be formed when there are layers of material with different strengths where the asteroid strikes a planet.

The western end of Terrace Road, probably from the rear window of a house in Upper Terrace Road. It shows numbers 26 and 24 with the wall-trained shrub on the left. To the right are 22, 20, and 18, and the dark chimney breast of the Fox Inn (16 off right). In the middle distance are the tops of buildings in Commercial Road: the turret of W Mate & Sons, printers of Bournemouth Visitors' Directory (with "Directory Office" on the roof) at number 62; W H Okey (later Bealesons) and the Prince of Wales Hotel (showing Eldridge Pope on the gable end); and the dark steep gables of Tower Buildings (in the centre), on the corner of Orchard Street, occupied by Daniel Drake, cabinet maker and shopfitter. Richmond Hill is visible on the right.

Uncredited postcard very much in the style of George Whitfield Cosser (1876-1918), photographer, of Southampton.

"Did not get out of shop till 8:50 so could not possibly get down, so sorry. Hope to see you tonight, 9 o/c. Love Neam." sent to Miss L Vaughan, c/o J Beale, Esq., Fancy Fair, B'mouth, with a kiss stamp, postmarked Boscombe, Bournemouth, 1905.

A view of the Great Terrace which Peto created at Iford Manor. It was originally paved with York stone but is now gravel. The present owners hope to replace the York stone in due course.

When Peto first bought the garden, there were some Italian cypresses already in place. He also imported some cypress trees from France, but only one now remains.

If you choose the largest version of this photograph, you can just see, on the extreme left, what Peto called a 'fine 17th Century Italian marble figure of a Philosopher'. Opposite it is a 'marble bust, French, Louis XIV.'

Just rearranged the shelves on the terrace.

I spent half an hour or so digging stuff out of the 'bits box' to make up a diorama based around the new terraced houses kit.

Some grass sheet, a few bits of card wall, fence and some figures soon did the job.

Still on Victoria Terrace, looking along past the restaurants and bar at the far end, nice spot to stop for refreshments and have a nice view down into the street way below and as you can see the top levels of the buildings there come up to just about the height of the terrace - odd feeling to be on what feels like ground level to you, by the doors of the buildings next to you but realising the ones across the way are several stories lower down because of the steep slopes of the volcanic ridge the Old Town straddles. All of which makes Edinburgh perhaps more tiring to walk around than many other, flatter towns, but far, far more interesting and picturesque (personally I would be bored living in a relatively flat city!)

Andros is full of strip terraces, much tighter and leaner than the terraces on Naxos or Paros - the hills are steeper.

Some of the beautiful terraces in Longshen, Guilin in China. We passed by countless terraces during a long 6 hour hike to the hostel that we stayed for the night.

Mambos terrace - Magaluf

For all the attention paid to the awesome construction of the city itself, not enough credit is given to the amount of work it took just to insure Machu Picchu didn't instantly slide off of its precarious perch. This system of terraces serve as reinforcement, holding the bulk of the city thousands of feet above the valley floor. Dramatically they appear to suddenly end, the depths leaving the viewer unsupported high above the steep Andean cliffs.

Castle Wynd led from what is now Johnstone Terrace down to the Grassmarket, and part of the first wall known to be built to protect the city - the King’s Wall of around 1450, began around half-way down the castle bank, which at the time dropped steeply and without interruption to the valley which was to become the Grassmarket. Some remains of this wall can be seen beside the middle portion of Castle Wynd, and also in the region of Tweeddale Court at 14 High Street. Johnstone Terrace itself was built in 1828 and had living quarters for the Castle garrison built in 1873 on the South side.

Terraces are soil conservation structures that are installed to control erosion. By breaking the length of a slope, a terrace slows the rate water moves down hill and thus reduces the erosive force.
