I didn't get to take many shots here so this is one of the only photos I was happy enough with. Quite slippery here!!
I was constantly amazed at the structure of these terraces. They must be in a constant state of change as water levels change in different areas.
This 1/76 scale Victorian terrace is built from one and a half Kingsway Models TERD card kits. The model is half relief (it has no back). The front gardens are modelled with walls, railings , tiled pathways, flowers and dustbins, and the street paving is included.
The model is approximately 18" wide by 6" deep , with one end angled.
Cloudy days always seem to provide me the best time to practice daytime long exposure; the even light and soft feeling seem to suit it well. I ended up at the Monona Terrace and decided to shoot the capitol building from 'within' the fountain near the top of terrace. The fountain was not spraying water as high as it usually does but it seemed to aid this shot.

From Berenty Reserve we took a three hour bus ride to Peyrieras. During the ride, we would stop and photograph views from the road. This image shows the rice paddy system of agricuture. These fields can be seen from high above in the aerial view seen in the first comment section.
Agriculture employs the majority of Madagascar's population. Mainly involving smallholders, agriculture has seen different levels of state organisation, shifting from state control to a liberalized sector.
Rice is the main produce and main export crop of Madagascar. It is mainly planted in a terraced paddy system in the central highlands. Other major subsistence crops include cassava, corn, and sweet potato, while coffee, cloves, vanilla and other cash crops are exported.
Among livestock, zebu account for most of the cattle, while pigs, sheep and poultry are also raised. Fishing is popular, and aquaculture has grown in importance.
Madagascar has seen high rates of deforestation, and the illegal extraction of highly valued timber species such as mahogany, ebony, and rosewood threatens native stands. The traditional slash-and-burn agriculture (tavy) together with population growth put increasing pressure on the native and very diverse flora of Madagascar.
Agriculture in Madagascar is heavily influenced by the island's rainfall, which is generally abundant on the whole East coast, decreases sharply on the highlands, and falls to less than 500 mm per year in the South and South-West. The main growing season starts with the first rains in October – November. The cropping calendar greatly varies from region to region, according to the very different climatic conditions, soils and altitude.

Just across Willes Road from Royal Terrace are a fine pair of Victorian houses. There was also a very lowering sky that afternoon...
Gutted that I didn't get the chimney in the centre directly behind the lampost...Tsk!

This is one of the more elegant terraces, most if not all the houses having retained their substantial chimney stacks.
