Since moving into my house 5 years ago, there has been one tree in my backyard that has constantly surprised me with its tenacity. If you look at the trunk of the tree you would think that there could be no possible way that this tree is alive, yet every year for the past five years, when spring comes, the tree buds and leaves grow.

Greyfriar's Bobby is a great symbol of loyalty and tenacity. The legendary loyalty of Bobby returning to be graveside with his master is a tale of timeless tenacity telling us all that we have emotional and spiritual bonds and we have ways to express them even after death. No discouragement could stop Bobby from finding his was to spend time in the graveyard even though others thought it unseemly to have a dog in the kirkyard. To one view the hallows of sacred ground should be open to all creatures and plants, to another view certain animals and plants are to denied any time and space with the boundaries of the kirk. Bobby's legend can bring many questions to mind and his loyal determination can bring us all some excellent answers.
