Hectic week at work, people getting sick, economy is still down, doing more with less. Smiley is keeping her pretty head above... Well, you get the symbolism.

Black Hand Gorge is a narrow passage through which the Licking River flows. On the north side of the gorge is an abandoned interurban tunnel. The gorge was named after the Black Hand, a prehistoric drawing of a black hand painted on the walls of the gorge. The hand had its fingers spread, and part of a wrist was drawn. Supposedly one elongated finger pointed towards a nearby Indian Mound. It is thought that the symbol meant that all tribes passing through the gorge on their way to the flint pits a few miles south must pass through in peace. The drawing, which was just one of several, was destroyed in 1828 during the construction of the Ohio and Erie Canal.

"I am inclined to think that the last utterance will formulate, strange as it may appear, some hope to us now utterly inconceivable. For mankind is delightful in its pride, its assurance, and its indomitable tenacity. It will sleep on the battlefield among its own dead...[T]he life-history of the earth must in the last instance be a history of a really relentless warfare. Neither his fellows, nor his gods, nor his passions will leave a man alone." ~ Joseph Conrad, Notes on Life and Letters

再難過終會有過去的一天

This is the same tree as yesterdays shot, just from a different angle.

Some guys should make a poster out of this thing

Caught this young lady trying to depart with the string from our verandah blind this morning. She is obviously collecting nesting materials and didn't realise this was attached at the other end.

We watched her for ages, gathering lengths of the string in her beak and trying to fly off with it, only to crash to the ground again. Can't count the number of times she did this. Talk about tenacity !

Eventually, she flew off, so I quickly nipped out, hid THAT string and replaced it with short lengths of other more appropriate garden string.

Apologies for the poor quality of these piccs, but I took them through our kitchen door window. Difficult to focus.

Never stop believing.

After leaving its berth at the ABT Terminal at the Leopold Dock, the 2016 built vessel is seen here lining up to enter the Berendrecht lock as it heads out to sea and onwards to the German port of Brünsbuttel.

I love this tree and the way it hugs the rock :o)

I am always amazed at these sweet, little weeds that grow out of the concrete. It's probably not *that* amazing, but it still makes me think about perseverance.

About sticking with something, despite obstacles. Forging ahead. Whether it be a marriage, or a dream or something you'd rather not be doing - but have to do. Everything has it's hard times, but sticking with it and looking back later and being really, really glad you did is a great feeling.
